News: The Post Wigan Years - Northern Soul
Chalky, thanks for that wonderful read...You've actually covered my era in Soul..I missed the Casino..was a little but young, and didn't make it..so my starting time was events such as Rotherham, Hinckley etc...I remember the Ric Tic Revue so well - still have some pictures...Stafford was tops for me. We used to drive down from Edinburgh every two weeks - sometimes bus, usually car. The buzz and excitement of the "new" music at the time was thrilling. Shouts was the Scottish "Stafford" I guess...great set of local DJ's ...An honourable mention needs to go to their forerunner, the Glenrothes (Thornton) nighters ran by the Walls brothers..they kept soul alive in Scotland until the Shotts nighters came around. It came full circle for me recently when I went to the recent Thorley event in Crew "spirit: all nighter...again, lots of good music...keep on writing ! magic stuff!

I want the company sleeve
ah, I didn't realise that. I have sympathy for you then. You'll need to state sleeve etc clearly in the future to avoid future hassle...good luck

I want the company sleeve
Hmmm,I'm sure you won't like my view on this. I know you are right in the purity of what you say, but if I saw an "actual record" advertised in it's company sleeve. I'd expect it to be delivered that way.. Feels "a tad" misleading to present it that way and not deliver it that way.

TWO THINGS THAT ARE KILLING THE SOUL SCENE
i don't think any of those things mentioned are killing the scene....in fact, most of these topics (albeit not the internet one) were around in the early 80s..DJ's overplaying tunes, not enough new music, too much new music etc etc...it's because people want different things from their experience.. The scene isn't dying - never will die..nothing wrong with thinking of improvements...but those points above are not killing the scene..

All the records - I mean paperwork and stuff - from Wigan when it closed
Got annoyed?? .. People didn't travel around the country to "get patches". They were simply trinkets along the way from attending great nighters...Surely, they went to be with their mates, dancing to incredible music, hearing new tunes, experience the energy, the chat, the sweat filled halls, in one of the most special underground music scenes that existed ever...I don't believe people would get annoyed if they came across some patches later on, it would make a great little story.....

Racism at NS venues; did/does it happen
Whilst I can understand in a way defensiveness against such a generalist statement by Charles, I don't think it should dismissed out of hand. A black voice on racism should be listened too...Northern was (still is?) a predominantly white working class scene...and whilst the love of black music would, no doubt, provide a different demographic, you still get some of the ills of general society at events, particularly when the events are big with many people there...It's never been something I've witnessed..but then I'm a 40 something white guy..so not the best to judge...

The Film - Reviews
isn't it absolutely brilliant that someone was bold enough to make have a film about our passion and the best underground music scene that's ever existed...and we get to debate about it on here...bloody magic!!
