'Sugar Daddy' is on the Barrett Strong CD 'The Complete Motown Collection' (Spectrum 2004). Say's on the sleeve notes that Barrett is backed by the Rayber Voices.

Dish Warp's And Cleaning
Had 2 UK records over the years that looked absolutely perfect, when played it was like 'frying tonight dear'...I could not understand what the hell was wrong with them, nice and clean, no marks but they just would not play without loads of crackle. I tried everything to clean them up and nothing worked. Took them to a guy in a shop in Norwich who's records always seemed very clean and bright.....he cleaned them up no problem using a combination of Tesco's unscented baby wipes and Mr.Muscle window and glass cleaner, after a few cleans using both, and some elbow grease, they played perfect!!

Bob And Earl Question
Not so much a photo Ady...a drawing, she's wearing a sequined dress....maybe it's not her, something in the back of my tiny brain is telling me that i've seen the picture before and that it is her, presume it was drawn from an actual photo. Can't scan as my scanner packed up...will try and find it on the net ok.

Bob And Earl Question
Inferno put out an album of Mirwood stuff (1984), the Sherlie Matthews track was on it, even a picture of her on the cover....on the sleeve it states 'All Original Mirwood Recordings'.......
-
Bob And Earl Question
Doubt it, seeing as she was a major player in the Mirwood set up...

Is This A Record
I know one I heard years ago that went something like..."And Since I Met You Baby...(pause).....Sugar Aint Sweet No More" (last bit in deepish tone). I was always under the impression that it was the Precisions but then when I heard their's it was definitely not it! Can someone please help as I have been longing to hear it again but to no avail. It was a corker as I recall...am I going mad?

Marvin Gaye Info Required Please
Hi Paul, Album only - 'In The Groove' Tamla 285 (sometimes issued in the USA with different cover as 'Heard It Through Grapevine). 1968. Also, if you scour the boot sales, came out on a MFP Sounds Superb album 'How Sweet It Is'.

Lee Rogers - Premimium Stuff
Prices range from £40 - 70. It's the demand for the flip 'The Same Things That Make You Laugh'...so I was informed.

Lee Rogers - Premimium Stuff
Probably me being paranoid. Manship say's there are no bootlegs. Mine is a slightly darker yellow than the other stuff on the label, veering more towards orange, the others are lemon yellow. Side two is printed slightly off centre, and like I said, low-fi recording. I know there are white demo's with only the 'Sock Some...' side and not the brilliant flip. The guy I bought it off had it at least 15 years too.

Lee Rogers - 'Sock Some Love Power To Me / The Same Things That Make You Laugh' - Premium Stuff Bought this a while back for quite a few quid, when it arrived was a bit unsure of it's 'origin'....different shade of yellow than other Premium Stuff labels, quite a bit of dead wax in the run out grooves, label title a bit skewiff on one side, recording low-fi. Strangely enough, i've only ever seen copies for sale in the UK, never seen one from a USA seller yet....it's listed quite high in the price guides but no mention anywhere of it ever being booted. Macca (on here) said his copy was the same and others he's seen are too, but they are 100% originals. I'm still not convinced, anyone know anything about this 45?

Sam Dees
Interesting, I tried to e-mail Dave as regards to buying a record off his list, got no reply at all, even after 3 e-mails!! A mate of mine also reckons you have to post to Japan because that's where Dave now lives!!!...All I can say is GOOD LUCK!

According to Roger Dalke's series of 'Record Selector' books (well worth getting if you still can), the instrumental track 'Never Again' WI 253 (and the Millie l.p) is definitely by 'The Sound System'. I also remember finding out another way but can't place how at the moment. Very authentic USA soul sound that's for sure! Are you responsible for the Roots Knotty Roots publication? I was involved with the 'Scorcher' Ska/Reggae price guide about 7 years ago, as well as my own fanzine 'Time Longer Than Rope'.

Slight name slip, sorry, it's 'Sound System' and they are credited with Owen Gray on Island WI 258 (red/white) 'Take Me Serious' / 'You Don't Know Like I Know'. Two good dancers, one obviously a version of Sam & Dave, the other a nice original soul tune.

It's a group named the 'Sound Syndicate'. And you're right, it's a UK recording. They also turn up (this time actually credited) on an Owen Gray soul side on Island.
