John Manship's Tease Auction
and if you were academically writing about elvis as an important artist, i'm guessing you might write "presley".

John Manship's Tease Auction
elvis went by and branded his (unique) first name. you can come up with exceptions but clearly when talking about any important literary or historical figure you generally use their last name.

also, do you refer to shakespeare just as "william"? using someone's last name in that way is a sign of importance.

John Manship's Tease Auction
for the record i don't think he'd actually do that, but it would be hilarious

John Manship's Tease Auction
i disagree. he's built his name and a brand. i don't know what his personal opinion of it is but if anything, it's the opposite, it's talking about him as an institution. it's like saying "tefteller".

i thought of that too but it's been mentioned several times above already. but he says "two sider" and the inspirations is a 1-sided disc. maybe he got some crazy press with a flip. he already has a guaranteed 1000 pounds, and hasn't done a reveal, he should switch it out to be a cheap record, that would be so awesome.

from popsike (this is my copy). it says "introducing gogate's new personalized label", pretty much explicitly saying the custom thing. It's GS-3

John Manship's Tease Auction
i have a good group soul record on gogate, it has a nice sweet side and an okay midtempo side. group is called "True Nature". Although i'm sure someone has one, I don't know anyone who has one and it doesn't come up in discussions of the label. I'm sure the label was a total custom thing, probably none of the records are connected.

Carstairs And Universal Mind, Same Group?
Thanks, now I have to buy the Innocent Bystanders 45... However, this is the lineup I have for the Carstairs: Joseph Baines, Larry Jefferson, Ervin Langley (deceased), Johnny Shipley, Ronald Thomas. Is this lineup incorrect? Is there a Cleveland [was that a typo above?] Horne that is on only one of the two records? Thanks for any info.

Carstairs And Universal Mind, Same Group?
isn't the innocent bystanders an instrumental track and the carstairs a vocal group?

Invictus-Hot Wax-Music Merchant Unreleased And Acetate Stuff
i think i have the full label run of released invictus / hot wax records but i don't organize my collection by label so i never printed out the list and went and checked off each one. i guess i should to check if i should add something to my want list.

Invictus-Hot Wax-Music Merchant Unreleased And Acetate Stuff
a few years ago on ebay there was a collector liquidating his motown and invicitus collections and he had test presses (not acetates) that he sold of both labels. I got a few unreleased mowest #s I think. Maybe he didn't have invictus test presses but his collection was so complete that it seemed he probably had at least one. I can ask him if he did and who it went to.

Some One Is Going To Be Dissapointed
One of the main rules in discogs is that you have to have the record in your hand, I think it's supposed to be the scan of that record. I sent a large folder of records I had scanned to someone who works there who also likes to enter in data and he said he couldn't enter them because he wasn't physically holding them. So even if the dude has a copy for sale, I think you're technically not supposed to take the scan from popsike or wherever. not saying it's a good rule, but apparently it's a big rule there.

John Manship's Tease Auction
there are all kinds of weird first press things that almost nobody has ever seen but that exist. i recently got a pressing of the ebonees on brewtown on a totally different local label and a pressing of the auditions on freckles on its original label (which I actually knew about). it could be something like that.

Oddities On Respected Soul Labels
if you see an odd artist on stax or loma you're likely to get not soul, neither is one of the 99% soul labels.
