  1. What a woman really needs - donny hathaway - atlantic How did this not get a release - So soulful
  2. I ain't that easy to lose - bettye swann - atlantic Same as Thelma Houston but a great version nonetheless (previously unreleased)
  3. I've also been down that road with workmates and it is a waste of time. Unless they are fed the music through Radio 1/2 or MTV they couldn't care less. I was asked the other day when the Weather Girls - "Its raining men" came on the radio, if it was my type of music. They think that if it is pre 1990 and the artist is black then it's my type of music. Grrrrrrrrrr
  4. You Got me lovin you again - eloise laws - invictus Try again this time it is actually Eloise Laws and not David Ruffin - Bad Bad Weather(till you come home)
  5. You got me lovin you again - eloise laws - invictus Not sure if this ever came out as a 45 but brilliant nonetheless

  7. This Poor heart of mine - marvin gaye & tammi terrell - tamla Same song as Marvelettes "Only your love can save me" with slight variation to the lyrics but what a belter - deserves to get played out - from the "Easy" album
  8. I am just about to renew my buildings and contents insurance and just wondered if I should specify all of my vinyl or just specific records. Do normal contents policies cover record collections in any event provided you have enough overall cover in value. Has anyone ever claimed Kev

  12. Sean, Any chance of a soundclip on Jerry Butler, don't know that one Kev
  13. From the moment I started collecting in 1968 I've always played both sides of a record but overlooked some stuff at the time, probably because it wasn't fast enough. The added bonus is of course your taste does change a bit - Stevie Wonder - "I'd be a fool right now" is a prime example. Great thread I agree with all the above and here's some more TMG555 Isley Brothers - There's no love left - also a good version by the Four Tops TMG557 Temptations - Fading Away TMG 571 Jnr Walker - Nothing but soul TMG894 - Jnr Walker - I ain't going nowhere TMG 578 Temptations You're not an ordinary girl TMG608 Brenda Holloway - Starting the hurt all over again TMG 626 - Stevie Wonder - Every time I see you I go wild TMG717 - Stevie Wonder - I'd be a fool right now TMG725 - Edwin Starr - Running Back & Forth TMG875 - Edwin Starr - Love the lonely peoples prayer TMG729 - Chuck Jackson - What am I gonna do without your love TMG584 - Miracles - Save me TMG1093 - David Ruffin - Rode by the place we used to stay

Marisa, Gloria Towanda Barnes (sometimes spelt "Tiwanda") doesn't have a cd to my knowledge Her version of "You don't mean it" on A&M as a 45 is different to the version on her album on Maple called "Gloria Barnes - Uptown ( I personally prefer the album version). Her version of "I gotta get away" on the flip of the "Love slipped through my fingers" that was pressed up on Jo-Mar is also different to the album version on Maple. 18. I have a red one and always thought the blue was just a different pressing plant, but having seen both, think the blue one looks more authentic and if I had to choose I would say the blue is first issue and would go by John Manship
  19. Whilst in Greece in 1984 I used to hear a version of Amy Stewart - Friends in a bar. It was a totally different version than what came out in the UK in 7" or 12" but it had a long piano instrumental break in the middle that at the time I was convinced was Ramsey Lewis. Can anyone throw any light on this version please Kev
  20. Yep, its our Amy alright. What I love the most about this new album "Back to Black" is the way they have re-created the 60's sound, and kept it really simple try this track as well. She has used "Ain't no mountain high enough" as the basis for the backing and done a good job of copying the Funk Brothers original. Don't try to compare the two songs because she isn't trying to mimic, just judge it in it's own right. Kev 07_Track_7.mp3
  21. Is that Mary's daughter? Close enough!
  22. Just got this yesterday and absolutely loved it Is it soulful or what - Anyone guess who it is!! Kev 06_Track_6.mp3
  23. Also jumped the gun and didn't read the question properly Kev
  24. Don't think it was, but I am at work and can't check my facts until I get home, but I think it is a male group
  25. Always been a big fan of Amy and this is fantastic -already ordered the album which is due out in October - those shoes must be her "F**k me pumps" that she sings about, love it.
