Modern Soul 12's For Sale Us & Uk Releases More Aded 1/10
Richard Rogers, sealed £1.50 !! someone do themselves a favour and buy it, remember this played at Thorne one night when Pete Shirley did a very upfront set. Tashan-Love Is Forever, class like everythin Tashan touches. Sam Dees-Fly Angel fly killer ballad, don't see it too often either. Terry Burrus -Share My Dreams, another great tune used to love it, will dig it out tonight and see how its aged, well I imagine. Just giving these a bump Derek, you've been workin hard at these.

What's Your Favourite Album?
Whats Going On, got to be the greatest, so soulful, political,angry,beautiful,timeless... Tashan-On The Horizon. always think of it as a 'Whats Going On' for late 80's/ early 90's.

Fourth Day
Its on D.T., label owned by Dennis Talley. There is also version (very similar as I recall, not got 4th Day anymore) on DT by The Magnificents with On My Way Up on the otherside. Nice double sider, I think The Magnificents is probably scarcer than 4th Day but I could be totally wrong on that one!

Dave Godin Guilty?

Gnarls Barkley Crazy
too right its better than the usual crap. I'm afraid putting up soundfiles is a bit beyond me at the moment I would say check out recent release by Mr Ali & Glenn Underground--Imagine Freedom on Unified, sound clips on Juno. Amazing tune, brilliant lyrics. Not everyones cup of tea on here I realsie but as soulful as anything I think.

Gnarls Barkley Crazy
very heavy radio 1 rotation and on the tv ad for zane lowe evening show....and to confirm its mass appeal....record of the week with Ken Bruce on Radio 2. Banker for number 1 spot when released. Quite odd cos tunes much better than this are being released all the time by little labels particularily out of New York / New Jersey and beyond, this is a little quirky gets a push from the right source and bang its a massive top ten hit and then its a pop record,or was it always a pop record?. I do quite like the tune but am sick to death of it and thats a month before its release and only hearing it when I'm in a car for work. If Zane Lowe chose to push the Ron Hall track would the same thing happen...now its a convenient radio friendly 7" it might just happen.Actually I bet a 7" is hardly radio friendly these days.

Tv Advert Tunes
Gnarls Barcley is not out till April sometime I think. Heard it metioned on the radio, been played a lot on radio 1, advance copies were fetchin money on e-bay. By the time it gets its release I imagine it will have been carved up and out there anyway, the full version drags on I thought.

Betty Wright Explosion Lp
Great that Betty Wright is getting a lot of nods at the moment. "sevens" lp from 1986 has some of my faves by her on it, worth checking out, cannot be more than a few quid I'd guess.

Dj Genesis - Tribute To Betty - 12''
Much as we all respect Sam there a lot of djs on the Soulful Dance scene who played this record nearly 18 months ago. I always forget that until the northern scene thinks a tune is good it is generally dismissed as that "disco/house/garage" rubbish. lets face it the "northern seen" (sic) picks up up on 1 in every 150 good new releases and waits ten years for the other 149.
-
Influences
Also a special mention to Ady Connolly (Derby) whose awesome collection early '80s was a never ending inspiration.

Dj Genesis - Tribute To Betty - 12''

"working Week"
memory not good enough to remember the sleeve, think it looked a bit like fruit machine? "Candy Skin", all time great, bought a copy a year or two ago with a poster sleeve about £4. Fire Engines recently reformed and played a one off with Franz Ferdinand in London, FF covered "get up and use me" on a 45.Buy a few of these 45's from my young days when I see them cheap, just put 'em on the shelf usually.

"working Week"
Anyone remember Girls At Our Best? Blimey, Girls at our Best! I used to have a 45, 'going for gold' think it was called.

To put the boot on the other foot........ my postie is a good mate so I have left a compilation CD out for him today!

"working Week"
the aformentioned Plain Sailing theatre of hate wild swans ruts wah heat smiths plus more chart friendly things like cruel to be kind, johnny and mary, tiny children etc... Pete All during the Summer when England were beating the Aussies I was waiting for Bringing Home The Ashes by The Wild Swans to be played over the highlights.....never happened though. Someone else mentioned Pillows and Prayers, this was a Cherry Red records compilation lp with pay no more than £1.99 sticker on it featuring Eyeless In Gaza, Tracey Thorn, Ben Watt, Marine Girls, Felt, The Passage plus others, was also a video aswell I think. OK listening for a change now and again, some of it doesnt stand up too well to the passing of time but that goes for a lot of stuff ey!

"working Week"
i remember Y Venceremos but did'nt know Tracey Thorn was on vocals, thought I still had it somewhere but can't find it. Remember Weekend aswell, on Rough Trade. At that time there were Weekend, The Gist and Young Marble Giants used to swap personnel quite a bit, I think Stuart Moxham (or similar name) was behind a lot of it. The Gist-Love at First Sight was always a favourite. Am I still on soul source here?

Chi-lites - Try My Side (of Love)

Garland Green Lp On Ocean Front
well what do I know ey, mile out on the price and Simon describes it as fantastic!! different strokes and all that, I will play it again though
-
Garland Green Lp On Ocean Front
Assuming the only one on Ocean Front is the one with big green writing on the front,..... I doubt it will be expensive at all but you never know. I remember a couple of ok covers of Lamont Doziers 'trying to hold' and 'loves calling', Lamont Dozier was involved in the album but not as producer, might have been a bit better if he had produced it though. As for dance floor action, not sure, there are 2 or 3 'ok' dancers on there but I suspect they might sound a bit dated now. Released in 1983
