  1. She previously sang with Smith, also on ABC-Dunhill, that hit here in the States with their Janis Joplin-style take on "Baby It's You"...I believe Smith evolved from the Klassmen on Musicland USA.
  2. Same group as on Minit?
  3. I love his version of "Come Rain or Come Shine" that he did for RCA...great stomper version of the old standard.
  4. Columbia Pictures bought Bell in 1969. When that happened, Amy and Mala were shut down.
  5. Yep...the record I have here is Maycon 110/111.
  6. Just noticed...the number on mine is 110, not 108.
  7. As it turns out, I DO have that one, albeit a little worn...can't really play-grade anything as my turntable doesn't want to seem to kick up. Vinyl looks OK. I'd certainly be up for a trade if you're interested.
  8. Let me see if I have it...I picked up one, maybe two of Earl's 45's not too long ago...I wasn't too fond of it, whichever one it was.
  9. I've got several 45's to trade...things I don't care for or have spares of...I REALLY would love to swap something for Linda Carr if you still have it.
  10. I've got a nice black label issue if you're interested in doing a trade...let me know.
  11. Imaginations and Intentions are top tunes with me right now...nice to see 'em in the same DJ spot!!
  12. The coolest thing about reading these playlists...seeing a record that you own on 'em and knowing that you can spin 'em when you DJ and make 'em work!!
  13. 'A running commentary of a guy dying in the back of an ambulance'? 'Fraid not, Dave..."Timothy" is a song about three miners trapped in a cave-in...but when they're freed, only two are there...so what happen to poor Tim? The speculation is they killed and ate him ('My stomach was full as it could be/And nobody got around to finding Timothy'). The song was written by Rupert Holmes (the "Pina Colada" guy) and banned in many cities across the U.S. for the suggestion of cannibalism...which was Holmes's intent when he wrote the song, to come up with something controversial to get people's attention. The song hit the U.S. Top 20, but unfortunately for the group they never quite came up with something that big again. Best, Mark
  14. They mentioned that they have a single coming out...that's about all I know. They didn't have a CD, as they certainly would've had copies for sale. Best, Mark
  15. Saw these dudes last night at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland (this is the place that occasionally has a soul dance party that I attend)...anyhow, they're from Akron (one-time home of Bob Hall...RIP) and this was their first gig in Cleveland. They opened for Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, who were also pretty good. These guys bill themselves as a Northern soul band, and they can really BLOW!! The lead singer is a really high energy guy...I mean, he sweated right through his f*ck*ng suit! They have the full complement of horns, as well as standard guitar/bass/drums. Most of their songs were originals, though they threw "We Got More Soul" and did "Can Your Monkey Do the Dog?" as an encore. What really blew my mind was when they said, 'We're gonna play a Northern soul song' and broke out into Eddie Parker's "Love You Baby"...I was probably one of the few people there who knew the song and was naturally ecstatic when they played it. When I spoke to him afterward and told him how much I enjoyed the Eddie Parker tune, his face lit up big time. I also told him that I was the big Northern fan in the room, which made him happy. I'm hoping these guys get to play other venues in the States...they are definitely worth seeing if anyone gets the chance. They're only the second Northern soul band I've seen since I saw the Inciters 10 years ago in San Jose. Best, Mark
  16. I would LOVE to have "The Snake" as a ringtone...I'd also love to have "Timothy" by the Buoys as a ringtone too...not Northern but I'd just like to have it 'cause I have a dark sense of humor! Best, Mark
  17. He's coming here to Cleveland on May 10th...I think I just might go! Best, Mark
