Long before Trojan did their 'Work Your Soul' CD I was doing my own Jamaican Soul compilations. This one was my first and I used to dish them out when I ran a Ska/Reggae fanzine, many people had copies and it was very popular, you can see by the track listing it was fairly similar to the one Trojan put out.... I've since done 12 volumes of the stuff so there's plenty out there!!- Unissued Court Davis Acetate
I must have missed when Court's brother visited this site 🙁 so, after listening to 'Phoenix' I gather Court is white? I'd never have guessed years ago when I heard 'Try To Think...' but did start to wonder when I found a copy of this 45 on a boot sale....- Some history on this one please.
The band are actually Cashman, Pistilli & West (and obviously some tight rhythm section). 3 white guys who had an album on ABC and various other 45's on ABC....here's an example from 1968...- Northern Soul Singer -- DORA HALL ?????

Reminds me of the kind of thing Rodd Keith was doing! Must admit, I do like 'It's All Over' and 'Pretty Boy'.- Majestees / Volumes on Twirl
What's the story of the Majestee's 'pressing with the typo'? I got my copy from Soul Bowl about 20 years ago and it has the spelling 'Majjestee's' (double j). EDIT: Doh! It's ok i've just found the topic/thread on it on here....and I was part of it!!!! Old age definitely setting in 😜- Carol waller original
Does she not have a copy herself ady?- Bob Relf, Bob and Earl, Bobby Garrett
Not according to Sherlie herself...read the comments on these 2 videos...- Bob Relf, Bob and Earl, Bobby Garrett
Another 'anomoly'...this time the Mirwood Sherlie Matthews 45. Another Soussan press? Am I right in thinking the legitimate release is on the Inferno UK LP from the mid 1980's? Pretty sure this has been discussed before but thought I'd re-release it (pardon the pun!) as we are on a Mirwood trip.- Bob Relf, Bob and Earl, Bobby Garrett
Bit of info on the Trans release (and stamp image) here... https://www.45cat.com/record/recordus81- Bob Relf, Bob and Earl, Bobby Garrett
- Four Seasons 'The Night' USA 45 release?
They've updated the 45cat listing now to show as 'unreleased'. Thanks chaps that's all cleared up now 👍- Four Seasons 'The Night' USA 45 release?
As I thought, here's the link to it's USA 'release'... https://www.45cat.com/record/mw5025fus- Four Seasons 'The Night' USA 45 release?
Is there actually a USA 45 release on Mowest? 45cat suggests MW-5025 but I cannot find an image for this 45 anywhere! I've never seen a copy. Anyone got a scan?- ‘Mysterious’ Instrumental
Yeah, a popular track that's for sure. Even this one has had plays... (great backing)- I've found a box of Frank Wilsons...
What price you selling a copy for then Godz?- Come on, own up!

Bit of info here suggesting that Carol is Bayer Sager and the 'D-Men / Fifth Estate' connection... https://www.45cat.com/record/k13568- Major Lance - Don't want me no more - 70's boot
Oh, thanks for putting that right WoodButcher- Major Lance - Don't want me no more - 70's boot
- Carol & Gerri
Any info on this pair who did the 2 sided classic...? It has been suggested that Carol is 'Carole Bayer Sager' who was married to Burt Bacharach. So who's Gerri? Anybody know? Gerri Diamond perhaps?- If the term northern soul had not come about ?
You have a point! There must be at least 8 F.Valli / 4 Seasons tunes that have had plays on the NS scene. Can you name 8 from Otis? It must be the pop/Motown sound is (was?) more at home on the scene than the 'grits n' chiltlins' southern sound. EDIT: I suppose it's all about the danceability of a tune rather than where it's actual origins lie?- If the term northern soul had not come about ?
I get it, A Northern, Soul And Action Group just needed a comma.....however how do you explain this one then?- If the term northern soul had not come about ?
Here you go, scroll down a bit and you will see a gig ad for St. Louis Union 'The Group On The Northern Soul Scene'....this must have been in the 1960's surely!!! https://www.manchesterbeat.com/groups/stlouisunion/stlouisunion.php - Jamaican Soul
