What about Burnley Mecca
Sorry when I started this post I should have said mid 60s The building was the same in the 70s but branding was different. I would presume there was a smattering of Motown together with chart music of the day during that period. To be fair Mecca on a Saturday night in the 60s would be the same. Sunday night was the Soul Night, playing fantastic tunes from the Stax, Atlantic, Direction and Bell labels to name a few. Pete Roberts at 'today's ' Wheel in Manchester still creates a fantastic atmosphere playing this sort of music. I love Northern. However, if anyone knows of any venues still playing this wonderful 60s Soul, I would love to hear from you.

Sorry when I started the post I should have said mid 60s. Building is the same as 70s but obviously different branding . We never went then but I would imagine that apart from a smattering of Motown it would play a lot chart music of the day. But to be far so would Mecca on Saturday night in the 60s. Sunday nights were soul nights playing Motown, Stax, Atlantic, Direction and Bell, just to name a few labels. The nearest thing these days is 'today's Wheel in Manchester where Pete Roberts still captures the atmosphere of the day and still plays this incredible music. I love Northern but if anyone out there can point me in the direction of clubs still playing the this 60s soul, I would be very interested to hear. Paul

What about Burnley Mecca
After further discussion we have come up with Lynn Duckworth's friends - Gill Sharpe and Kay Brown Apologies if you girls are out there and we haven't got the names quite right. Roburt, you know your clubs. We knew Manchester and Blackpool but being from the Midlands generally frequented less well know clubs in our own area. I did visit the Jacaranda in Liverpool as a teenager back in my 'pre soul days', where many top groups played live on their way up.

DJ's day Jobs
I could list lots of fantastic Soul events at every level. Teddington down south - very small but as good as any major venue But It's as the starter of the forum asked' do these DJs need day jobs?'
-
DJ's day Jobs
Kev Roberts Event Promoter and Radio DJ Most 'name' DJs from the Kings Hall, Blackpool and the like don't have to worry Probably next division - Rugby and Nuneaton etc do OK DJs doing Northern nights at the local clubs (even if they're regular) I would guess is a different story.

All-nighter entrance fees
Well said Andy ''''Club acts' playing 'Northern & Motown' covers have little appeal for us - just doesn't stack up against the genuine article .''' I said as much re: Motown the Musical in a previous forum
-
All-nighter entrance fees
All events on Soul Source and Gold Soul represent excellent value, whether they are £5 or £40. When you think what you can pay to see an artist or band ( non Northern) and come away unfulfilled. Northern prices can't be beaten.
