  1. Someone got a bargain on Del Chontays. Half price I'd say.
  2. I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I thought Rug Bowers had the first copy of Lester Tipton in early 77. He played it at The Rock Foundation in Rushden and lent it to be played at St Ives allnighter later the same night.
  3. Agree with JV Peterborough/St Ives 77
  4. Another that reminds of St Ives 1976. No idea where it was played first though.
  5. Funny Girl LP. Must be fast version. Will pay £60 for a EX copy
  6. Pal and the Prophets was pitched down and pressed as Star Odyssey. Must be pretty rare I'd guess.
  7. Another one that started at St Ives covered up as Mike Post - Feelings. .... St Ives one of the most underated nighters in N.S. history IMO
  8. Makes sense as some of the DJs were doing St Ives one week Cleethorpes the next. Ginger and Sam spring to mind. Edit Just thought of another one I only remember being played at St Ives in 76 was Sweet Breeze- Good Thing. Was that played at Cleethorpes too?
  9. Had forgotten all about this one. I also remember it from St Ives in 76. Can't remember who used to play it but I can't recall it being played elsewhere either.
  10. Cheers. Was only at £16 when I last looked on Monday.
  11. What happened to The MBs ?
  12. If there's a lucky dip of those five I'll be the poor sod that ends up with Georgie Porgie. 🫣
  13. Whilst agreeing about Stafford the same could be said about Cleethorpes, St Ives, Yate, The Fleet, Clifton Hall etc. A lot of sounds from other venues pushed the scene into a fresh direction.
  14. Spot on. I do enjoy reading his observations even though on occasions they differ vastly from my view for the very reason you have outlined.
  15. Like I said Tony never claimed to have discovered it. He just brought it to the wider audience.
  16. You obviously knew him well. 😅
  17. Not quite the first to play it. It was big at Ady's 6Ts does. Tony introduced it to the nighter scene as described previously. Other plays Tony got minor success with at The Fleet in that period were Peggy Scott-You've got it all and New Censation- I've got nothing but time. He wasn't scared to be a bit different......on many levels 😄
  18. How about Ian Dury 'Hit me with your rhythm stick ' at Yate.
  19. We had been to a Friday night do at The Railway in West Hampstead (60ts). It was mainly late 50s and early 60s R&B. Nina Simone was played and I bet Tony Warot he wouldn't dare play it out at a nighter. He did, at The Fleet the following night. That was late 79.
  20. Yes that's how I remember it too but at St Ives/Wirrina. Toni Basil as well covered up as Lauda Edmunds-Break These Chains.
  21. Wasn't that Arthur Fenn that was playing Brand New Faces? I always associate JB with Sam.
  22. To be fair, as oldies rooms go it wasn't up to much. I hardly ever went in there.
  23. The Fleet. If you are looking at the stage there's a door to the right of the stage. Go through there and turn left into the corridor and the oldies room is on the right hand side of the corridor. It was like a small classroom with kids pictures on the wall with the tables and chairs removed. It was open every nighter I went to there from 78 on.
  24. Is it me or has that Billy Watkins stock copy disappeared? Was interested in seeing what it would fetch.
  25. I was told that the red mid 70s issue was a legitimate re issue pressed with the original stamps. I have no evidence to say one way or another- its just what I was told many years ago. So, are the red mid/late 70s jobs boots or legitimate? Any one know?
