  1. I've asked this before but what is "extremely conservative" grading ? I've looked at CS's auctions and most don't get over VG+ and many are less. Is his VG+ others' M- ? I don't buy anything on US Ebay described as below M-/NM/VG++. Any fussy collectors on here who can say they've bought off CS [or others mentioned] and been pleasantly surprised ?
  2. First record I came across that got plays back in late 60's along with "Soul Sauce" Then early to mid 70's This is a great version. Album only I think.
  3. All records graded under strong light and condition as per SS guidelines. VG++ is still very nice and close to M-. All guaranteed refund if not happy. 4. I kinda referred to this phenomena back in February in relation to a few regular sellers on EBay. You had dealings with CS ? How conservative are his gradings ? A VG+ is M- ? Just interested as I tend to ignore auctions unless VG++ or M-. Thanks.
  5. Up to rather dear now but 2 bidders head to head.
  6. Looks right to me.
  7. Yes, Richard. Was in sixth form with him. Stopped going by '72. Went to Rugby club a few times. Poco Poco in Stockport ran a night on a Sunday as well which was more or less Wheel records so went there too as closer than Ashton. Pendulem now and again when on Hardman St but regular at MSG.
  8. I used to go there too between 69-71. Quite a trek from Hazel Grove. Was it Sunday night ? The Moon in Duckinfield as well usually on a Thursday I think though think been on a Saturday too. Al Devine was the dj at the Moon. Mate [souljer6 on here] lived opposite the Moon.
  9. Did the commonplace 1973 Boots of Sandi Sheldon and the Younghearts stop both tunes being played that year? Or in 1974? Or every year after Went to Torch, Pendulem, Mecca, Wigan and I think you've got this the wrong way round. When they were booted or re-issued on UK they were dropped at the leading clubs. Records were also phased out as new titles took their place. Value of original plummeted. Remember getting Tempos off Richard for a copy of "Skating on thin ice" UK demo which had just come out. Originals retaining their value was a later development toward end of 70's ? There is more chance today in a big club of hearing a booted 45 than back in '73. As for Wally Cox, I'm sure someone somewhere plays it out as I notice it's climbed in price.
  10. All a bit hazy now. Pretty sure I did an acetate for Richard of Originals/Marvin Gaye but exact time escapes me. He might remember when. I know Dave aint sure of sequence of events either. I'm guessing very very end of Wigan then.
  11. I'm not dead certain but I think what Martin is referring to is Cadet [not Chess linked] distributors/one stop. I think it was 1980 and Larry Ray [Pietowski] told me there was a place with copies of Cecil 45. He'd been trying to get in but no luck. Gave them a ring and got the OK from someone who worked there. We both went and spent say 40 minutes in there but then owner turned up and we were turfed out. Didn't come across Cecil but there were titles in quantity such as Gary Haines [easily 100+], PANIK label [some copies of Deans], Hyperions [50+] Others I can't remember but all in quantity and didn't get to look at all the stock.
  12. Why buy this ? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Northern-Soul-45-LUTHER-INGRAM-If-Its-All-The-Same-To-You-Babe-HIB-HEAR-/232736206415?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 G condition ! I spent a couple of hours last night trawling through US Ebay. Mostly two well-known sellers with what I call junk. Lucky if I came across a VG+ yet attracting bids as if M-. Same every time I look at their stuff. I don't get it at all. Non-UK buyers ?
  13. And I know where you, Swifty, Back Street Blue and Shufflin' live ! I don't think I've been so humiliated since the wife caught me wearing her underwear. As I pointed out they're so much easier to iron if you're wearing them.
  14. FFS! I thought it was a facsimile of the Soul copy which I wanted to just put in numerical label order. Didn't realise it was the "blank" thing.
  15. Heard this once or twice on release but more a Beach scene tune

  17. "I rush headlong down a dark aural tunnel Bloody ragged nails down the blackboard of life Silent screams echo in the primordial night The clash of despairing cymbals." A short tribute to funky-edge by Ezra Poundshop
  18. I'd say usually if someone says I have "The 81" on Cameo-Parkway, they mean on British issue.
  19. I was thinking about "authenticity" really. I know there are red vinyl Motown 45s. Trying to think if seen purple ? Jimmy Ruffin/Gladys Knight pops into my head but cant place why ? I just thought black vinyl was used for original. Not that keen on re-issues myself as would prefer unreleased material to be put out but I guess sales/revenue come into it.
  20. I've asked mate in NJ to get me one. He's having a copy too I collect USA Motown so figured it can go in that box. I do seem to have three legit copies already. Only thing I'm dubious about is purple vinyl. Rather have black and I reckon should have the choice on the day.
  21. You are right of course but I definitely came home from Wigan with more new 45s than I do now when I go out.
  22. Yes, sorry. In my defence I did turn myself in by reporting it.
