  1. Very sad news. There was only one George Jackson, his styling and feel was unique. Paul SSCD 7024 GVCD 3026 GVCD 3003

  6. As I've stated on another board today there are many good writer/singers in the world of soul music but not many that can be classed as a genius. A huge loss for the soul world

  9. Top review ....... really looking forward to making our way to our home City once more for some top notch Soul sounds! Dave T has summed it up by comparing it to one of the European Weekenders - City based with progressive venues & of course a progressive & mixed music policy. Great memories from last year & can't recommend the Jabezz Clegg highly enough for the Sunday night venue ....... bring it on ;-{D)
  10. The first thing I did when I discovered the internet in the 90s was start typing in names of my soul heroes. I typed in 'Margie Alexander' (as she's easily one of my top five favourite singers) and came up trumps. To cut a long story short I got her number and called her up and interviewed her. The interview found it's way into In The Basement magazine, though I no longer have a copy and can't remember where the tapes are. She was really sweet and told me all kinds of interesting things - for example, when she went to Chicago, she had an appointment to see Major Lance - he asked her to babysit his kids and if I remember correctly she said he didn't come home for about three days. She said her ambition was to sing at the Albert Hall with a full orchestra. Sounds sloppy I know but I always dreamt of winning the lottery and fulfilling her dream (it would have had to been a big win). I remember seeing Susanne Boyle on TV singing at the Albert Hall and thinking 'Bitch! That should be Margie Alexander'. Well Margie, thank you for the music and I'm sorry you never fulfilled your dreams, but you were a fucking seriously good singer. One of the very best. And who can argue with that?

  12. Great review ...this really is a must on the soul calendar for us now. Thanks for asking me last year -we really enjoyed the Sunday night at Jabez Clegg ...great venue and line up and I even had the joy of double decking with none other than David Ripolles on the Monday ...what an honour. Thanks to the guys for continuing to support the lady Dj's on the Soul Scene... I was made to feel very welcome. Really looking forward to seeing what Helena & Cristina play this year too. I'll be DJ'ing in London on the Saturday so will be arriving Sunday afternoon with not to much blood in my alcohol stream I would imagine ...fully prepped and looking forward to an awesome couple of days music in God's own city! See you there!
  13. Heard the advert for it and the music was pretty good, driving funky late 60s early 70s.
  14. Sad to hear that.... Mine is "Can I Be Your Main Thing" on Atlantic Records .....amazing record... Love that Chi Sound release as well....slow Soul par excellence ....

  21. Why no London venues? I know Basildon is only 40 minutes by train but it's still a missed opportunity for fans and the artists.
  22. Just called and booked our room at the peebles hydro for what's got to be the soul event of 2013. £60 each per night with Brekie. Looking forward to seeing all the old Allanton / Shotts loons.
  23. Is there any other records by mel out there ? as i've only heard the two on Fip If so could a sound file be put on here. The you tube post was taken by the late Dave Pointon, has anybody got any other recordings of that memorable moment Cheers Jim.
