  1. I'm so done with this year. I mean he lived a long life, but still this is too much.
  2. I'm truly amazed at the amount of songs Van McCoy had a hand in creating. A lot I have never heard. I'm going to be checking out a lot of these early songs he did.
  3. I had a record delivered to me, but I didn't see it the day before when I got home. I got up early the next morning to get something out of the car ( had to be around 7:00am ) and the record was on the porch. I thought it was very odd that the record was there at that time as the mail don't run that early. I'm thinking the record went to a wrong address and I lucked out that maybe the person had a good heart and dropped it off late at night. I guess you have to be very careful ordering anything at this time of year and maybe wait until after New Year's to be on the safe side.
  4. That's awesome. I'm happy to hear that he still performs.
  5. Where did you see Willie Hightower perform at? That's a name that doesn't get enough recognition.
  6. Ron Isley. Surprise no one has mentioned him. Had one of the longest careers in music.
  7. Things are getting back to normal on my end. It's been a rough couple of months. We buried my sister last week after her long bout with cancer. She had a tumor in her back and it could nto be removed. She fought on for a few years. The good thing is that she is no longer in pain. Still hard to deal with. On the better side of things, my girlfriend started working again after her bout with bladder cancer. For those who remember, she had to had her bladder removed last September because of a growth that was on her bladder. They replaced the bladder with what they call a neo bladder. It's a procedure in which they take part of the large intestine and make a new bladder with it. It was a long recovery but about three weeks ago she started working where I work at. It has been a roller coaster ride for sure this past year. I started to play my records again after a couple of months. I always feel that my records are the best medicine for any stress. I can ease my mind now that I know my sister is no longer suffering and is resting peacefully. For all the passings from the well known to the more personal, Rest In Peace. Here is my recent batch of music I played. Hope you enjoy. 1. Can't Get You Off Of My Mind - Brothers Of Soul - Boo 2. What You To Know - Rotary Connection - Cadet 3. 8. Yeah, this caught my eye as well. This will be a must purchase for me.
  9. I first heard about Mr. Kelly's death while at work today. My girlfriend emailed me the news. My girlfriend was lucky enough to be a co-worker with Mr. Kelly at Sam's Club located not too far from where we live in Edison, NJ. He was real down to earth and always a pleasure to talk to. He was also low key, so I never got a chance to talk about his music career, as I respected his privacy. I would just quickly say hi and maybe chit chat about normal everyday things. I haven't had to chance to see him in recent months because of my girlfriend's bout with bladder cancer and her successful surgery to remove the cancer. We only saw him once after her surgery. He seem to be doing fine. If he was sick he did not show it. He always had a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

  13. Hello all. I hope all is well everyone. I'm doing a lot better now as my girlfriend's recovery from bladder cancer is going great. Her new bladder is working very well. Her doctors are impressed with her recovery. We even had a chance to go out this past weekend to a friend's birthday party. Everyone was happy to see her and told her how great she looks. It's a relief to sort of get back to normal living somewhat. She has some days that are better than others, but she is overall getting back to her old self. One of the reasons why I don't use Facebook or twitter. I hope that Jimmy Ruffin makes a full recovery. We don't need to lose anymore legends.
  15. Thank you all for the kind words. I showed the comments to my lady and she thanks you all.
  16. As I stated in the blog post, it's been a draining month for me. My girlfriend was diagnosed with bladder cancer and had to have the bladder removed. Thankfully it was caught in time and she doesn't need chemo. Also they was able to give her a new bladder by taking part of her large intestine and making what is called a neo bladder. Science has really come along way. The worst is over now. The recovery will be long, but once we get through this she should be good as new. I was able to finally relax this past weekend and record some music. Hope you enjoy. https://raggedy-quitefrankly.blogspot.com/2014/10/soultakers-treasure-chest-10-13-2014.html 1. 17. I guess I won't be getting my hands on it then. I got bills to pay and don't have $200 spend on a record. I have my limits. Love the song, but not enough to go bankrupt for it.
  18. The most i'm looking to spend is no more than $60 USD.
  19. John Moffatt beat me to it, but I was also wondering if this will be filmed for those of us that can not attend. Maybe a DVD of it with the proceeds going to the family and the Windy City Soul Club.
  20. Very sad. Condolences to his loved ones.

  23. Nice set list. I might just put this on later tonight along with dinner and some wine.
  24. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been going through some things around here for the last couple of weeks, but hopefully everything is on the up and up now. Along with the craziness of the world, it can put you in a foul mood. That's why I decided to pick out some good records to play. Just hit record on my cd burner and here we are. Hope everyone enjoys it. Also take a read at what Raggedy has been posting. One particular blog post she did back on August 12 on Levert Allison is a good read as it also takes time out to talk about dealing with depression and the early warning signs of it. 1. Intro 2. 25. I want to add Willie Hightower "Ž— If I Had A Hammer. I also agree with a couple of other posters that Willie Hutch - Soul Portrait is a classic.
