  1. I sort of agree, alot of the suggestions to me are blue eyed soul , what I would call Carolina Soul almost beach music. But I'm not being ungrateful for the suggestions but I personally ( my own interpretations ) was trying to get across is garage music almost with a touch of rock music ( yes guitars) which is why I quoted The Seeds and The Innkeepers. And sounds like this that Keb often plays. I know The Nomads, Vondells, Embers etc are blue eyed/carolina soul in my eyes not garage . I trust I haven't upset anyone in this woke society with my personal views
  2. Thank you, that is why I did a search but nothing popped up.. if anyone else can help with a link I would appreciate it.
  3. If this has been done before I apologise as I did do a search before posting this.. As our scene has crossed paths with many different music genres from r&b, Latin soul, beach music etc.. How much of it has come from the Garage scene? I know we had the seeds pushing too hard and gypsy drywell, innkeepers never should have done it.. Forest fire on main street, covered as lord Sitar and the Baltimore marching band.. I know Keb used to slip one or two in but my memory isn't what it was ๐Ÿฅฒ So would appreciate any help Mick
  4. Only one word... WOW. Hopefully this won't bore anyone reading this, my Dad was born 1918 and having been conscripted in the 2nd world war as a Military Police Man he landed in Normandy on June 7th, D DAY plus one. He spent the next 4 years in Europe and because of what he saw and did he said so very little. If it wasn't for my Mother I wouldn't have known that he was one of the people who liberated Belson Bergen. But of the the few things he told me, lol like guarding a distillery of Calvados in France.. I always remember him describing seeing coloured lights in the sky (don't know where in Europe he was at the time) But he and his friends were dumbstruck as they had no idea what they were seeing, they even thought they were something Hitler had invented.!!!! Although now with Internet etc we all know about the northern lights...
  5. Finding all of this really interesting, thanks for posting. Learning new stuff every day. Have an old celestrion astromaster to look at moon and planets but really interesting about the Sun especially the size of it , it's almost hard to comprehend.. thanks again

  10. I know these aren't Wigan instrumentals but still enjoy listening to Detroit strings in the pocket and lord Sitar and the Baltimore marching band ( can't remember what name Gary Rushbrooke introduced it as ? ) We now know as Forest fire on main street, by Gasoline powered clock. Big oddfellows and Stafford instrumentals
  11. They were especially as they seemed to be collected from the chemist's on the way to a niter... prescription obviously ๐Ÿ™„
  12. I still like instrumentals, can never remember the words though. ๐Ÿค”
  13. So so sad met Ted mid 80s and again when I got back into the scene after my divorce.. I will always remember him firstly for playing requests for my Son Kevin as he got into the scene and also sounds I pressured him to play with Ted having dance floor doubts.. 1st the traditions twinkle little star and little Willie faulks look into my heart at a nighter in Kettering which both filled the floor, thank you Ted x But for me the best memory is of my first spot in the back room of rugby and I dedicated my copy of Mac Staten to Ted and he threatened to hit me with his walking stick and run off with my copy... Will miss you Ted thanks for being a great bloke, great dj and a great gardener. Love and prayers to your family and friends. Mick and Kevin x x x
  14. I totally agree. My 1st niter as a 15 year old was 1980, I'm now 60 and all my peers and artists are a lot older and of course we will lose them, it's so so sad and painful ๐Ÿ˜’ but it is what life is ๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ช But the most important thing is that we have lived and danced that music and we will remember it always and take it to our own graves. Sadly I know but truthful x x
  15. I've wanted a pages for ages. Gave up at 500.. can't believe the final price..
  16. And get all us unfit soulie pensioners fit and healthy, maybe if she did this she would get paid by national health service ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ™„ and dwp ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
  17. Wow I'm gobsmacked I love to watch a busy dancefloor with everyone doing their own moves but all in time with the beat and tempo changes etc. Surely if this is the new thing northern soul line dancing will be the next thing. ๐Ÿ˜

Please stay strong and enjoy life as much as possible.. as we get older we all have things to get through . I'm lucky no prostate problems . But diagnosed with acute heart failure.. I wish you all the best wishes I can. But I think we have to remember that we are all getting older and our health is not what it was.. but in our minds we are still in our teens / 20's ๐Ÿ˜†. I went to my 1st niter in may 1980 I was 15 . And have had 45 years of fun.. I will go to my grave with northern in my ears ๐Ÿ‘‚ Do I regret a Moment... never!!! northern has been my life along with my twin son's Please stay positive Mick
  19. Ha,,,, I've broken ribs in the past. And yes laughing is not funny
  20. Wow, thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š.. my sister used to go to the night owl nighters in Leicester in the 1960s. I grew up listening to soul and motown from her room etc.. and post wigan as a Leicester lad the oddfellows, hinckley and Loughborough were my local niters. Thank you for sharing. It is amazing how much this music means to us. It's probably something that you can't explain to people who have never experienced it...
  21. I'm probably a youngster on the site, not 60 till May.. Been diagnosed with a fatal illness got 50 percent chance of another 5 years ( Do not want sympathy as it is what life decides) Can't participate in niter aids again and trust me with my nickname that is the most difficult thing. Only have an occasional pint of real ale or glass of barossa shiraz. But what I find helps me above anything is listening to the sounds that we love and grew up with.. sometimes they bring a tear to my eyes but they are happy tears of years gone by.. I am so glad that I discovered this scene as a 12 year old and Can't believe that after 48 years It means so so much โœŠ๏ธ So to the Northern soul scene of 81 onwards up until today the biggest thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š Greedy
