  1. While Mr Starr is front and centre this one needs a mention.
  2. And the 150-600mm was in hand waiting for my regular visitor to arrive.
  3. Whilst waiting for the skies to clear this morning I saw an airliner cross the disc of the Sun and then proceed to fly directly along the path of the shadow its contrails had cast on the thin clouds ahead and above it , never seen the like before. I didn't have time to rush indoors and grab a wide-angle lens so I rattled of a series of frames with the 150-600mm with the idea of creating a panoramic shot instead. Well hats off to the bods that came up with "Image Composite Editor" ... 😍 It stitched the 'shadow' shots from this morning effortlessly to give me the panoramic shot a wide-angle lens would have provided ... The Shadowmaker was this chap.
  4. At the very top of my personal tree going back to Keb and "Thrice" would be this piece of R&B magnificence. Sadly my "Session #1-Take #1" eight-inch acetate doesn't have "I'll be waiting" on t'other side but I can live with that ... 😏
  5. And I guess this masterpiece qualifies ... ?
  6. And in the bronze medal position is this beauty ...
  7. And a close second ... ❤️
  8. Has to be the top of the pile ...
  9. Makes no difference here , I shall wait to see what the final "upgrade" looks like before commenting further.
  10. Well if that's to be described as a major update I'm instantly unimpressed upon arriving just now. I absolutely hate the new appearance of the site , it now looks awful , sorry Guv. Can you at least tell us how to return the text to Black please if it's possible ?
  11. An awful lot over the years have reminded me of this magnificent piece of TV advertising ...
  12. You probably read it in the last post before this one ...
  13. I only image the photosphere (visible surface of the Sun) where flares and prominences etc are invisible to the human eye. To capture flares and other features in the chromosphere in the Hydrogen alpha wavelength requires a jump from a £20.00 filter to a piece of kit that costs a minimum of £1000.00 , it's a jump I intend taking one day but I'm still deciding on exactly which bit of kit to choose.
  14. "It" is an enormous active region or sunspot on our local star , the "limb" is edge of the visible disc of the Sun and "the other side" in this context is the limb on the left-hand side of the disc. The Sun rotates about once every 27 days and sometimes sunspots are big and strong enough to stay active for the 12 days or that elapse between them disappearing from view to them re-emerging again on the opposite side. Here's "it's" journey across the disc from 29th April to today scaled down to about 10% of original.
  15. One last clear view , tomorrow it will be rounding the limb. There's a slender chance it might hang on for another dozen days and reappear on the other side again.
  16. The enormous active region is fast rotating towards the limb and will be gone in a couple of days , here's how it looked this morning. For scale you could drop the Earth inside either of the darkest umbral areas ... !
  17. Care to elaborate ... ?
  18. Mr Manship's got one in the auction ending 21st May. https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction/soul-auction/soul-auction-ending-next-wednesday.html
  19. You can also unscrew the earphone and hide your powder in it a la The Vicar. I love that it mentions the combo of talc and whizz , I wonder what dodgy toe-rags they were getting their gear from having it cut with Johnson's ...
  20. A side by side comparison between the 3rd and 5th May showing the changes in the massive active region 14079. For an idea of the scale of this thing each of the individual convection cells in the image covers roughly the area of Texas meaning that from end to end the entire region is about ten Earth diameters across ... The cells really pop when the image is inverted.
  21. And neither had anything remotely to do with "Columbia Red Issues" ...
  22. Just had a lovely session on the Sun with a massive active region putting on a fine show at the moment , easily visible to the naked eye using eclipse glasses or other suitable protection such as a Shade 14 welder's mask. Shot with a Canon EOS 6D through a Skywatcher Evostar 150 and Baader ND3.8 Imaging film + Oiii + UV/IR Cut. Close-up through same 'scope using an Altair Astro 174MM.
  23. Rather harsh I must say ... ! Simon had merely isolated the vocal track from the bare bones demo version of INSLY to help possibly identify the as yet unknown singer , but now the post's been deleted we no longer have that opportunity ... Calling it a low quality post considering some of the other 'content' in the thread is 'interesting' to say the least.
  24. I love the look of the Susan Rewis on the red Rhodesian CBS label with the triangular centre as seen on Discogs , can't imagine why it got pressed/released over there.
  25. Google's a wonderful thing ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/306226419060
