  1. Sunrise opposite my house, any tips Martyn, is it the same rule you mentioned for sunsets I've taken quite a few but they always end up quite dark like this one
  2. Snap to that, no pun intended,
  3. I would not have known but I'll go by the Yanks answer on the thread which seems to indicate no.
  4. I think I could have filled the ten with just Teddy ,so many class songs to his credit.

  8. always loved I Don't Know Why I Love You
  9. just set up a deck and dug out the boxes from under the stairs, must have had this over thirty years can't recall ever playing it
  10. One of the resident Dj's set at Pershore last year, don't know his name, early doors he said he was going to play some underplayed stuff, no more than a couple of people danced but he stuck to his guns, played some fantastic tunes ,me and my mate still mention it now, as I said to the Dj after his set, made the trip down from North of Manchester worth the effort even if the rest of the night turned out to be crap which it wasn't. As for what makes a great set, I like to hear a fair few I've never heard, a few I know from YouTube but have never heard played out, two or three beat ballads unknown to me if possible, a couple that it's been that long since I heard them played out they come as a surprise and in between I quite like it when a Dj throws in a common as muck record that's at odds with everything else he or she has played, trying to think of an example ,it's happened a couple of times but I can't recall the tunes but I do remember turning to whoever I was with saying never thought I'd hear that at a Northern night.
  11. Was that the one on the old train station? I went to that one , if it is it was an All Niter, I think Major Lance was on there but my memory is like yours, I do remember though my mates Scooter breaking down just outside Bradford on the way home.....that was one memory I wish I could forget.
  12. Mods please remove if deemed inappropriate to the thread as I say not wishing to hijack the photo thread Slightly off topic but as someone who appreciates all the wildlife photos posted I was writing for my own amusement a poem inspired by Martyn's great photo of the Pheasant and needed to do a bit of research as to shooting seasons, we all know about seasons for Grouse shooting but I was shocked to see that there are permitted times to shoot Coot/Moorhen and Snipe, I'm neither a birdwatcher nor hunter but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want to shoot a Moorhen or some of the other birds that actually have a permitted season. Anyone on here enlighten me as to whether people do actually intentionally shoot Moorhen, Common Snipe, is there a Trophy list amongst the shooting fraternity like there is with Big Game hunters, not trying or wishing to start a debate on the rights or wrongs of Shooting as a sport just interested if anyone has the answer.
  13. We've deviated a bit from the original question but in an interesting way at least for me, it's often asked on here who influenced you and how did you get into Black Music ,never thought about it before but you mentioning Alexis Corner when I was a lad and a young one at that Alexis used to be on TV all the time and one particular programme I can't remember the name of ,I remember Tommy Bruce he of the voice of gravel being on there too singing from a phone box I'm on Fire, you got me wondering now was Alexis an early influence for me. Back to the original question I looked but couldn't find anything about John Abbey ,got to admit I didn't search for long, it did throw up two old threads on here about him one which had potential to be interesting but the link to an interview with him wouldn't work, might work for others though, type in Rare Interview with John Abbey on the search ,hope the link works for you, it came up on mine as you do not have permission to access this server. So does anyone know have an answer to is he still around?
  14. That's a great tune, new to me ,Cheers
  15. Thinking outside the box or maybe it should be inside the box my vinyl wish would be to be burnt in a coffin made from my record collection, never set fire to a record I presume they burn with a lot of smoke, I can just see the looks on the mourners faces as plumes of acrid black smoke billow (no pun intended) into the sky. Maybe they just melt and would envelop me like cling film........I really must get out more........if I had to pick an actual record I guess it would be nothing exciting just one I love, never get tired of hearing and have never owned, Julian Covay A Little Bit Hurt......probably something else will spring to mind once I've hit submit reply
  16. Mike Raven along with older mates who were into Black Music at that time were my introduction into Soul in general not just Northern, I'd forgotten all about Dave Simmonds but yes I remember his shows now you mention it.
  17. Kokomo did a passable cover of Womack's I Can Understand It, not a patch on the man's obviously but ok oops!! just scrolled down thread and seen Rick already mentioned that, sorry
  18. With Steve's blessing a poem inspired by this photo of his Son and Grandson from last month The Bond They say a picture paints a thousand words This one shouts out one The look in this child’s eyes A father’s pride in his son You can only guess at the smiling eyes, The words the father said A child’s gaze so full of love For the wise so easily read It’s the time of magic, Dad is King His word always the truth If he says the moon is made of cheese The child has no need for proof It’s the age of wonder, For father and son, for each so much to learn An acorn growing deep within A bond neither has to earn The father’s unconditional love A guiding hand that’s always there There’s safety, love and trust Held in the child’s stare A special love manifests itself In the bond twixt father and son In the child’s loving innocent eyes That magic has begun.
  19. Not that I needed reminding but thanks Russ for posting the pics , we were in Rome last March where I popped the question at night time by the Trevi, Lou wondered what the heck was going on as I asked the girl sat next to us to film the proposal, Lou was moaning it's taking her some time to take the photo what's she waiting for..Happy memories, we were lucky enough to be there on the Sunday when it's free in the Colosseum.
  20. I thought it was pretty pointless too, I'm as far away from an expert on these matters as it is possible to be but sat here watching the snow fall outside the window I started thinking there must have been a reason for it somewhere in John's mind. Maybe on the wider issue of boots in general and the ever rising prices it might be a forthcoming extension to his book giving the weights, label widths, run out groove etc of known legitimate issues of records as opposed to boots. As I say I don't know how record production works, do all records from one particular label weigh the same, do labels stretch or shrink during manufacture, if they do or don't it seems a pointless exercise. If he'd compared two records in the video I could understand it more . Just thinking , no conclusion.
  21. Enjoyed the show, glad I gave up buying years ago this could have cost me a small fortune, brilliant set of tunes with the added bonus of two people enjoying themselves. Brightened up a chilly morning, cheers!
  22. Carlton Club last night, some nice tunes played by Vance early on but as usual too lazy to get up and ask the titles and Shazam let me down on every one. 1. Show Time Marlena Shaw , more than likely known to one and all but I don't remember hearing it before, probably have at some time seeing as how Shazam wasn't playing fair and laziness had set in going to have to go for a few classics that brought back memories 2. Spinners I'll Always Love You (Sunday nights at the Squirrel Club, was I ever that young) 3. David Ruffin Walk Away From Love (too often one wrong word and I was off, might not have been walking away from love but you never know) 4. Lenny Curtis Nothing Can Help You Now (when I had the energy to dance, bring on the bypass) 5 George Blackwell Can't Lose My Head (don't laugh, writing a monologue on the card cover when I thought paying a pound for a record was too much, to be fair I was on £5 a week for six days, I know some wag reading this is going to say FIVE POUNDS!!!! you were lucky when I wer a lad I got sixpence a month. Just sneaking in another I found on the old Tube after putting what I thought might be the title in my phone Classic Sullivans Shame Shame Shame
  23. Enjoyed the set, can you tell me the name of the track before the one Let's Ride this( something )Train, thank you in advance.
  24. Thanks for the tip Martyn, I get some fabulous sunsets opposite my house but never seem to get it right, I must have taken hundreds over the years as the sun dips down behind the hill , there are windmills on the hills opposite to the sunset which have an pink hue to them as the sun goes down, looking forward to trying your tip. To all you guys and gals on here who post great photographs many thanks, top thread.
  25. Love the video on youtube for this one, nice mix
