  1. Must be our taste in music When we ask about a track if no one from the Fylde answers we don't get any info there must be a reason for this
  2. I guess its safe to play it in the Neighbourhood's rare room on Sat then Not as good as the Johnny Barnes no one could help me with tho
  3. Andy, If this is the one I'm thinking of I think it was covered as the Incredibles?? many years ago. Gaz Kellet certainly had a copy and played it out. Fine tune
  4. Can anyone give me any info on Misty Douglas 'I Don't Wan't to Cry' on ANSAP? Can't find any mention of it in the price guides Anything else by the artist?
  5. Steve, It should get more plays and I think Roly even put it out on a Neighbourhood CD long before Ian started to rave about it. Maybe you should dust it off for Sat night .
  6. Just imagining Johnny Gamels Parents thinking we must make sure when we concieve - that our baby's 40th birthday doesn't fall the same weekend as the 100 club. Now that would be fantastic planning
  7. I wasn't dissing John just saying he's running a business a sucessful one too judging by the size of his house
  8. ChrissieO, I would hope that even those that haven't met you, don't know you, and don't agree with you still welcome your input and indeed make you feel welcome on this forum. I think most people on here are genuine and have a love of the music. I may be one of those people you think is up his own arse I may not be but I wouldn't presume to tell you what you are thinking and if I may say I think your extrapolation of Stevie's views from his few comments on this post are a little wide of the mark in my view. I think the most interesting part of your post was your explanation of the QOF signiture. Not that it was needed as I for one saw it for what it was, but that you thought you needed to explain or justify it. Almost as if you felt that having 'queen of fools' in your signiture defined you as a person. We all tend to disagree on particular sounds even when we broadly agree on the particular sub genre thats the scene we are on, hasn't it always been that way? I hope that you do not take this reply as a personal dig at you it isn't. But then I don't think Stevie's post was either. Having QOF in your signiture doesn't define you nor does Stevie's few ill chosen words define him, well not to me at least Keep contributing your views are always passionate and thats good
  9. It appears at the moment I only open my mouth to change feet . The post wasn't a dig at anyone and if it appeared that way I apologise for that. The point is still valid though, in any area why do all the best nights (I accept that my definition of 'Best' may differ from many) seem to be on the same night . I'll keep my frustrations to myself in future.
  10. Warren, I usually track via the parcel force website. The customs slip that the seller attaches to the package has a customs number on it eg CP734308466us if you put that in the box and check the inbound parcel box you should get an update. 'Advised' means that they know about the parcel but it isn't in the country yet. If it is coming surface it can take up to 7 weeks  Are you positive it was sent
  11. What a romantic view of the world I'd LIKE to think that too
  12. I'll be in London tommorow and often on my journey back, if I get away in time, I'll call in at a local night in the midlands. Mostly when this happens there is nothing to my liking so I trundle up the M6 to the staffs area, Mace always has something on . So why with so many free weeks do I see the Station at Dudley (great venue / music policy BTW) and a new venue Studio one (Don't know the venue but the line up is strong) plus one in Kinver just down the road (I have an ex colleague that lives 100yrds away) all on the same night. This gives me a problem and I don't even live in the Midlands so at the risk of being controversial when starting a new night would it be too radical to pick a different week? I don't expect promoters to plan their nights around my various trips up and down the UK but avoiding established nights should be simple or am I missing something
  13. There are many examples of 4 types of lables particularly with east / west coast pressing plants being used and using different lables and distiguishing issues and demos. What to me is funny is something like the Superlatives ISLY with Yellow and Blue version of the same lable but identical in all other respects (except price of course).
  14. I think it is. is outing on Downey gives Barry White the writting credits if I remember rightly
  15. Stomper again I think you are partly right. This whole thread is about knocking things that did fill dancefloors at one time. I too see a distinction between Northern and rare soul, which is why I seperated the two in my post. Whoever was the first to spin the Futures in a Northern room didn't know what dancefloor reaction it would get, a feeling I am all too familiar with BTW. I question the choice of this as an appropriate sound for a Northern room even before a reaction, good, bad or indifferent, from dancers can be gauged. They obviously had the courage of their convictions, I just wonder how many other cases they need to have taken into consideration
  16. Danny you're right up to a point. I would say that where the line is drawn is a matter of opinion. Hence the differences of opinion about some of the suggestions on here about what should and shouldn't have ever got a play. My point is that if the scene is gonna have some integrity (no Aretha Frankilin pun intended) then the fact that people dance to it a record cannot be the sole arbiter of whether or not it belongs on the Northern or rare soul scene.
  17. Who are you and what have you done with the real Mr Smith
  18. I also have been against the playing of the futures from day one and am not jumping on any band wagon. I don't begrudge anyone enjoying a record either once a month or twice a week. I don't begrudge my neighbour enjoying Motorhead's 'The Ace of Spades' either. Just because some people like it doesn't make it Northern. As previously discussed myself and Pete Smith share a love of Bowie's music (only his early stuff in my case) but I would not dream of playing 'I Dig Everything' though I'm sure I would not be the only person in the room that liked it and it is rare but it aint Northern and it aint soul. Just like the Futures! The litmus test to distinguish soul from disco is add in some of those electronic 'poo poos' ala meco and if they fit in with the track it's disco IMVHO.
  19. I think there are so many brilliant records that could never make a come back. Most of them because they have never gone away. Sometimes, no strike that - all the time I wish some of them would disapear for 5 or so years then perhaps they would elicit the special responce that I get when I hear some fantastic tune I'd nearly forgotten
  20. the futures absolutely couldn't agree more no place in a northern room or a rare soul room for that matter. Its disco not that bad as disco but not northern and not rare soul.
  21. I may have suffered from a chemically induced memory schism on the white plains but wigan 78ish I think. Someone will know - about same time as pet clark I think. I though babe ruth was released post midnight 31st dec 1969?
  22. Elusive - Babe Ruth My Baby Loves love - White Plains Sign of the Times - Petula Clark How did they get played in the first place
  23. Ged Parker replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
No contest YDWMN would win hands down in my book especially if they were all new discoveries. It just suffers from being played to often
