'Spot-light On' Nev Wherry
The photo and the fact he died early 1980's would suggest to me 28 more accurate

JOHN POWNEY RIP - Funeral details
Really sorry to hear this - spent some entertaining afternoons in his back room mid-late 90's. The first couple of times especially he had boxes full of Twinight, M-Pac, King, Federal, Mar-V-Lus, etc - a real treasure trove. One time I wrote to him shortly after visiting asking for two records I had forgotten to buy. A few days later the records arrived in the post with a note saying 'these records are priceless, and therefore free' - that was the kind of guy he was. Another time I rang up for something on his list that he had already sold, so he let me have his own copy instead. Definite end of an era - RIP John

Colette Kelly
Came across this a while back on www.dereksdaily45.blogspot.co.uk - suggests not the Irish Colette Kelly. Volt Colette Kelly not a great voice but always assumed a black singer. In the notes with the Stax / Volt Singles Volume Two box set Rob Bowman wrote - "Colette Kelly came via a master purchase agreement with Baltimore jukebox owner Sam Ungar. Kelly was young enough at the time that her parents needed to co-sign her contract. Ungar had also recorded Little Hooks and the Kings who enjoyed a minor hit on the Eastern Seaboard with 'Give the Drummer Some' released initially on Ungar's Enjay label and then, as it showed signs of promise, on MGM. These two records were the only attempts Ungar ever made to get into the production side of the record industry. Colette Kelly never recorded again and today (1993) manages a club in Baltimore. I have "Long and Lonely World" by her from a Dean F download. It's also from 1969 on Volt so I guess it's the flip side, and another good track. These 2 songs city of fools and long and lonly nites WERE writen and prodused by my brother and his group The Steppin Stores, Mary M.had stolden them and didapeared, My brother still has the oridgenol demos and is now seeking leagal help for copy infringment, My brothers name is John Anello Colette Kelly sang in his band Anyone that wonts to get hold of me, Tom Anello MY EMAIL tomsram@comcast.net

Have seen many live soul acts over the years but can't think of any as spellbinding as Bettye Lavette at Cleethorpes w/ender (1994 I think). You could have heard a pin drop during 'Let me down easy' - totally took the room to another place- Jerry & Billy Butler - I Stand Accused 1970
- Dee Dee Sharp - Happy 'bout The Whole Thing
- Bobby Hutton - Come See What's Left Of Me
- Epsilons - The Echo
- Larry Allen - Can't We Talk it Over (Green Dolphin)
Spot on Peter, thanks - here it is at 35.40 from Yarmouth w/e radio show, though Neil Allen plays it (Neil Clowes follows).- Larry Allen - Can't We Talk it Over (Green Dolphin)
Anyone know anything about the version with the woman singing over the top of Larry, like a duet? Used to have it on a tape years ago, maybe from one of the early 90's weekenders radio shows. Could never make up my mind if it was any good or not- Larry Allen - Can't We Talk it Over (Green Dolphin)
Which venues do you associate it with most?- Larry Allen - Can't We Talk it Over (Green Dolphin)
Thanks Arthur - was it big elsewhere at the same time?- Larry Allen - Can't We Talk it Over (Green Dolphin)
Thanks guys - what about when it was first played here - Casino? Who played it? John Anderson find? - Bettye LaVette a month ago
