  1. Yes I spoke to him briefly Pete, seemed very friendly. If I had his sort of capital I would be doing exactly the same thing: stocking up on the best records ever made regardless of price....best of luck to him. Would like to know what the 70's thing on Toeholt was!
  2. I remember him on for quite a while?? And then also on for a while in the backroom too.....
  3. Pretty sure he was playing Because Of My Heart off a Rouser copy at Soul Rev maybe someone else could confirm I wasn't just seeing things....also had Saints, Gwen Owens, Damon Fox, and played a mental 70's thing on blue Toeholt.....had some pretty monster records basically.
  4. Also on a Deon Jackson CD comp of his best stuff but the sound quality is even worse than off the Detroit Dynamite comp.

Sure i've heard Dean Anderosn play it too?? What a sublime incredible record, one of my favorite unissued records... Keith played it next to Ray & The Blue Satins in Cleethorpes this year and they sounded great...
  7. Imagine the ruckus that little lot will cause.
  8. The whole things pants: films, plays....much more interesting and worthwhile spending time on the records themselves since they are the actual reason any of us are even bothering in the first place.
  9. A brilliant double sider from a great, great singer. I wonder if there is an extended tape version of Our Day somewhere with more of J.P.'s goosebump-inducing vocals. If so I would love to hear it. Luppers played it in Asturias and it sounded awesome, anthemic i might go as far as to say. Lighters in the air and all that.
  10. Blimus.....so copy number two only just surfacing 40 odd years after it was recorded! Now that IS a rare record.....
  11. Thats what i had heard too...would be good to get a confirmation. As rare as the infamous Frank Wilson then if that is the case! What other only two known copy records are there? Frankie Beverley on Rouser? Two Plus Two??
  12. I'm not a luvvie unfortunately, i wish i was i might have more money.......
  13. I thought part of the northern scene's appeal was it's resolutely underground and non commercial stance. All these films, plays and f*** knows what just go to undermine the scenes credibility imho.
  14. "I am definitely NOT involved in making a film about 'Northern Soul'. That, I think is an impossible feat. So, your not right in saying that." But a play is?? Its all getting a bit luvvie this isn't it?
  15. 'He did indeed which is why I bought it.......got a very nice surprise when I flipped it ' So did I!! Heard Mr. Dobson play it on the odd occasion too. Can't ask for more out of two sides imho. Only gripe if i'm pushed is that 'Our Day' could do with another go on the chorus after that brilliant flute break.....
  16. sounded ok to me i had a bid on it. seller had it up on here at £450 odd i think a few months back??

  19. I think this a monumental rare soul record. Would absolutely love to hear it played out at a nighter..... Have to agree with Gareth the vocals are outstanding and its got that superb distinctive King production....amazing. Also the whole mystique of it what with the singers untimely death ect... Up there with the very best records imho. Rarest soul record to appear on ebay maybe? Has the Mello Souls been up for sale on there?
  20. Join the club Joan. Maybe we could go halves and have some sort of alternate weekend ownership thing going on??
  21. did you get £500 on the george byrd in the end marc?
  22. Sir George on G&G or Gino on Perfecta is great as well.....
  23. JP Robinson flip, 'Keep Me Satisfied' is worth the money alone.....heard Kitch used to play it?

I got a copy of this off Les Harris too for £40 the other day graded at VG- but described as 'plays fine all the way through'. Arrived exactly as above but skips. Rather unfriendly seller too. Back it goes....
  25. Shouldn't be hard to find a Little Melvin...quite a few been knocking around on here recently round about the £150 - £200 mark. Good luck!
