  1. Keith Minshull has beena regular at all of these, for certain

Could it be "Who could be loving you", on Soul City?
  3. I've just found a reference to a 4 track EP put out by Gusto in 2008, including "The matador". You can hear a preview in iTunes - I'm sure it's this version. Nick
  4. It sounds as though it was done at the same session as the Gusto 45 with remakes of "Um, um, um" and "Monkey time", issued in 1979
  5. Not a very high proportion of soul among all the other stuff, but of a very high standard. A few of my favourites...

Don't forget Billy Eckstine's version on Stax. Smooth!
  7. I just bought a demo of this, and it has "Baby I'm yours" crossed out and "Another lonely Saturday" written in. Love to know who did this. There's also a version (titled "Baby I'm yours" by Benice Swanson, on Chess. I've had the BS and DDW for decades, but I prefer the Olympics
  8. I remember seeing this on a "Vinyl Junkie" list in the late 70s, put out, I believe, by Ian Dewhirst. His enthusiastic descriptions of both Paul Kendrick and Darlene Love led me to buy them both blind - glad I did. thanks Ian. Nick
  9. A friend of mine asked me to help her dispose of some of her late husband's music-relayed items. She has a large quantity of magazines which she'd like to sell in one go, and wants offers. There's more than 500 soul magazines, including 16 of the first 20 Blues & Soul, a couple of Home of the Blues, and most of the 70s titles. There's also around 150 rock'n'roll/doo-wop/instrumental/pop mags, and about 20 disgographies. If you'd like a full listing, please PM me with your email address, and I'll send them on a Word document. Cheers Nick
  10. I've got an old 60s record catalogue that lists a title by Sam Dees on Major Minor. I'm fairly sure this is a mistake - unless anyone know different. Nick
  11. Anyone mentioned the R&B label yet? There were a few decent things on this label.
  12. Calla distributed Mayfield, so I guess "Girls are out to get you" would qualify. Was Bunky distributed by Calla?
  13. Thanks for that Dave. Still working on a listing, but I'll definitely let you have it when it's done - I'd much rather they go to genuine enthusiasts than general dealers.

The first time I ever went to Yate, as I walked in they were playing George Benson's version of "Love ballad".
  15. Thanks for those suggestions, folks. I hadn't thought of Mr T, great idea, and I agree I should try JM too. Any other thoughts anyone?
  16. Does anyone know of any dealers who handle soul magazines and books? I'm trying to help a friend to deal with some of her late husband's collection of music-related items, and she has a load of quality magazines and books. The mags include 60s titles such as "Home of the Blues", very early "Blues and Soul", 70s fanzines like "Soul Symbol", "Deeper and deeper" and "Souled out", the French mag "Soul Bag", and a load of doo-wop/rock'n'roll mags including "Who put the bomp", "Time Barrier Express" and "Rumble". I'd have them myself but I've been banned from bringing any more mags home! Are there any dealers anyone knows of who'd be interested in this sort of stuff? Thanks in anticipation Nick
  17. Thanks Matt. A quick Google search tells me it's the flip of "Make me the woman you go home to" on Soul, but the UK copy I have has a different flip. Guess that's why I missed it.
  18. I've just played Ann Sexton's "It's all over but the shouting" on 77, and noticed that it has Motown composer & publishing credits. Made me wonder if there are any Motown versions. Anyone know? Cheers Nick
  19. Yes Rick, it's the same Artie Fullilove. I have 2 other versions of "Are you ready for this" - Jay & the Techniques, on Smash, and Bill Deal & the Rhondells, on UK MGM (I think the US label was Heritage)
  20. Chip Tyler's cover of "If you ask me" has the same B-side, but it's titled "I love you Yvonne".
  21. Very good question, Taffy, but I'm afraid I've no idea. I wonder if any if the missing ones I've been looking for exist as demos only?
  22. They're lovely items, aren't they, especially when they come with the jukebox inserts. I have a few by the Impressions, but not this one. I imagine there was one for each US Impressions LP, unless anyone know different?
  23. Cheers Jimmy - likewise the ABC discog I found on the net. I wonder if it was a planned release that got pulled? I guess I need a new quest for 2012.
  24. That's interesting Robb. I have a few of the jukebox EPs, but not with these titles. Do you have any further details? Cheers Nick
  25. You're right Bob, they're a real pain. This site lists the 2 45s that probably don't exist https://www.globaldogproductions.info/a/abc-paramount.html and shows the regular combination "I can't stay away from you/You ought to be in Heaven" There doesn't seem to be any way of proving something doesn't exist, but I guess I should just accept that I'm unlikely to be the proud owner of any of these.
