Pretty fair to say yes Steve, bit like RCA.
  3. Who is DJing does have some bearing on where I go. They don't have to be "names" many good collectors out there who have the balls to try and play something different and thats what I always look for, something different.

Cheers Brett, will take you up on that offer one day. Can't refuse a full English
  7. I prefer the other side You Can't Lose Something You Never Had Supposed to be Chubby Checker but I've got my doubts, sounds more like Jimmy Radcliffe. If your readiing Ady, I know you said you was going to ask? Did you get anywhere?

When I was collecting seriously I used to ask Andy for any recommendations fro4m his sales now and then, was never disappointed. He is very fair too. I will make a point of getting to Vault Of Soul sometime in the next year mate

Not having a dig Mark, just wondering why some use it and then all the play is oldies, 60's or 70's. Many venues in the 80's featured 60's alongside current releases, Andy Whitmore for one DJed at many venues and he played truly across the board, as did Cliff Steel, Andy Tats Taylor, Rod Dearlove, many more too....hardly hear any DJ's like these nowadays or many venues with the same "across the board" policy. One of the best articles I've read in ages is in the latest N-Soul, Brian Gouchers Thorne article, really does capture the palce and tells the story of what a true across the board venue is.

Whats that supposed to mean? At venues I've been to the majority use it as an excuse to play played out 70's Northern, Drizabone, Angie Stone etc and not one decent crossover record or modern sound Not many venues that you can call truly across the board is there in the way that say venues such as Thorne used to be. The Orwell looks like one but not ben yet. Any others?

Flip the Chilites, Pretty Girl is just so much better IMO...used to spin that side in the 80's.
  18. I'll let you ask Andy :Fck_off_by_nulltarget:
  19. Yes we've seen you dressed up
  20. I've tapes in the cupboard from the 80's of Cliff's, they have all todays big crossover stuff on them. He's always been ahead of most IMO when collecting. He's been getting rave reviews at Lifeline with many coming up and complimenting his sets.
  21. Probably a very good reason Dave.

Mark Ellis picked up a CD of Candi's stuff which we listened to on the way to Scotland...or was it on the way back. Some great soul on it. Think he said it was in bargin bin at HMV??? Might have a look tomorrowe see if I can get one. Wish I'd still got my copy of NYGTUH......sold for a lot less than the £700 or so beinig asked these days
  23. Most have sets of big name bankers, pretty safe records that will fill the floor. Nothing too controversial, keeps the promoter happy, most punters go home happy but IMHO it does nothing to progress the scene or freshen it up. The scene musically IMO is stale and getting just like the rock and roll scene. Most venues pretty much the same musically and not many willing to take a chance on people like Cliff Steele. Have known Cliff as long as I've been into the scene and doing nighters and he's always had great taste.

  25. There are hardly any DJ's with there own identity these days, mall either playing big money records that are just indemand or the same as each other. None of them I would go out of my way to hear. Only twe or three I would travel for who are turning up new 60's with any frequency and only a handful of others who try and play something different.
