  1. Jimi and 'Trane - chips off the same block
  2. I never take notice of the general public!! Yesterday I heard Joss Stone on Andrew Marr talking about re-visiting the Soul Sessions - she chose to perform 'Teardrops' because she thought we would know as it was the only song she knew from those picked for her!! She was bloody awful. A quick glance on Amazon showed the first volume for sale for 1p !! that's the general public for you
  3. Great compilation - got mine given years ago so sadly not too clean - name written on the back and so on. Always loved those 60's comps
  4. Well I wouldn't say a 'fuss' Tony. I know saying 'I really enjoyed them' could be construed as 'a fuss' from someone from the North East ..... but a change is as good as a rest. It is nice to hear some good live music from time to time. Don't suppose I'll be listening to them in 20 years but I'll have a listen and enjoy them for now. Mike
  5. They were on Jools Holland a few weeks back - really enjoyed them - thought they might of been touring but I think they flew in with Jack White with whom they were touring in the US. It was a particularly good show that night - think Norah Jones was on too. Look out for these too - supporting Dr John at Newcastle shortly - Mike
  6. You are not wrong Sean (you rarely are ). Paid for an album on Tuesday, posted Wednesday, here today (Friday) Mike
  7. Wanted nice clean copy of this. Excellent to Mint - Tony Borders - Promise to Myself - Quinvy 45 Please PM with total cost, thanks Mike
  8. Make sure every post you make from now on is grammatically correct and free of spelling mistakes .... you silly old prat!!!
  9. I do have a bit of a chuckle about all this talk of 'The Scene' and young blood and the likes - when I was 18 I would not of went within a 100 miles of the Casino, Mecca and Cleethorpes and the like if 90% of the people there were older than my dad!! You silly old duffers!!
  10. What is the title of the record?
  11. He can always come back with another pop at them which he would not of been able to do had he undersold them . They are his records so he can do what he likes with them as long as he does not come here complaining that he can't sell them !
  12. My money is on Tony - can't believe Sam was buying new releases like this back then - especially obscure stuff like that - his taste even 5 years later on was appalling. It was a long time before he 're-invented' himself to be a lover of all things modern :o)
  13. Of course by the time Paul Thompson ( and the blue Volts) were getting released Stax no longer had the Redding, Sam & Dave et al catalog as Wexler and Co at Atlantic had had away with it !!! Stax had to diversify and took the label in all directions hence the bought in Detrioit stuff and the like. And ultimately the influx of gangsters which eventually ruined and killed the label. So post Atlantic I'm not sure they ever had an established roster to compare to the glory days of the 60's. IMHO. Mike
  14. Fantastic set - have to have it! Just out of interest The Fantastic Violinaires I m Not Worried is also on 45 - wonderful track!
  15. Bob nails it once again
  16. I was at the London show of Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. I have always attended all the Blues shows I can in the North East - Robert Cray at the Kirk (as well as Lowell Fulson and Louisiana Red). Joe Louis Walker and Sherman Robertson amongst others at Harveys in Stockton. Whilst I did not travel to Switzerland I saw Henry Gray upstairs in The Central in Middlesbrough. What does someone who likes Soul and Blues look like? how can you tell?

Hello Tony I know Ian L attempted to contact her for his SWONS project and I re-posted it on here his previous posting about this on his old ANS site . Yes, sounds like another very sad tale. ..........this is Ian's posting again... I tracked down Creative Funk label owner Deke DeBerry. He's now living in Carolina. His brother Gary DeBerry still lives in New York, and was the bass player in Creative Funk. Back in 1976, Sheila Hart and I went with them all to an open air concert upstate New York for radio station WLIB. diane jenkins performed with Creative Funk, and I got introduced to the audience. It was what was called a "Picnic In The Park". We'd made "Tow Away Zone" such an underground hit at Blackpool Mecca and the Northern Soul scene, that they'd asked me to explain what sound we were into, and so "I Need You" was born, as an attempt to create something that the Northern Soul Scene would also like. Anyway, forward to 1999. We were desperately trying to find diane for the "Strange World Of Northern Soul". Gary DeBerry tracked her down to a block of flats in Brooklyn and got her phone number. But she wouldn't return any messages. He said he'd heard she was a bit of a junkie, but didn't know if this was true or not. In the end, he went over to Brooklyn twice, but couldn't get her to even answer the door. I left many pleading messages on her answer phone, but to no avail. As I said...... The 'True Pages Of Life' is the obvious 'unreleased' track from the label. Got a play (and a mention in Black Music) by Ian Levine. That acetate is still kicking about and I think the track got included on a Goldmine CD. Paul Mooney has some tapes from Creative Funk sessions but I don't think anything has jumped out from them. Towaway Zone remains one of my favourites also. Mike
  19. Don't worry, it sounds perfectly OK on 33 (LP) and as a bonus, has some other tunes too! It is not a bad thing to be LP only.
  20. Always liked this instrumental version.... poppy like Call Me too..
  21. It would be good if you could use a full stop now and then !!
  22. I thought the first post the seller put up on here mentioned and included a link to ebay - you included a link to this posting in your original post ? Mike
  23. If you don't think it is fair on people who have put bids in already you should refrain form making an offer outside of the ebay auction. And if you still want it, bid on it yourself on ebay - personally I would put snipe in with what i would be happy to pay and hope for the best. If it then got pulled I think you would be justified in complaining but not if you go along with the 'alternative' auction outside of ebay. IMHO. Mike
  24. I always read Gareth's posts with great interest and did enjoy the one you refer to the other day.
  25. Sorry Steve but I said .......' I don't think I have read' ...with I being operative word i.e My opinion , how can you question that? As it happens I absolutely agree with everything Bob said, just wish I could of put it in such a succinct way (and got away with saying it). and to prove things are a matter of opinion one of the posts you quote 'as better', contained one of the most ridiculous statements I have read on here in a very long time!! Mike
