  1. crossover/modern played in a tent cause they didn't have a proper room innit
  2. Richard Marks on Tuska and Shout (although not as rare). Chuck Cockerham, & Richard Caiton.
  3. I'd probably agree with JM's description of crossover but maybe stretch to the mid 70's. Records that aren't quite northern and not quite modern (as was). These days owt seems to go.
  4. thats cause it's rock and roll over priced IMO as there are plenty of copies around I would have said a while back £250 ABC and maybe a ton or so extra for Home Of The Blues but £250 now over priced IMO, regularly up for sale via lists, auction or in boxes at venues.

  6. Berry Gordy got fab collection
  7. Phil Spector must have an amazing back catalogue with loads of unissued cuts. Theres at least ten he did with Kell Osbourne that never saw the light of day.
  8. even wth the three up for sale it's still very rare.
  9. Most of the copies I saw of Soft Walking had a sleeve years ago, infact saw fewere without. promotion for shoes if I remember rightly. But as already mentioned sleeves get damaged and lost over time so would say with the sleeve rarer in most cases.
  10. I've Gilly's version here and sure it's slightly slower
  11. I know you was
  12. first glance Pete, without even looking close I'd say here we go again

I like to think that along with the likes of yourself I'm included in your description but I just consider myself a lover of soul music... I like it anyway

Not me mate, I think we are a actually agreeing for once But I personally don't like then term "connoisseur" (noun an expert judge in matters of taste). Its a term, which without intending to do so, sets certain people apart from others, or should I say other people may view so called connoisseurs differently from others when in fact they are no different from anyone else on the scene.

Your probably right with regards to todays scene Ged. The returnees who left a Northern Scene at say the end of Wigan or earlier returned to find a "Rare" scene dominated by finds and plays from the Stafford and 80's Rare Soul Scene but they wanted what they left behind causing this confusion between rare and northern. Think it was Derek who mentioned that the term Rare was adopted to get away from the oldies culture and to distinguish the oldies from the 80's newies scene. Nowadays it could be interpreted as just a promoting ploy of some promoters to maybe sound a little different? give their venue that extra edge?
  18. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Rare Soul is Northern Soul, used in the 80's as already said to get away from "Northern" tag. In the scheme of things most of the records on the scene are rare in comparison to other scenes.

never mind all those, there's nothing much better than soul source's own sound section... if it ain't in there ask and no doubt it will be posted
  20. whats the title of the Contessa, can never remember can remember the label though, I think, Lazbar or Lazbo. For another thread elsewhere, it's a one of as well isn't it? Tim sold it on his list about 8 years ago for about £400, who has it now?
  21. If I found a Margaret Little it would be on e-bay in no time, for one it's getting plenty of exposure, it may be great Northern but it ain't a great record, far better ten/twenty quidders out there (IMHO)
  22. to be fair to Tim he was right at the time, i known copy or whatever figure he quoted at the time. The Clara Hardy just goes to prove you don't know exactly what is ouit theree or when it will turn up. It can be said that Margaret Little is good example of a record that goes big, one turns up, fetches big money then another suddenly appears...not bad for an unknown record few years ago.
  23. I would say not too many. Going by the daft prices these days most of the top dollar mega rarities would be offered for sale. What would you do if you had just seen a record go for £10000 that you paid cents or a few dollars for?
  24. (take the Mello Souls for an example). thats why we say "3 known copies" and not "3 copies" because 3 are all that is known about. No one knows how many are out there but it is safe to say that not all records were presed in ntheir 100's. Many only handful pressed at corner shop recording studios where they paid there $25 etc to have a disc cut. Many only enough cuts done for the group members maybe a few extra for local promotion around local radio stations.
