  1. Feel like buying the other one myself it's so good! Pete S, I dont know why you feel you have to be so vocal about every record that's mentioned that you dont like. I don't like a lot of stuff that gets posted up or played but don't post just to say I dont like it, it's kind of irrelevant and negative. The fact is, this record absolutely rocks the dance and a lot of people with good taste like it. If it's not your taste, just ignore it. And to call it 'average pop gospel' is just insulting and says more about you than it does about the record.
  2. that version of Troubles Troubles on the sound file isn't the Ray Rivera version is it? It's a different singer or ray rivera slowed down. Fucking impossible the ray rivera anyway, I'd pay serious money for it but some just aren't there to buy.
  3. Soulsmen 'its hard but its fair' (juggy) £175 Rollers 'troubles' (bel-star) £150 Ram Jam Holder 'my friend jones' (Colombia UK) £100 Ray Johnson - dizzy miss lizzy (Liberty) £75 Sugar & sweet - hands out my pockets ( foremost) £250 immiediate cash / paypal / trades recordmik@btinternet.com
  4. I just judge stuff first by my own taste and then by the reaction of the audiences i play to, where this fills the dancefloor more than established classics. But I dont play at Northern do's so know nor care how it would go down at them or to lovers of that traditional northern sound, one of which i am not. But this is 'soul' source, not 'northern soul' source isn't it? The chord changes that make it 'similar' to Wade In The Water are just R&B chord changes which most minor key R&B tracks have, i can't see any other simularity, and it seems a bit simplistic to make the comparison. By the way, you're the first person I've ever heard say this is an average record.
  5. that's where i first heard it cheers mate! See why, but it's a a shame to cut it before the end. it's all about the end, he just grooves along like it's going nowhere then after that brass break it kicks back in a big way and then goes up another level after that. It's a good tune till the middle 8 break but the ending makes it a great tune.
  6. Marie Knight is definitely a popcorn tempo sound, cant remember the others although i've heard them. They were playing Sam Fletcher in Belgium in the 70s, definitely a popcorn tempo. The example above is popcorn tempo, but i dont know if they play it. Popcorn's like Northern soul, it's more about dance tempo and sound than any particular style. Particular collectors / dealers might describe something as popcorn even though it's never been played on that scene, often because it's shit. just as you see records described as northern that have never actually been played, or aren't any more, because they're shit.
  7. one of the best records ever imo, I'm the lucky twat with the other one and i swear you could play it in a rave or wedding or anywhere and it would rock the dance. I love records that anyone would like whatever they're into, a masterpiece, anyone interested in a copy can try and pull it out of my dead hand. (and i'll put a 5 grand contract on anyone who boots it!)
  8. i wouldn't feel comfortable playing a track that had had a 45 release, however rare, off an LP, especially as a guest, Johnny Taylor for example. not cool is it?. And LP only tracks now, I'd rather get 45s made, mastered nice and loud.
  9. it's definitely Morine, great record and hard to find, reckon it's an eddie Bo production. Your not having mine though! I'll think about selling the Allan knight though and let you know if i want to.
  10. for any r&b fans: playing a top record by her at the moment, made to promote a diner in la or Las vegas or somewhere! i think the backing track is from something else with her singing about sandwhiches over dubbed! rocks the r&b dance though! will post below sorry can't post, says artist/title/label are required even though they were filled in.
  11. Great songs are great songs, but generally i like well produced & arranged R&B in all it's styles, 60s soul with an R&b influence, meloncholy deep, southern and crossover soul and funky 70s to modern soul. Strangely, the majority of 60s uptempo northern doesn't do that much for me, but those that i like i really like. sorry
  12. I played it at hedensford allnighter on Saturday, belting tune. Is there any differences between the 'right' and 'wrong' (definitely 'wrong', the tommy Andre is terrible!) pressings to look at? and any idea what % are miss-presses?
  13. I've a mint Eddie Bo 'from this day on' £50 if you want one, cheers recordmik@btinternet.com
  14. untuil you find the billy hamlin anyway
  15. I can't believe a simple record request has lowered people to whoring themselves out! But seeing as it has...next time you're in England mate, give us a bell...my rusty sherrif's badge isn't on offer you'll be glad to know, but anything else, you name it, I can fix it
  16. that's the thing, it's not worth that, who knows what it's worth'? but I'll pay that cos i want it and because I'd rather have it, for the same money, than a garden shed
  17. cheeky fucker. I'll always offer pretty much what I think a record is worth, even if the seller doesn't know. i don't want them finding out after and thinking I'm a con man. $75 - more like 10 times that.
  18. do you think Bob would swap his for a kidney? did you get one nashee?
  19. Billy hamlin - If you aint got no bread, you might as well stay home in bed (bethlehem) yes, I know it's rare as nodding-dogshit and a lot of people want it, but i'll pay more than them, - if anyone can suggest a value feel free, but i'm assuming it's quite a lot! neeeed it though! cheers pm or recordmik@btinternet.com
  20. also came out with a pic sleeve, think they're all original though. can't see why it'd be booted as its not rare. Unless it's really rare and they're all boots! great tune anyway
  21. i paid a ton for it a couple years ago, so it'd better be worth that at least! In fact i know a few people who's probably pay around that for it
  22. Great club tune I'd never heard before untill i saw it on Manship's auction. Sounds like a later version of 'Baby you hit the spot', also by the Chevelles (with Gloria Taylor (?) properly singing), also on Flaming Arrow. That one's quite common and cheap, and a bit under rated I think.
  23. aye, 'the creator' wasn't it? Oh no, that was Eddie Bo 'from this day on'. Do you know what Pete Rock track sampled 'my generation'?
  24. ggggggnnnnnn  went on weekend bender and forgot to put snipe on Francis Faye's version of Comin Home Baby on Audio Fidelity. Obviously this has made me want it even more! It went for about £60, I'll pay £100. Also, if anyone has Ernie Hines 'Our Generation' on We Produce on 45 I would like one. Not sure of value, as it's a not especially in demand funk track that's easy on LP, but maybe some stax completists or something might part with it for £40 or something. cheers. PM or e-mail recordmik@btinternet.com
  25. I dont think it being really common and being slightly reminicent of 'lady marmalade' did it any favours!
