has been played quite a bit on the mod scene. I bought it for that side, wasn't bothered at all about 'try my love', and still not. we play it the Pow wow club (Sheffield april 19th )
-
will pay £150-£200 for a good copy of HARVEY LANTZ 'LITTLE BOY BLUE' on G & J or KIRKS, which I think is the first issue, so maybe a bit more. cheers, mik recordmik@btinternet.com

not read all the posts so sorry if someone has answered already. that is 'i've got a feeling i'm falling' by...Connie Francis. Another great popcorn one by her is 'Come On jerry' The popular popcorn version of 'I've got a feeling Im falling' is by Jesse Pearson. IMO the ultimate record that is popcorn tempo but definitely soul is Johnny Barnes - 'Nothing without your love' on Jato. I'll list some more suggestions when i get a minute.
-
yeah me too, i like stuff like the Peggy king to listen to, but wouldn't play it out, probably why i never bought it. The CD should just be bought anyway, the unreleased tracks are the best ones, fantastic work 7 that Luther Ingram just gets better every time i hear it (not had the luixury of hearing it out regularly like you southerners )
-
just thought id bump this with some info on one of the tracks as it says in the sleeve notes that not much is known - Track 12 'tumbling down'. i know of another version by Peggy King on Roulette 4327. dont have it but know it's called 'up up up (flying high). Might help with tracing the songwriter or whatever info was missing. GREAT CD BY THE WAY!! so nice to have Luther, Big Ben etc at last after just hearing them out and i love that Gladys Bruce, any plans to put that on 45? cheers, mik. (soundfile below)

Joyce Taylor Also Ring Leaders Plus More
pow wow mik replied to Paul Shirley's topic in Record Wants
I have a spare ~Joyce Taylor, was looking for £200. recordmik@btinternet.com -
I think all these scenes are doomed to enjoy the most knowledge and best music long after the peak (in terms of popularity, atmosphere etc.) is over. But that depends on what your best times depend on. I reckon i have as much of a laugh when I go out as any mod in 1964, or soulie at wigan in 1975 etc. so who cares? Would be nice to experience a scene in it's prime though. I guess i did with that whole house scene though and i dont remember nights out as being better than now.
-
i'll have a listen to the 'better days ahead' when i get a minute, might let it go. Posted 'what a mess' below, sorry not the best quality sound file though.
-
list updated and 4 more soundfiles added. thanks
-
sorry, not to do with the Bobby adams, although I do have a copy I dont seem to play ever, what's it worth? (his best track is 'What a mess' imo), & agree, 'dont you feel it' is great too, just sold a spare... 'Bury Me deep' is by Chance Hallyday on Bulldog.
-
i think around £250-£300 is right considering the amount of copies around, and i can't see it getting bigger than it is now. a great but quirky sound and likely at least some more will show up. At £400 i think it would stick even at Manship.
-
two fantastic tracks, i have an erect 12" but think i have a spare 12 on Acid Jazz with both sides - a tenner if anyone wants it.
-
great to know. but do you ever play it if requested due to you having it in your box because you play the other side?
-
because you like one side of it, but hate the other - maybe the one that's better known, as described in the original post. This would apply to me with Troy Dodds. I play 'the real thing' but wouldn't play 'try my love' under any circumstances, I know it's well liked sorry, just not by me. Same with Tobi Lark 'sweep it out' and Little Nicky soul 'i wanted top tell you'...I would never play the sides that first got these records attention.

A true genius. Really surprised to learn he lived untill 1968 - i always assumed he died early 60s because i never heard any later material by him. Obviously his 50s - early 60s stuff is amazing and well known, but what was he doing mid-late 60s? you'd have thought a talent of his calibre would have made a few mid 60s killers at least in the style of that era. it's like he just stopped recording in 1962. Would love to hear his 1968 stuff. My favourite at the moment = 'it only hurts for a little while' After a copy of 'i'm shakin' if anyone has one. had it few times but need it again to play with a newie, not with the over-dubbed drums though.

i think the problem with this is that while it may raise Bobby Bland's profile, it will also drastically reduce his credibility - which may be a more valuable asset. It's like having your music featured on Alan Partridge's radio show. at least when an old track is sampled or covered by hip hop / dance artists it retains the credibility of the older artist that they deserve. Projects like this just push vintage soul further into Radio 2's Sunshine Pastures Retirement home for easy listening music. Which isn't where it wants to be, seeing as these artists were mostly cooler, badder and hipper than most radio 1 'yoof' artists. And frankly, Mick Hucknall is a right cock. Didn't he once say he identified with the plight of black people in america, and therefore soul music, because he had ginger hair? if he didn't, i'm happy to start that rumour.

...'fucking old hat, there's so much underplayed stuff out there' ...
-
I know what i want playing at mine, but it's a cover-up sorry so can't say . I think whatever you chose, you'd still get a load of people moaning on the way out: 'fucking rock & roll', 'fucking northern', 'fucking popcorn', fucking 70s' etc etc...
-
I got one a few weeks ago but think it's very rare, not ever seen another. I'd possibly trade for the right thing, not sure yet, want to play it for couple months i think.
-
our Gav ended up with your copy of the hawg then i think! always gets a play at pow wow. he's got the prince Conley too - great record, would like one of those.

Mike Pedicin - Burndt Toast And Black Coffee Wanted
pow wow mik replied to Lazy's topic in Record Wants
it'as unlikely you'd have the boot if you've had it a while. It's one of the recent ones being custom made to sell to mad people, along with Tiny Topsy, Joanne Henderson and unfortunately, Ray Rivera. -
more primate-r&b than pork-r&b, but his 'monkey tonight' on King is great too, mellower though.
-
got this couple weeks ago, think you'll be lucky to get it for £250, been in demand in Belgium for years and I looked for about 6 years for it, and when i first heard it from Michel Scarpone it was £300 then. deep and unique, just how i like it. faster than on most soundfiles as the belgians slow it down, played it twice out already and it's gone down great. i do love living in a time and place where you can play stuff like this to a full dancefloor
