Up & Coming Dj's. But Who Should Move Over For Them?
Not really Gav, more of a dig at DJ's who just go through the motions. EG, Turn up 10 minuites before they're due on, play the 20 records that they have decided on & then piss off as soon as they have been paid. Dodger summed it up perfectly in his earlier post regarding his comments about Sam, still as keen as a 21 year old & still doing it because he loves it. Same can be said for Dodger, both Dodger & Sam have done spots for Modernism & when Sam was on he was bouncing about like a kid with a new toy behind the decks. Hope i've still got as much enthusiasm when i get to that age. As for Dodger the night he did our's we were quiet for a number of reasons, clashing with other night's, shit weather etc. but he still drove over the pennines & did a great spot with as much enthusiasm as if the place was packed to the rafters, he even turned down his fee as we were quiet & just took his petrol money (didn't know he drove a Rolls Royce though ). That's the point i'm trying to make, guy's who do it for the love of the music rather than how much they're gonna get paid.

Up & Coming Dj's. But Who Should Move Over For Them?
Thanks Mike Should just make it clear that it was not an age thing, far from it but perhaps i could have worded it a bit better. If you click on this link from this site & read post 21 i'm sure you will see what i mean. /index.p...opic=26394&st=0 Hope that clears it up.

Up & Coming Dj's. But Who Should Move Over For Them?
So the up & coming DJ thread has had over 250 posts & over 7000 views so here's the dilemma. Before we know it there will be more DJ's than punters Saw a guy do a spot recently (not who i originally mentioned) & he spent the full hour rooted to the spot with his arms folded & it was clear he couldn't be bothered & it was the longest hour i have ever witnessed. Not going to name him for the simple reason that luckily i've forgot his name. Remember this is just a bit of fun so no personal attacks please.

No offence taken Rod, just a bit of fun. Tell you what i'll do - If your'e that disillusioned with stuff like Mother Fox & Record Player i'll gladly take e'm off your hands for a modest fee to cover the p&p, it's the least i can do to relieve you of such dirge . Off to Tesco's now to stock up on cream soda Lata, Mart....

Looking For A Valuation On Some 7" Records
Hi Dave & welcome to the madhouse. Saw 3 copy's of King Tutt at Prestatyn, 1 for a crazy £500 1 for £250, about right i guess & 1 that a kid had bought for £60 the lucky b*st*rd You didn't say if the King Tutt was a 7" or a 12" If it's a 12" it's totally worthless along with the Family Of Eve & the Ike Strong but it's your lucky day as i'm feeling really generous so i'll give you a fiver each for them

Carstairs On Red Coach.how Do You Spot A Pink Boot
Good call Rob At least we now know where the dividing line is. Must admit that i did play this once & i got an overwhelming urge to wear a patch laden vest, a beer towel, baggie trousers, a pair of Clark's poly's that resembled Cornish pasties & to carry an empty holdall round with me that was clad in even more patches. Never been so scared in all my f****n life ................................................................................ ................................................................. Going off topic but do you know why they changed there name from the Carstairs to Universal Mind? Because car's don,t have stairs.... OK, i'm getting my coat......

Attention Yorkshire Promoters
Well i've been a right lazy sod in recent months & i haven't had a column in Manifesto for a while. I tried my best to dodge Mike Ritson at Prestatyn but to no avail so i promised him i'd get my column back up & running. Any Yorkshire promoters who want a free plug in May's mag just let me know on here or pm me if you like & i'll give you a mention in the mag but keep it brief for now with the details (example of my night below). Try & get the details to me before 10th of April so it give's me a bit of time to edit the details, don't forget folks outside Yorkshire might read it so no thee's & tha's! (might be tough for some of the Sheffield folks ). Who know's, i might even come along one night & do a full page review (bribes accepted!) Here's what i'm looking for. MODERNISM 3rd Friday monthly Bar 10 Wellgate Rotherham 8pm to 12-30 Admission £3 Playing 70s to present day releases Thanks, Martin "Cunnie" Dixon

Ron Hall & The Muthafunkaz - The Way You Love Me
Stunning record Just been remixed by Dimitri from Paris & Vincent Montana on Defected but i think it's only on the CD (remix of DJ Genisis on it as well & loads of other good stuff). Have a listen to the new mix on this link. https://www.defected.com/eflyer/dimitri/ Think Fish at First Experience Records should still have the original version (prefer the original too but the remix ain't bad) check his stall out at Prestatyn in the modern room. Your All Time Top Five
Don't normally do these top 5 things but i've just sent a profile off to Steve Cato's cool off site so here it is. Thing is i could change my mind next week on e'm all apart from King Tutt. All time top 10 (this is gonna be tough!) 1 King Tutt - You got me hung up (been my no 1 since the 1st time i heard Soul Sam play it at Leeds Central many years ago) 2 Bileo - You can win, (always brings me round when i'm feeling down) 3 Velvet Satins - Nothing can compere to you (proper northern, simple uptempo magic) 4 Jasper Street Company - Smile & Another day (cheating here, couldn't split e'm so i listed e'm both. top drawer soulful house with quality gospel vocals. If you don't know e'm check e'm out, you won't be sorry) 5 Ike Strong - Your love keeps me dancing (Northern, Modern, Disco, Funk? i dunno, bit of everything i guess. Only track in my top 10 that i ain't got so someone help me out please!) 6 The Incredibles - Crying heart (for gods sake why dosent this get played out more, awesome record & still cheap) 7 Ron Hall & the Muthafunkaz - The way you love me (What! a 2005 release in my all time top 10, just listen to it & i defy you not to dance. Point proven) 8 Darrel Banks - Open the door to your heart (Suprised? I think if your'e being honest with yourself this should be in everybody's top 10 somewhere, just an awesome slab of soul music) 9 The Pretenders - Just be yourself (See Bileo for description, best birthday present i ever recieved from my ex wife, guess she had her good sides!) 10 The Pages - Heartaches & pain (takes me back to Clifton Hall, so good to see it getting revived by guys like Butch)
