  1. Condolances to his family and friends. Great chap, friendly to everyone even us 15 year olds that shouldn't have been there. Attendees of Oddfellows St.Ives and Peterborough all benefitted from his knowledge and The Fleet oldies room was the pre cursor to the RnB we have today. He worked at Charly records and gave me a few lps. Also re activated Ninas My Baby Just Cares before it was on an advert. Often seen at the Halcyon Peterborough before an all nighter. Absolute top bloke. Regards Mark
  2. Edwin Starr and Blinky We'll Find A Way from Just We Two LP. Like Chuck Jacksons Ain't No Sun and Gladys Knight Stranger all championed by Chris King at Hinkley in the 80s from LPs.
  3. Edwin Starr and Blinky We'll Find A Way from
  4. Lonnie Russ – Say Girl / Something For My Love A side a popular oldie everywhere The flip side popular at Oddfellows (Gary Rushbrooke)
  5. Praise the lord, hopefully the first Motown compilation (since Chris Kings 2 x Northern Motown) that is wholly aimed at the dancefloor and not the armchair. Some of the 7s boxset choices were to be listened to not danced to and hopefully this compilation will put things right. Licencing may have held back some wanted choices on the 7s sets but now there is even more from the vaults to come by the sounds of it. KTF
  6. Thank you for the heads up will check it out. KTF
  7. Thank you I can rest in peace! KTF
  8. Hi just going through oddfellows nighters and found one of my faves. Play the link I have here from a soundcloud playlist and at about 21 minutes left to go 25 minutes in it's the track after Lonely Lover. I think it was covered as Ann Perry and The Sherry's. Been trying to track it down since 1984! Many thanks https://www.mixcloud.com/mark-jones14/keb-darge-leicester-oddfellows-march-1984/
  9. Agree with you about 1978 onwards my brothers went before me but I didn't go til 1980. Myself and Chris [brother] always went from main room to second room depending on line up times but a lot of people literally walked in and straight out.
  10. Going to The Fleet tonight see you there?
  11. I came 2nd and got a Motown lp from Brian. Johnny Cockrell won Supremes My World Is Empty Tamla Motown demo Fleet oldies room always open from 1980 onwards.
  12. Could be The Fleet where Brian Rae was often playing rare RnB for 2 hours. Whilst everyone else was heading for newies. Other Djs played in there too often playing stuff before trying them in the main room. Brian Rae well ahead of everyone and pretty sure other Djs went in there and picked up tracks from Brian in that Fleet oldies room.
  13. Green onions modern take with vocal By Odd Fellows Soul in Soul Music News Side two of this Original Gravity release has a vocal over a modern take of Green Onions. Both sides good Mod/Soul. Other releases to check out are Néstor Alvarez Para Que? and Luchito Vacillon/Broasted or Toasted - all 3 on Original Gravity. https://originalgravityrecords.bandcamp.com/album/find-myself-another-man
  14. Lonnie Russ Say Girl / Something For My Love Kerwood
  15. I don't go to many events but wondered if this David Ruffin track gets playlisted by any djs. It's atop tune and a perfect candidate for that crossover track that seems so popular. It was released legit as an lp track on the David Ruffin previously unreleased Motown album set.
