  1. Surprised this not been mentioned yet - where I came in I think
  2. Great stuff, didn't know that one - top class. Had seen that LP before but forgotten about it
  3. What's your top LB tune if you had to pick one?
  4. Me too, what a voice - here's the audio
  5. Tip of a very large iceberg Pete
  6. Hardly a week goes by without I come across another outstanding Leroy Burgess track - total genius or what? Here's a couple of recent discoveries, uncredited vocal on this unreleased Chez Damier mix, and superb 70's Sympho State 'You know what I like'. Discuss people
  7. Love this - remember it well as a big late 80's sound but was it played before that? Stafford?
  8. Not that I was there but late Wigan biggie wasn't it? I just bought some really nice new expensive Bowers & Wilkins speakers recently and this one sounds the business on them (from the album) - unbelievably crisp production for the time. Also sounded fantastic at Mark Freeman's modern niter the other week
  9. That's an interesting one - well put together but can't help thinking he should have stayed behind the desk lol
  10. Same here - remember someone on SS I think saying it wouldn't have stood up in the golden era but I reckon you could easily file it next to say Cecil Washington Great article Andy - how did you get to meet them? Shame the thread is spread over two articles - could they be put together?

  12. Was Gene known / played first? Always imagine it a Wigan tune but was it played earlier?
  13. Cheers Pete, I think that's it - a real atmosphere tune that can sound a bit twiddly and under powered played quietly
  14. Walter Jackson - Let me come back (Brunswick) Long history with this one - first heard spun by Cliff Steele I think in Cleethorpes old upstairs modern room mid 90's - just caught the end of it and was blown away. Took a while to get one at the right price but eventually did from Paul Capon, who described it as 'sex on vinyl' lol. Over the years though, much as I have liked it I would never really say I absolutely loved it - to some extent it's a bit of a dog's dinner with almost too much going on rhythmically and musically, and WJ sounding like he turned up at the wrong studio and got roped in. However started playing it again on the headphones as a late night spin and suddenly it all makes sense - the lyrics, the grooving bassline, the Jeff Perry arrangement - just fabulous. You probably don't get the best of it here but stick it up loud with plenty of bass and enjoy
