  1. Always loved instrumentals...........don't need vocals to dance but you do need the rythm and the beat ......and they can be soulful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea8WP6AT8Sc (Dave Hamilton - the deacons)
  2. ....does your family call you " R - Reg" ?
  3. .......so do I .......big name DJ's shape the scene, what's hot, what's not... .......local DJ's shape the scene, what they've got, or what the locals want... .......big name promoters shape the scene, influx of newbies or cutting edge/underground... .......local promoters shape the scene, fragmenting attendances at bigger events or providing an alternative more accessible option... ......punters shape the scene, bums on seats and atmosphere..... ......dancers and collectors usually fall into one or more of the above groups but I feel that those two activities define the essence of and underpin the scene. Just my opinion obviously............but I do think that all facets of the scene are inter-dependant. and to answer the question subjectively....no I don't think that I have personally shaped the scene other than in supporting promoters and DJ's at the events that I go to.
  4. Philately will get you nowhere
  5. I think I know what he's on about, very politely and diplomatically responding to earlier posts and producing figures to those who challenged his previous comments about the level of attendances. He's also suggesting a way to try to tackle the problem of too many gigs and the effects of the split within the scene. Love his optimism and enthusiasm and at least he's looking at how to improve things and not just whining about them. .......just needs to edit stuff down more succinctly perhaps?

  14. Seems to me that the indicators used to gather information about whether people's tastes and habits have changed, also need to change in order to accurately reflect what's really happening and to keep up with the emergence of alternative media. When "popular music" was only made and sold in a limited number of formats from a relatively small number of principal sources, statistical information could be gathered far more comprehensively than it can now. If my 15 year old daughter is anything to go by, todays teenagers are just as preoccupied with music and fashion as my generation was/is. So I don't necessarily agree that because traditional sources/media may be in decline that there is any loss of interest in making and enjoying music.

  21. I was sitting on the banks of the river Kennet in the Benyons Estate on Halloween, good while back now, first light on a very foggy morning, when I heard what sounded like distant thunder. The rumbling got gradually louder, then a figure appeared out of the mist, a man in a black tail coat. white waistcoat and breaches, on a black horse rode passed me and doffed his top hat...........I sh*t myself and nearly jumped in the river! The rumbling got even louder and I contemplated hiding in the willows next to me......then out of the mist came two harts followed by a pack of hounds and thirty odd mounted huntsmen in hot pursuit. The "sleepy hollow" figure was presumably the leader of the hunt who had ridden along the river's edge to keep the deer from straying in that direction. Put the wind up me at first I can tell you.!!!
  22. comes to all the do's with me and always gravitates to the modern room if there is one, but just over-faced by my preoccupation with it.......I think?
