    The down points...

The Wheel memorabilia/pics are a bit thin on the ground and not very good quality as is the layout (should have got a proper designer - like me - to do it).

At the tail end it when it talks post-Wheel it completely misses out and is clearly not aware of Brian Rae's (for a time) massively successful Twisted Wheel revivals which ran on bank holidays for several years - saying that Pete Robert's events were the first soul dos run at the club for 29 years.

In fact, there were also some Placemate Allinighters in the very early 80s run by someones else, plus there were a few soul alldayers run there immediately after the Wheel closed and became Placemate 7 - I have Pete's Placemate 7 membership - I believe these were some of the first soul events that RS went to.

It would have benefitted from some more input/comments from Wheel regulars.

The bit on Les was pretty cursory too - specially given the fact he played the very last record, it also fails to make the point that ironically he DJed at Legends itself (as well as Heroes) in the 80s.

    HOWEVER...

I have to say that what there is in there copy-wise is extremely well written and authoritative (only got it yesterday and have already finished it) - so overall I would HIGHLY recommend it, especially for the paltry £15 price tag.

Rob McCeever - if you ever want to redo it 'properly' give me a shout and we'll work something out.

PS Would have put this in the new topic but I couldn't find it!

I  can’t find it ?  Where is the “New Topic “ ?   Can the Soul Source team please sent me a link.

  2. Can I thank you all for your comments, and for giving me the Best job in the World!!! And can I thank John and all the Dj's who have worked a long side me for the last 12 and a half years!!!

A BIG THANK YOU!!! To the tens of 1000's of people I have had the pleasure of meeting over the years at the Twisted Wheel Club!.. Yes sadly 6 Whitworth Street as gone!!!

But Music and the great friendships that have been made at the Wheel will live on!! And I know you will still be joining us at THE TWISTED WHEEL CLUB at our New Address on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter, Manchester City Centre.

Our Opening Day is this Sunday 13th of January with one of our Legendery "Sunday Afternoon Soul Sessions" hope to see you all there.

    It's Truly been an Honour.

    Soulfully Yours.

    Pete Roberts.

  3. I WASN'T GOING TO REPLY TO YOUR COMMENT BUT MAYBE YOUR RIGHT?

WHO KNOWS WE COULD END UP WITH 100's OF TWISTED WHEEL CLUBS OR NIGHTS!!! NOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT. YOUR ALSO RIGHT THE TWISTED WHEEL CLUB DIED IN 1971, IT WAS THE ABADI BROTHERS WHO PULLED THE PLUG ON THE WHEEL THEMSELVES, AND NOT THE POLICE!!! ALL THE ABADI BROTHERS HAD LOST WAS THEIR ALL-NIGHTERS AND COULD OF CONTINUED WITH THE CLUB JUST DOING SOUL NIGHTS BUT THAT WASN'T VIABLE FOR THEM TO DO SO..... YOUR RIGHT THE WHEEL WAS GONE AND DIED IN 1971 TO MAKE WAY FOR A 70's DISCO. SO WHEN I WAS FREE TO REOPEN THE WHEEL IN 2000 , I DID!!!

SO WHAT SHOULD I OF CALLED IT??.... WIGAN CASINO? THE TORCH, BLACKPOOL MECCA, OR THE CATACOMBS?

THIS IS 6. WHITWORTH STREET. MANCHESTER AND IN THE ORIGINAL BASEMENT CLUB WHERE I WENT AS A KID, AND WAS ONLY EVER GOING TO PLAY TWISTED WHEEL RECORDS FROM (1963 TO 1971) AND I HAVE DONE FOR THE PAST 12 AND A HALF YEARS!! AND THE CLUB AS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL WITH MORE COMING NOW THEN IT EVER DID IN ITS HAYDAY!!... SO WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE CALLED IT?

I AM NOT TRYING TO COMPARE OR EVEN MAKE A COMPARISON TO THE ORIGINAL CLUB IN THE 60's, BUT ARE THE 1000's OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE COME TO THE CLUB AND HAVE ENJOYED IT ALL WRONG, SINCE IT WAS REOPENED IN 2000?? SO WHATS IN A NAME? IF I DIDN'T USE IT!!! OTHER PEOPLE WOULD OF DONE!!!

WHEN WE MOVE TO NQ LIVE IN THE NORTHERN QUARTER ON TIB STREET. MANCHESTER CITY CENTRE. I'M SURE THE NEW CLUB WILL DO VERY WELL SO WHATS IN A NAME? I COULD HAVE CALLED IT ANYTHING!! THE BLACKBIRD CAFE CELLAR CLUB OR EVEN THE TIB ST. LABOUR CLUB OR THE PETE ROBERTS CLUB,... BUT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN WRONG.

A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU,

AND I ALSO SEE SOULHAM LIKE YOUR QUOTE?

The Twisted Wheel moved from Brazenose Street because it needed a larger venue by the same owners so it wasn't a bootleg.

I agree anything after 71 Whitworth Street is a bootleg and calling the new NQ club the Wheel is most defintely one.

In fact we might finish up with hundreds of Twisted Wheels by that rate, but if people enjoy it who gives a sh*t
