  1. Hi Mark, as I said earlier, after the LaBeat review I did I was again asked by Dave to review the Falcons release. Gladly accepted and was given a copy at Lifeline, hopefully the review will be done very soon.
  2. discussed previously HERE
  3. I'm in the process of doing a review of the cd for Soul Junction. It features the period in the Falcons history that featured Sonny Munro: the Lupine & Big Wheel recordings plus some Sonny Munro solo outings and some unissued stuff from the Falcons and Sonny Munro.
  4. Win, it's not just this topic. he's let his mouth run free when he's admitted (eventually) he doesn't know what he's talking about with regards to records and venues. Not only did he say to Jock that he'd forgotten more than Jock will ever know he also insulted him, he also spouted off at other members, does he expect them to sit back and take it? Beeks should like Pete say learn what he can say and to who before letting his mouth run free. He's told us all how it should be done when he doesn't have much of a clue how it's being done in the first place?
  5. exactly, he's trying to change a scene he seems to know little about venue wise. And insulting people who have, to quote Beeker himself... "forgotten more than he'll ever know" is just not how to go about blowing away some cobwebs as he also says.
  6. No one knows your pedigree though, thats what Mak is getting at I think. You claim to have vast knowledge, 30,000 records yet don't know Ruby Andrews? C'mon even those with no knowledge of records knows Ruby Andrews yet you with your vast knowledge didn't. Some things just don't add up with you and thats what's making some of us sit back and wonder, some out loud. You "young 'uns" as you call yourselves crave respect on this scene, that has to be earned, you have to start by showing a bit of respect too
  7. Beeks has caused most of the trouble no offence like
  8. does someone force those who find topics (not just this topic but any so called boring topic) to read them? NO!! If you find them so boring go and read or do something else.
  9. like you say Pete each to their own, I'd just sooner use the money towards records I can afford and play the ones I can't afford off cd. Trouble is after twelve weeks on the club (sick) with my elbow I can't afford any
  10. it should be in refosoul Grant, I've posted it in past. Quality not great so if anyone can do a decent quality mp3 would be much appreciated.
  11. I'm with you, for home personal use I'd sooner just use cd's or mp3's (pc goes through stereo). Carvers I use for unissued stuff for DJing only.

  13. cheers pal
  14. Had a mate, many from Chesterfield area will remember Sammy, he lost his leg but he still gave it some on the floor.
  15. The "foreign" DJ's if thats the right word don't by and large play anything we don't already know from many playlists I've seen, but it's their approach to it all that is refreshing, all genres in a night and they will get up and dance, even if they have never heard it before. They are willing to give any record a try and will not dismiss it cause it was played here or there or made after the 60's. PS... anyone got an mp3 of the Sammy Campbell - I Never Thought - Queen City
  16. ta mate, arm ok, start strenghtening work at physio next week, back to work soon I hope.
  17. I do have that one myself...just too lazy to look it's actually the flip I'm after but thought I'd ask for both.
  18. Regents - Whatcha Gonna Do & the flip I Tried For You - Mad PM me if possible please.
  19. I like a drink with the best of 'em Dave but IMHO nighters were a better place before all night drinking at them came into being. It was better with the drugs and soft drinks than it is now with alcohol. Most of the problem has been from locals after a late drink causing friction with soulies but there's also been more incidents amongst soulies in recent years than in previous years. Not saying they weren't there before but problems were probably kept away from venues but alcohol brings out the worst in people. It's ridiculous trying compare the affects of amphet after a nighter and alcohol during a nighter, what about all those over the limit on alcohol after a nighter driving home, alcohol is far worse than the amphet. Why not compare the effects of amphet during a nighter against the effects of alcohol during a nighter, I know which would come out worse....(not condoning drugs btw ) If you want all-night drinking then enforce a membership and keep out the local idiots looking for a late drink with no interest in the music, that would be a start.....or are all-night promoters more interested in making money? Most would sooner pocket say £70 from seven local idiots and sort any trouble after it's happened rather than keep them out and have a trouble free night for the people that really matter.
  20. I hope it's ok too
  21. you can always get another cat
  22. when you post Leave Us Alone can you post the flip too please. Many thanks
  23. danceable soul, hit the nail on the head Paul, I play more than a few mid-tempo numbers in my sets but they are dancers. Stompers and uptempo all night gives me a headache!!!! I said don't wanna hear plodders and lounge music some venues resort too, many so called crossover isn't danceable. What the point of playing records you can't dance too? It's not about the people sat around the venues edges, it's all about the dancers.
  24. sent you them all bar Harder They Fall. I used to have this on a 45 so it will be on a tape or cd somewhere which I can find later if I get the chance...sure someone will save me the trouble looking though
  25. it's all about introducing or reintroducing records to the scene that have long been forgotten or rarely played. There's 100's that had maybe three plays before getting dropped from playlists of DJ's, there's loads from different era's that different generations have missed out on, Stafford/80's plays for the Wigan generation who returned mid 90's on, Torch/Wigan etc records the 80's crowd missed out on, the records are there, some great cheap stuff thats never been played because... well it's cheap and it's not good street cred top play a cheap record is it but like I said some just too lazy to look and want ready made floor fillers everyone else plays rather than look for records that no one else is bothering with, trend followers rather than trend setters, or as others call 'em....Sheep I agree once it's had exposure it's no longer forgotten, can still be underplayed as it may only get aired every two months, but the DJ's continue to seek out records that are underplayed and so rotate your play box.
