Damn Sam
As regards the dating of the Damn Sam LP, I had a hunch it might be useful to compare the release number of that LP with the release number of the Clarence Reid LP which is TST 3333 https://www.popsike.c...0117268585.html of recordings by Clarence when he was with Tayster and released by Jack Taylor as an obvious attempt to cash in on Clarence's pop chart smash Nobody But You Babe which hit the charts in 1969. The Damn Sam LP release number was TS 0001 https://www.popsike.c...0358675865.html so draw your own conclusions, if indeed any can be drawn.

Jackie Wilson
And don't forget the holy grail of Jackie Wilson's soul releases, the legendary Aussie EP with "Open The Door To Your Heart" https://www.popsike.com/HOW-TO-BE-HAPPY-EP-JACKIE-WILSON-CORAL-68-NORTHERN-SOUL/190376163100.html

Think Chuck Jackson's "What's With This Loneliness" also got a Stardust release didn't it ?
-
Sonny Charles - Half As Much 45
A nice dancer indeed, as with his other solo release on A & M, a great finger snapping cover of Chairmen of the Board's "Bless You".

Question For Ian Dewhirst
Ian, will that lot incude the Neptune master tapes ??? Can we expect one day to hear an unreleased follow up to the Vibrations "Surprise Party For Baby"? Or more O'Jays unreleased uptempo finger snappers in the vein of "Looky Looky" or "Deeper In Love"? Always wondered what course the Gamble & Huff story would have taken if their Neptune deal with Chess hadn't collapsed .....

Joann And Troy
I'll wholeheartedly second Tony on that and also mention that "Who Do You Love"/"I Found A Love, Oh What A Love" even got an Australian release on a beautiful white and green Atlantic demo !!!
-
Blair- Night Life
Hardest format of the lot must be the 7". Yes, "Night Life" had a 7" inch release. So when the Northern Scene moves from "funky northern" to "boogie northern" this is one everybody will be chasing .....

Jimmy Mack
So who is the Jimmy Mack who released a rather nifty version of The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game as Jimmy Mack & The Music Factory on Atlantic Records 45 45-2552.

Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
Has Ernie and The Top Notes' "Dap Walk" ever been played out at a northern night ? A tune that's basically one part Archie Bell and the Drells "Tighten Up", one part Frankie Crocker's "Ton of Dynamite, and one part James Brown ...(relatively) uptempo and an established rarity.

Clyde Mcphatter - Welcome Home Uk Lp

I'm Impressed
- Joy Lovejoy In Orbit Checker Wanted
After all that conjecture from previous discussion on here over recent years, have we worked out yet who the hell "Joy Lovejoy" really was ???- Don Covay - Bad Mouthing - Mercury
Yep, that seller has a sound clip https://cgi.ebay.com/DON-COVAY-BAD-MOUTHING-c-w-SOMEBODYS-BEEN-LISTEN-/290525351517?pt=UK_Records&hash=item43a4a90e5d- Don Covay - Bad Mouthing - Mercury
I've run this one past a number of people who were on the scene back in the 70's and it drew blanks, although most mentioned Don's " It's Better To Have ... " on Mercury as being quite popular and that one was really his only play from his Mercury output. Was "Bad Mouthing" played at all on the scene in the 70's ? Also curious if "Bad Mouthing" is a UK only 45 (which I have) , can anyone confirm that there was also a US release on 7" ( it's from his excellent Super Dude LP) ? Been playing "Bad Mouthing" recently and it's packed the floor ... everytime !!! Anyone else playing this ? Cheers- Wanted Joe Tex Old Time Lover Dial
Mark, I take it you want the Dial 45 but as you also are into LPs you might consider getting the Joe Tex Greatest Hits LP released on London in '65 ... and the LP has the added bonus of including "I Want To Be Free", not to mention the fact that all the 45's of both Old Time Lover and I Want To Be Free that I've had through my hands over the years have been made of nasty styrene ...- Songwriters Bobby Flax And Lanny Lambert
Yep Ian , they were very creditable pop music writers who also occasionally wrote some nice soul influenced tunes. Think you may have overlooked a minor, insignificant northern soul record they wrote called "Turning My Heartbeat Up" by the MVPs !!! LOL Another of their better "northern" tunes was a thing on Vanguard by a group called Spare Change "Alive and Well". I believe it got some Northern scene spins , can anyone confirm ?- Billy Preston - Agent Double O Soul
Amazingly, there are two US TV clips from 1965 of Billy performing Edwin Starr's classic, one on Shindig and the other in brilliant colour on a Ray Charles TV special. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM9FOhe-QJE&feature=related Question is , I had a VJ record label specialist collector from the US tell me recently that there exist VJ issued acetates of this as VJ were intending to release Billy's version on the West Coast but decided against it ... Anyone have, or know of, such acetates ???- Barbara Lewis - The Stars
Originally LP only of course, but has this surfaced on a 7' at any time since, legitimately that is ? - Joy Lovejoy In Orbit Checker Wanted
