As far as I know it was a uk only release. Came out as a single first on Mowest in 73 MW3009 seem to remember it being played at Wigan even though it was a new release, although I could be wrong. My old friend John Clement has a better memory than me. Thelma Houston I ain't going nowhere was played at Wigan as an album track and that was a current release.
Dave Love - Baby Hard Times..... more of a dooh dooh do...... definitely played at the Mecca
Billy Woods - Let me make you happy? don't know where that was played
I know this isn't answering the question but Jnr Walker's track "Nothing but Soul" on the flip of How Sweet it is ......is exactly that, Nothing but soul!

Apologies if this has been put up somewhere else or it's in the wrong section.

My daughter's school is laden with Gola type school bags with "Northern Soul" clenched fist logos on them. It has become a bit of a must have fashion item but I don't think there is any connection between them and the northern soul scene.

I have three Motown albums issued by the BBC featuring different artists. Last Sunday Richard Searling played the Detroit Spinners - "What more could a boy ask for", a different version, off one of these albums. Incidentally, not one of the three I have. After the show I went through my three to check if there were any different versions on them and lo and behold "Brenda Holloway - Just look what you've done" is different to the 45.
My question is: Does anyone know how many of these BBC Motown albums there are? seems they came out around 1986/87 and I now want the one featuring the Spinners.

Although I was living up north, my first experience of what I would refer to as northern soul was at the Compass Club in Torquay in 1971 , my first holiday with the lads, when I was 18.
They weren't playing just northern soul, but I realise now, they were slipping them in here and there. I came away wanting
Jackie Wilson - Nothing But Blue Skies
Stairsteps - Stay Close To Me
Chuck Wood - Seven Days Too Long
Flamingos - Boogaloo Party
Olympics - Baby Do The Philly Dog
So it wasn't all up north!

Have been collecting since1969. Have a broad collection of northern, deep, 70's, funk, jazz, blues and have many tracks in every format from 45, album track, cd, mp3 and now spotify. It isn't about the value I just love the music.
I once used an iron with a tea towel when I was about 15. Got rid of the warp but melted the grooves together and made the record elliptical, so I wouldn't recommend that!
