  1. I think the vocals in the jades "I'm where its at" are soulful and that NF Porter's "keep on keeping on" gets in the soulful category a la Norman Whitfield Temptations stuff. Depends on the listener's ear I suppose and then the subjective bigger question that we are trying to avoid kicks in.
  2. Edwin Starr was great in the flesh but the back catologue helped is performances stand out I think. Artists can be really let down if the backing, as in musicians or mixing PR systems aren't right.
  3. Ohio players cover of "love slipped through my fingers" and Ella Fitzgerald's "get ready" are both nice alternatives.
  4. Think it might be taken from an Indian take away conversation and he's saying "I'l have the bhuna, I'll have the, I'll have the, I'll have the bhuna.... Got the CD plus a copy of "Dave Hamilton's Detroit Dancers" from Beatin Rythm whilst in Manchester yesterday as part of my on-going education............very nice indeed. Interesting read also.
  5. Just how I feel although I prefer a slippy floor but know what you mean about over doin' the talk. If someone's enjoying dancing, they look better than if they are trying too hard, regardless of style. Forget every one else and do your own thing (just don't knock the beer or your neighbours over). I'd have to be dead or deaf not to get up personally but know plenty of people who are just as happy to sit it out all night.
  6. ......or Jr Walker - Shotgun
  7. All the best mate hope all goes well.
  8. PM'ing you on a serious note....but on a lighter note (given the her disposition) I threatened my mum that I was going to play these at her funeral when we were making her arrangements just before she died; Ding dong the witch is dead - wizard of oz Fire - the crazy world of arthur brown Smoke gets in your eyes - the ink spots Going underground - the jam !!!
  9. Looks like it may be time to embrace and encourage the interest of the broader populous in all aspects of NS and its trappings, however distasteful we personally find some of the styles within the genre, so as to promote a "retro-cool" identity in the hope that will buy more time? Commercial exploitation of "the scene/ scenes" may be an unwelcome catalyst for longevity? Live and let live would seem to be the way to go then. Otherwise lie down and accept that technology will overcome.....and sell, sell, sell!
  10. read on another thread, can't recall which......... Bloke takes a young lad to a soul do who on reading a flyer for an oldies night on the table says "f*ck me, do they have nights for people older than this lot in here?"
  11. totally agree......"I've reached my quota of positive votes for the day"...................I'm sure they've put some kind of handicap on how many "likes" I can have...........oh no, not another visit from Mr Paranoia I hope!!!!!

  23. Hey mate I l know I'm out of my depth with you on this subject, you do what you do and I'll do what I do so let's both just get on and enjoy what we do. By the way I will genuinely try to learn more about the rarer side and have an open mind despite my input on this thread. I was tempted to carry on the semantics for a laugh though and would have said the following, tongue in cheek, but didn't want to cause offence... Charring Cross, Kings Cross, Gudge Street,Warren Street and........... Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.....................I'm just a dumb arsed dancer at the end of the day! All the best
