  1. there's the debonairs - feel all right on W-BS too, great girl group sound
  2. I can agree that I would at times rather have a crowd of hardcore dedicated soulies to play to every time I'm out, but I think both have their merits. as Mr. Winstanley has said, "Don't keep the faith, spread it!"
  3. I saved the mp3 from the auction listing which is much better than the one on youtube, should I up it here?
  4. totally infectious record. on my dream list too.
  5. The last Backstreet here was held at a place called Haven, which is historically a recreation hall for the workers at the Carlsberg brewery. it doesn't get more proper than that! but most events here seem to be held at hip night clubs or pubs with generally a younger crowd who aren't necessarily keen on the music, but are open-minded and receptive for the most part.
  6. Gwen Owens - I Lost A Good Thing on Velgo?
  7. also, for staunch oldies fans you really cannot do better than Backstreet, Denmark's oldest northern soul club, currently on their 22nd year in Copenhagen. https://www.northernsoul.dk/
  8. thanks Annais but they're not mine, but my mates who I spin with Sí¸ren L and Nik B who do a fantastic monthly night called GhettoSoul here in Copenhagen. together with those guys and the above mentioned DJs we've started a new night to bring together all the best soul DJs in the area called Delegates Of Soul which will be at a much more proper venue, and a historic one in this city, Stengade. we hope to build it up into a great night for dancers as the space has a proper sprung wooden dancefloor and great sound!
  9. here is GhettoSoul (Sí¸ren L and Nik B)'s playlists, in my opinion playing the best mix of sounds currently in Denmark. https://soundcloud.com/ghettosoul
  10. I'll gladly report the top 5 spins from our night this coming month here in Copenhagen, which will hopefully also feature Jonte from malmoe as a guest DJ, as well as Kaspar S (Backstreet), Nikolaj B (GhettoSoul), and myself (Tower City). also, tjena sebastian!
  11. can't recommend this record enough! I have the issue version with the the keys mixed too high for most, but the promo version is the one to have. b-side is sublime too!
  12. to further weird things out, here's Rush's "City of Soul" on Sir-Rah, a Hollywood label: https://www.popsike.com/NORTHERN-SOUL-RON-BUSH-CITY-OF-SOUL-SOMETIMES-I-WONDER-SIR-RAH-NO-/300685504947.html
  13. I have a matched set of technics ones if you'd like them, PM me if you're interested.
  14. someone get Marc Forrest on the horn
  15. anyone know where this artist/label was based? really enjoying this raw sound, especially that very heavy foghorn!
  16. some will always slip through the cracks, hidden in plain sight. thats how I scored Ann Sexton - You've Been Gone Too Long (albeit a fairly rough copy) for a whopping 99 cents
  17. you have the option to add a counter to the bottom of an auction when listing, so that people visiting the auction page can see how many times its been seen. This can be turned off easily though too, so it just depends on the seller's preference of if he/she wants it to be seen by the others or not. the seller can always see that information though. unless now you as the bidder have the option to see how many other people are watching it too? I've never seen that...
  18. shipping is £3 to UK, £2 within europe. combine for cheaper rates.
  19. discovered an old "legendary" San Diego musician I've met a few times over the years being from there, Pea Hix, has an ebay account and sells all sorts of these kinds of things, and plenty more weird ephemera from bygone eras. worth checking out or keeping an eye on if you like these sorts of things, George. made me think of it since you mentioned that "chicken delight" record, as it was in his last lot of listings (unsold if you know someone in need of a copy ). He occasionally digs up the odd rare piece of soul as well, it seems. https://www.ebay.com/sch/peahix/m.html?_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1
  20. a few good spins for varied tastes, nothing wildy rare Edwin Starr - Girls Are Getting Prettier (Ric Tic) VG++ - 10 Artistics - Its Those Little Things That Count (Brunswick) - WLP, VG++ Sublime Crossover/70's! - 20 Oscar Toney Jr. - Ain't That True Love/For Your Precious Love (Bell) - Drill Hole, VG++ 15 Brothers, Sisters & Cousins - Smoke Stream (Nasco) reissue, VG++ - 5 Belles - Let Me Do It / Jackie Lee - I'll Do Anything (Soul Fox) VG++ - 5 ships from Denmark, PM if interested.
  21. do you have a sample for the Charlie McClendon? youtube or some other source is fine. also, how much shipping to europe for the lot?
  22. has there ever been a reissue or boot of this one? many of the others have but never seen a repress of this one so far.
  23. those "Another Like'a Youuuuu"'s get me every time, that record is definitely up there for me too. at the moment: Ujima - I'm Not Ready Natural Four - Hanging On To A Lie Charades - Key To My Happiness Delegates Of Soul - I'll Come Running Back Willie Jones - Where's My Money (to buy all of these?)
  24. getting lots of plays again it seems (and a lot of mention on here) is the LP only track "Sadie Sadie" from the Ripple Blast Singers LP "Funny Girl Ala Soul". picked it up on a dig first time at a shop I'd never been to here in Copenhagen, posted it here on trade as there were other tracks I was after, but it grew on me so much that its become a major staple of my sets. absolutely stellar spin, surprising nobody has cut a 45 boot of it. I was just back in the states and catching my flight from San Francisco to New York I stupidly left my bag of LPs on the roof of my friend's car when she dropped me off in a rush. she got onto the freeway and was going 60+mph when someone honked at her and pointed to the roof all my LPs in tact, saved probably by the weight of my 45 adaptors in the same bag! absolutely devastating to realize I was without them at first though. now waiting to get it shipped back so it can reclaim its rightful seat in my set.
  25. Alice Clark - you hit me (right where it hurt me)
