  1. Spot on mellorful.. I went to Aspull Sec in Wigan 1966 - 1970 and the teachers would frighten the kids to death by flexing various size canes before thrashing them.. The teachers ruled by force and fear and where crap at their jobs We where in Swinley as usual and it was great to see Jordan and all the young uns there, some of them started their journey at this club I personally loved the film and could relate to many of the scenes After speaking to folks and reading comments on FB re the drugs too many folks are trying to deny the truth.. I had to laugh when I heard one guy say if his Mum sees the film he will be grounded for a couple of years
  2. Like most I was dead against the cameras being allowed into the Casino, there are a few faces on the footage that i recognise as regulars and still see a few out n about However I am glad they did it and IMHO it has provided the best footage from the era
  3. Sky where interviewing Soul Folk at Swinton Palais today, don't know when it's being aired
  4. As Steve said they used one of Richard Searlings Soul Nights at Blackburn KGH to film and a lot of the footwork was from older dancers Rumworth Hall, Bolton which has a regular Soul night was used as a Dance club, many of the local young uns where already heavily into the scene and good dancers, but older dancers from the scene worked with them to show them different styles of dancing
  5. I'm surprised he was unaware that events are still taking place if he is still living in Burnley, as it has always been an area with plenty of soul venues and there are still numerous events in and around Burnley including one of the best Nighters in the Country (IMHO)
  6. I saw the Avenger as well.. L reg 72 -73.. It was mint I don't recall seeing an Avenger looking so good when they where new Yes the audio wasn't too good last night but I agree with Martyn it was down to KGH and not the film.. I enjoyed it
  7. It has sold out twice and they have updated to a bigger room after selling out, I have no doubt they will sell the 21 seats required
  8. On the You Tube Vid there appears to be disagreement if they are genuine Comos but they appear to look like how I remember them
  9. Chris 61..... Brilliant, who would ever thought there was a video of them Do you know the guy.. I want them shoes lol
  10. Comos where the shoes all the Wiganers wore from around 68 - 75, they where very popular in Liverpool and most North West Towns They came in black and brown and where a plain leather shoe with leather soles... If memory serves me right the Skins wore them first Finest dancing shoe I ever wore
  11. The Cambridge event is fully booked at the moment but it is almost certain they will be updated to a larger Cinema Check this link for more options https://www.ourscreen.com/search/screenings/?Req.CategoryId&Req.SearchTerm=northern+soul+&Req.Date&Req.Time&Req.ScreeningStatusId&Req.LocationText&Req.CinemaId
  12. Independent Cinemas appear to be your best for seeing it You could also get together with friends to get it shown Have you seen this thread..
  13. Comos and Royals where the only shoes I ever used to dance in back in the day.. I would love to come across an original pair of Comos I still have an original pair of Ikon Solatio shoes but find them a bit heavy and always use brogues
  14. Yes a lot of folks are dancing in trainers, whilst I cant get my head around dancing in anything other than leather soles some of the dancers using them are top dancers Regarding Talc one of my pet hates the amount being used and on floors where there is no need for it is getting ridiculous and yet the folks using trainers manage without Talc
  15. If someone has info on the Edinburgh showing then please let me know..... Sooty it is on in Edinburgh on 18th October https://www.ourscreen.com/screening/37360
  16. The Film have a FB page for folks to link together to get the Independent Cinemas to show which is proving successful It would be worth having a separate thread on here to bring pressure on Cinemas to show it and to link in with local Soul nights
  17. Plenty of the locals are meeting in the nearby Red Robin pub prior to the film and the regular local Soul night at the Twisted Knee @ The Swinley on Wigan Lane is on afterwards to round off the evening

  24. Andy, You might be right about it not being Northern I was talking to someone who went along to one of the practice sessions at Rumworth and he said they where told they are aiming for 100 people dancing in Deansgate.. So the flashmob remark looks pretty accurate It was no surprise to find out they practiced to "The Snake as it was claimed everyone knew that from Weddings"
