The Real Thing - New Album and Documentary
Thanks for the heads up on this Mike , will defiantly look out for this when it comes out . I’m sure it will bring back some great memories and some disturbing times in Toxteth . “4 from 8” was a cracking album and “ Children of the Ghetto “ a brilliant soundtrack that almost summed up those turbulent times in Liverpool 8 . Maybe not given the credit they where due in a lot of ways in helping to forge a path for black artists over here .

Motown Monopoly - New
Not really ... they go fairly regularly on EvilBay for under £60 - mint & sealed. These ones just in the last month. They do pop up. Just have to bide your time.

Motown Monopoly - New
Don’t want to burst any bubbles , but you can regularly pick this up quite cheap - I bought mine for less than £20 - sealed and mint . This one went for just over £30 this month .

Last Night at Wigan Casino - Kickstarter - New book
No Rob , far from it . What Francesco has are all the pictures and very fine pictures at that ... but not much else . Like a lot of crowdfunding ideas , these things can look glossy finished products to try and attract funds . I hear what you say about deposits / bank loans / or pre orders, but of you want to do things independently and try and have more control than handing things over up a publication house , then crowdfunding is one way to go ... but you have to get the word out in time and in the right places .

Last Night at Wigan Casino - Kickstarter - New book
All the above comments are correct regarding funding and pledges . All you are doing is pledging the amount to start off with and as a consequence no money will be taken if any venture fails to reach its specific target amount. Maybe failed to publicise this book as much as he could have to start off with and in the right places, but anyway what’s done’s done . Kickstarter has quite specific and ridged guidelines and rules with its crowdfunding .. and as a result this particular fund looks like it’s going to fail to reach its target . As such , nothing will happen , no money will be taken but they will have details of who has pledged and that may be helpful in future . I spoke to Francesco today , and while he’s disappointed that his target won’t be reached by Kickstarter , he will persevere next year by other means. He does not want to approach a publishing house for his own reasons , but his pictures are some of the best quality shots out there . It’s a kind of shame it was only the final night , but at least that’s a snapshot of a historic moment. He’s trying to do it in conjunction with a photographic exhibition ( probably in starting in Liverpool ) but one that could do the rounds hopefully . He’s also been interviewed for TV , which may come out when the book gets confirmed or close to publication . Either way , these pictures are some of the best shots of the Casino ... maybe not it’s hay-day .. but great none the less . That could be 3 new books for next year .

First off , the prices of items like this can always fluctuate so to give a real true value depends on a few things but most of all , what someone will pay for it at any given time. This particular patch doesn’t show up as much as a lot of the other common Wigan Anniversary patches but is not as rare as say the “I’m on my way “ Wigan Patch or the Tommy Hunt . The price Karl said is about right .10 years ago it might have been a bit more , £60 - £100 depending on condition. But now I’d say between £30-£50 on a good day . £5 is not realistic , even though some may say that’s all they would pay. There are those that scoff at collecting patches and say “ why would you collect something that you never went to” or so called “earned the right” to have. Maybe that could be true if you had bought them to wear out to events , but it’s nonsense to say your shouldn’t collect anything that you never participated at or just had an interested in. Collecting Northern Soul memrobillia is like any other form collecting. It’s not about what others think and you don’t do it ,or shouldn’t do it,for investment or profit. Collectors are oddball characters , I know , I’m one. I’ve collected Northern stuff since I was 15 , nearly 50 years , and it has never stopped. Why, because it’s about nostalgia. It can transport you back in time just as much as putting one of my old 45’s on. It takes me back to one of the most carefree, enjoyable times of my life , when the most fear was being caught by the DS at Wigan Station or being caught trying to bunk the train. Whatever you get for it , all I would say is try to make sure you sell your stuff to someone that will cherish it. Not to someone that wants to make a quick buck and stick it back on evilBay the same week they buy it. And if anyone has anything to pass on or let go of , please give me a PM .. always in the market for my collection to grow , even if the other half says we should be downsizing . Best of luck .

- Poll: Version Battle - Angel Baby
Good Poll battle this one and although George was the first one I heard , the one that resonated and hit me more was D.Banks . Just something about his voice and the beat... but i guess all 4 would get me on the dance floor . Least fav is The 3 1/2 version .- Cover photo for new book on Northern Soul
Just to add a little information to this , I believe Keith had originally posted a message on here back in 2015 , asking for help regarding his book project . As Rick rightly said , Keith Gildart is Professor of Labour and Social History at Department of History, Politics and War Studies, at University of Wolverhampton . He has had a few books published, and also looked at the impact of youth culture within the labour movement . I contacted him solely as he expressed a desire to copy a lot of printed material from early Blues and Soul magazines, and I offered him the use of my first 100 copies. He duly travelled to London and sorted through all the printed matter I had available for him , which he copied. Ricks post is very accurate in all aspects, as Keith tried many times in many ways to gain as much insight as he could from various sources not just this forum. And again as Rick stated, some did not wish to take part but many others did and offer him various other pieces of printed matter and information from that time , and yes sadly some of those are no longer with us . I know Keith travelled the country trying to gain as much insight and information as he could and I had pretty much forgotten about this until now. My understanding was / is also that the cut off date for this piece of work is around 1980 - and I had pretty much left the clubbing scene after Wigan closed its doors . Karl you are 100% right though in thinking there should be more focus on the post Wigan years , on all the clubs and diversity that grew after Wigan and maybe it does leave it open for a Volume 2 ... fingers crossed either way , just hope it’s a good read .- eBay bidder profile checker
Yes , they changed it rightly or wrongly , nearly 3 years ago. I also saw the last two bidders on the 100 clubs 40th anniversary single ... very doggy .- Show us your great photos (2019)

Big time of bringing film / music and the mod scene together . Roy Barrett still takes his iconic Union Jack scoot to loads of small festivals and meets around the country. That is the Royal Iris - used to plough it’s trail across and up and down the Mersey from the early 60s up until the early 90’s when it was taken out of service ... sold to a consortium in Bristol to be opened as a club at the docks but didn’t get a licence . At the end of a beautiful long walk along the Thames with Granddaughter yesterday , we ended up at the Thames barrier and found an old friend in a sorry sate . I remember some really nice days out on this old girl , that used to be called the big Fish and Chippy . So so sad to see .- Show us your great photos (2019)

Looks really good Smudger .. We do a annual trip to Sennen , camping every year and have done that walk a few times . Lovely mate , good pics . Weather wasn’t as great this year as they had a weather warning of very strong winds and rain and cancelled Boardmasters festival in Newquay . Most of the campers left our site , as did we a bit early and where glad we did . But always a stunning sunset- Northern Noise Magazine
Can help a little on this one Mike . As Ian stated , there where indeed 4 numbered copies given out and also an additional one simply called Wigan Casino Story .
