How Come They Never Made It Big?
Am aware of the bootleg WD look-a-likes...didn't realise there were also orange stock look-a-likes? The original WDs also have sub-standard quality print, but the vinyl is stamped. I'm also rather partial to their other track on Early Bird, 'Maybe They're Right'...not obvious NS, but a powerhouse, tumbling Soulful delivery that will appeal to others I'm certain (WDs and orange stockers).

How Come They Never Made It Big?
This had spins during the 8Ts and the price went up quite sharpish. The flipside is awesome, called, 'Ha Ha'...although I prefer the mix on their UA LP.

How Come They Never Made It Big?
The original version by Roy Smith on Delphi / Liberty is miles better to my ears...far more NSoul as well

Jesse Thomas - Bases Are Loaded - Tail Gate
Great thumping New Orleans R'n'B...what's teh current going rate, please?

Apart From Weekenders.....the Furthest

Pat Hodges - Hme 1St & 2Nd Press
Which is the definitive 1st press? The ones with the separate 'block-lettering' of HME, or the ones where the HME letters are 'merged and arched'? Rough valuations for each also appreciated. TIA

Uptights on Columbia on eBay
I think it's a different take rather than mix? Agree, a total monster...the drumming and bass are flippin' fantastic and dancefloor friendly!

Uptights on Columbia on eBay
I remember paying £8 for my first copy and being disappointed when I played it on my home Hi-Fi, as the drums are too punchy The previously unissued version on the Sony CD compilations a few years ago is MUCH smoother and more Northern imo...check it out

Unexpected Writing On Labels - Any Stories
Slight (!) tangent, but whilst out digging today in deepest darkest Tokyo, I came across a 7" sleeve with some interesting notes scribbled on it...it had several months noted with DJ names next to them: Mick, Carl Fortnum, Arthur and Sam! Made me smile...as did the bunch of discs I found a bit later on

Howard Tate
Had x3 45's released on Japanese Verve...in pic covers...rare...very nice! My fave track by the man is easily the rompin', 'You're Looking Good' on Utopia.

Freddie & Henchi - Biscuits And Buttermilk
Fabulous Deep Soul flipside, by the way.

How Come They Never Made It Big?
This one never went massive enough to now be regarded as an Oldie/Classic (due to it being an easy find?). Even more surprising considering it saw a UK release as well. Pure uptempo NSoul that doesn't break the bank balance.

Soul Great Syl Johnson Finds 'justice' At Last
A worthy project and a sumptuous piece of packaging...but why did the guy in the YouTube clip insist on throwing the discs down to give it some kinda 'weight = quality' approach!? Did anyone else cringe when he cut through the packaging...no protection over the cover, so the blade could've gone and cut the sleeve there and then...ouch!

Quality 60's - Some Reductions
A tune I can happily have on repeat at least x20 times in a row...love it!

Earl ' Duke ' Jenkins Oh Boy / Misusin ' Me
I struggled to sell some spare copies at a mere £15, even though it is a great tune and books higher. I've had both East and West Coast pressed WDs with slightly different design logos. In my experience the red stock copy is rarer.

Eddie Kendricks - Date With The Rain
-
Marcell Strong (Emerge)
I also have a spare mint- copy, if anyone else wants one

Shirelles
Now go give their version of 'Putty In My Hands' a listen...another to shake ya thang to...and to possibly get Nige to go and make the coffee/tea as well!?!

Copies used to be readily available during the mid-8Ts...burgundy stockers and WDs. Probably still squirrelled away in collections from that period when that sound style was king!
