  1. HA! I did mention I bought my Strata copy off you Pete, a bargain too!
  2. Bought this 45 about a year ago for 'Call On Me'....boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I played the flip!!! 2 stonking tunes indeed, one just as good as the other. Reminds me of a Detroit recording. Sorry, can't help with any info mate. Think I paid £40 for a minter off Pete Smith, which was a good price as I think it's listed about £75/100. I like the 'Strata' label and got a couple (not 'Dynamic Deadbeats' though!). Be interested to see a discography of the label....
  3. Is this UK release by Herb McQuay unknown? First heard it from a guy in Norwich who runs a record shop, he told me it's going down great guns (in Norwich anyway!). Tried to search for a copy but no luck. Picked one up last week by chance, newly listed on Ebay @ BIN £4.99 so I snapped it up. I think Herb was a one time member of the Platters? It's an uptempo dancer with great potential and surprisingly NOT in John Manship's UK price guide book!!! Anyone know it or playing it?
  4. 'What can I Say' originally came out on President in 1968 as 'Crying All Night'. It was then released as 'What Can I Say' on Pye in 1972. Funny, I've just bought the Pye one but haven't played it yet....I'm hoping it's the same as the President one that I also had and let go many years ago.
  5. Embers - 'Burn You A New One' goes for anything between £40 - 70 The L.P on Cascade does have the only release for 'Cressa Watson' and I'm guessing about £20.
  6. P.M'd you regarding Marie Knight.

I quite like it. Daniel Merriweather has worked with Mark Ronson, so no surprise really. Does sound like a Northern mid-tempo backing track has been sampled/copied.
  8. complete waste of time putting that on then, as you say...pointless! Could have filled the grooves with a nice rarity, or at least a popular tune. Now I know why I couldn't find it listed in RC guide....too bloody cheap!
  9. Sure you're not talking about 'Cast Your Fate To The Wind'...?
  10. ...also, while I think of it, the one released in 2004 distributed by 'Universal' (backed with Chris Clark) on vintage black Tamla Motown label 982 153 is a different take than the one released in 1979.
  11. An RCA distributed copy still went for £60 on ebay last year!! I bought the RCA distributed copy at an allnighter around '82 for £1.25p....it came in an orange Tamla Motown sleeve, just like the one's for the early 500 TMG series (note 'RCA distributed' in small print on the flip of the sleeve...)
  12. As far as I know, the 'Sounds Orchestral' is previously unreleased, a mod thing I suppose. I have a copy and have to admit, it does seem odd among those northern stormers!
  13. Original should have a stamped 'H' in the run-out grooves, both sides.
  14. I see that particular one had a pattern of circles/rings on the blank side, my copy has a checkered pattern! Strange release, but a great tune.

All the way! Especially with Mr.Ruffin on lead.....
  16. Manship had 'Majestic' listed @ £50 in the previous price guide. I have a copy and think it's got good potential.

I bidded on that! Didn't think anyone would want it with no cover, I managed to get ONLY the cover a couple of hours earlier for £5.20 and thought I'd get that vinyl to match it up. I think I went to about £11 for the vinyl. Here's the cover I got a few hours previous.... https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280348420248 I was gutted, it didn't last long though.....I got the vinyl off Gemm for half that price!

Not sure I've ever heard it by John Holt?? Prince Buster did a version.... ..and so did these...funky reggae version... Also came on UK 'Explosion' (Trojan) 45
  20. Mmmm, not sure what UK release your mate is talking about (TMG series? not one I know of) but the white label 45 came out in the late 90's/early 2000's with large USA type centre, of dubious origin . Someone may be able to clarify a 1970 UK release.....
  21. Wasn't this L.P only ('Thats The Way Love Is) then put out on the flip of 'Lonely Lover' white label 45? Don't think it got an 'official' 45 release????
  22. Got their second album through the post this week, 'Colonization' and it's superb, garage, psych and beat (also contains 'I'm Just Waitin'). I've seen their first album go for a few hundred dollars! Great group.
  23. Definitely...if I knew your name!!!!
  24. ....'I'm Just Waitin' on Sentar. Blue-eyed (Philly?) outfit. Great tune, brought to my attention by someone on here who had it in his recent 'home' playlist. Made it my business to seek a copy out, cheap too! (at the moment). Has it been played out? Is it well known? It's not in John Manships book and it's a cracking piece of Northern Soul ala 'Garage' style. Written by T.Orlando who I guess is one 'Tony' of Dawn & 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon...' fame. He is not a band member by the way.
  25. I paid £25 for mine. Previously unissued, so the only way to get it.
