  1. Chalky, I quite agree - there's so much emphasis on "original vinyl only" that I think people get far too bogged down with price tags and pointless "rules" ("is it okay to play this, can we do that?"). Taking the OVO and flipping it around a bit, I'd prefer to hear ORIGINAL vinyl - as in, something new, something with imagination, something unusual, something unique - rather than "original" vinyl - i.e. a 50 year old bit of plastic. I played September Jones "Voodoo Madamoiselle" at my club last night, early doors, and it was the first record to get people up on the floor. If it's a club filled with young folk looking to hear great music, they'd rather hear a Kent 45 than some clapped out £1,000 northern oldie. Mind you, Melba Moore's "The Magic Touch" is pretty much an oldie anyway - it was released nearly 30 years ago...
  2. Is it Italian? I presume it's legit, since it has an instrumental on the flip - so must have come from the tapes?
  3. Looking for Bettye Swann "When The Game Is Played On You" (Atlantic), if anyone can help. Prefer US copy, but suspect Jamaican might be slightly more attainable... Any PMs gratefully received. Ta!
  4. Some sellers state they won't ship international and block bidders from outside the US. If it's any consolation, I don't think you would have been pleasantly surprised by the sellers VG, sounds pretty cruddy to me: VG VERY GOOD A USED, REASONABLE COPY. THERE COULD BE A DRILL HOLE IN THE LABEL , WRITING ON THE LABEL OR SOME WARP, CHIPS ON OUTER EDGE. THERE WILL BE OBVIOUS SIGNS OF WEAR AND THE POSSIBILITY OF SURFACE NOISE BETWEEN TRACKS OR DURING QUIET PASSAGES. / COVERS OR PICTURE SLEEVES WILL HAVE WEAR ON EDGES AND CORNERS AND WILL HAVE SPLIT SEAMS PLUS A DRILL HOLE AND OR WRITING ON COVER
  5. I've had money refunded by Discogs from dodgy sellers. But have to say, I never bother with the status thing when selling stuff, I can't be bothered changing it and just send stuff as soon as I get payment. Maybe the guy's on holiday or something? Is his feedback dodgy?
  6. Still looking, if anyone can help!
  7. Reluctant sale? Reluctant read...
  8. I'm sure if you search for LeCam or Charay you'll find a thread about Major Bill Smith's various labels and his penchant for recycling before it was even fashionable... Loads of his singles came out under different names, with different flipsides, with the same name but different tracks etc etc. Chocolate Sugar came out under various names, various groups (Six Feet Under) vocal versions, even came out in the UK on Crystal.
  9. Judging by how many people try on the "buyer pays paypal 4% fee" I'm sure plenty would just try and add any proposed sales surcharge onto the cost of the records. Thereby making over-priced un-sellables even MORE over-priced and even MORE un-sellable. I don't really have a problem with the current system. You see a record, you either like the price or you don't...
  10. Did a batch of these not turn up a few years back, direct from the artist?
  11. FOR SALE The Elgins "Darling Baby" (UK Tamla Motown STML 11081) ex/ex £40 inc. p&p One of the rarer UK Motown albums, great stereo copy. Paypal prefered, PM if interested...
  12. Maybe "The PMT spiked no nonsense vocal of Vivian Lee..." put some bidders off?
  13. First heard this on a Kent CD about 20 years ago and loved it immediately. Reminded me of "Liar Liar" by The Castaways. Being before the days of price guides and the internet, I phoned Mr Manship to enquire about the record's attainability - and was immediately worried by the sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line. Sometimes things I asked about might be a ten or twenty quid. But not in this case. It WAS on Richard Domar's list for £500 for a while, an amount of money I couldn't even conceive of spending on a record. In hindsight, was probably a bargain...

Do most records not have unplayed labels?

Might have been helpful if you'd just separated them into ORIGINALS and RE-ISSUES. e.g. Turnin my heartbeat up/Everyman for herself - MVPs - Buddah - 469 -£40 So you've got to google this to find it's a UK 1978 issue and not a US press?
  16. And the Buffalo release is the original UK 60s release. Small label which had one other release, Justin mis-credited as Justine. https://www.45cat.com/label/buffalo
  17. Wish someone WOULD rocket it...
  18. I know a collector who admitted that for years he had this record, and in his head he'd been calling it "Agent Oooh Soul" instead of "Agent Double Oh Soul". Whilst finding this mildly amusing, in the context of this thread, it is positively side-splitting...
  19. If you're referring to me, I was merely having a laugh - and making a point half in jest, whole in earnest. While nobody can knock the sheer amount of work Ian Levine put into his Strange World Of Northern Soul, personally I found it pretty hard going on the eyes and ears. But he's way beyond the point of caring what anyone thinks... I was in no way implying that your project would be anything other than quality, like all the Harmless product I've seen. I look forward to seeing it when it's finished. If you weren't referring to me, then there's no point in me claiming that I do occasionally create things, in the graphic design field... and you can disregard this whole post!

  21. Have you thought about re-recording all the backing tracks with 80s synths and crappy drum samples?
  22. I don't really agree that you should expect to pay up to 50% more if you're buying from a dealer. A record is worth what the market dictates, it's not really the buyer's fault that that's how someone chooses to make their living. It's not like most of them have physical shops, either - and overheads like photocopying lists and buying stamps for mailing lists are all but over. If a record is worth £50 and a dealer wants to charge £75, good luck to them. With ebay I'd say it's more likely the buyer who determines the final price...
  23. Presume you saw (and missed?!) the copy on ebay? Was quite surprised how high it went, but then... when do you ever see it offered for sale? Good luck, took me a while to find one.
