  3. DORIS & KELLEY - YOU DON"T HAVE TO WORRY on Brunswick. Clean, probably unplayed copy of this now classic, slow burning, psychedelic sweet soul cut. It's a nicer looking multicolor stock copy in a brunswick sleeve. I think this act is from Florida. $105 + $3 shipping US $6 shipping overseas. Paypal only, no surcharges. Legendary Chicago soul producer Clarence Johnson died yesterday. He was responsible for a ton of records that helped define the Chicago Sound, especially in the early 70s. The biggest hit he ever had was Love Jones by the Brighter Side of Darkness but he produced a ton of great records by artists such as the Lovelites, Heaven and Earth, Coffee, Denice Chandler, the Ledgends, etc. added by site further reading links google books - Chicago Soul By Robert Pruter http://books.google....epage&q&f=false a Jan 2000 article http://reynaldo82.co...s-01-28-00.html

is this really an original press of this record?

i actually got that copy, it actually was just dirty and after i cleaned it played with virtually no noise. but it has what looks like heat damage, like some lack of gloss and pitting in the vinyl. the copy i just got has some wear in addition to the same pitting but still plays well. I started the thread because i got two records from totally different sources with the same damage. it's similar to when copies of a record all seem to be water damaged when they originate from the same source where a basement flooded or somethiing.

I didn't get them both together. I just know there's some cases where the entire run or some of the run was heat damaged -- that's the case with the ultimate blacks on hitstown, nobody has ever seen a non-hazy, clean playing copy.
  10. isn't supernatural a show that mainly girls in high school watch?

you should note that that's the excellent later modern / uptempo version of the pretenders "I call it love" on carnival 560, should sell at that price.

yes, I think the label is DV. Very obscure record.

I have a record by a "real" wendy andrews, pretty nice unknown midtempo cut with male group backing called "my man is gone"

thanks a lot, I appreciate it. clearly not all copies are heat damaged. But now I would like to know if anyone else has one and it's pitted or not, would tell me whether the two I have is just a coincidence or not.

thanks, one of the copies i have is pretty clean and plays great but has visible pitting in the wax. does your copy not have this? another weird thing about this record is that the grooves start very close to the edge of the 45.

ok, i know that this might be pointless to ask this since there aren't that many known copies of this record... today i picked up a double of this. both my copy and this copy (which play fine) have some sort of heat damage, there is some sort of pitting in the vinyl. can anyone here that has a copy tell me whether there appears to be some sort of pitting / heat damage in the vinyl? I'm wondering if this has something to do with the rarity of the record? thanks in advance.
  18. are you talking about the banning of all modern soul from sales?
  19. boba replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
yeah they don't actually sound very different to me. i would understand if the producer had something to do with it, he would maybe be trying to make some money off a failed production that he lost money on that had become popular and was selling for $$$. But I don't see any info on the label about this being licensed (was it)? Bootlegging a record and remixing it is more lame than just bootlegging a record.
  20. I have more info now on the enchanted five and ultimates. Enchanted Five is Donnie Scales, later of Segments Of Time on Sussex; Jimmy Radford, Alvin Freeman, brothers Earl Riley and Ray Riley (deceased). Earl Riley and Jimmy Radford were later of The Ultimates on Br-roma. Ultimates on Br-roma is: Nathanial Haden (lead); Jimmy Radford and Earl Riley, both formerly of The Enchanted Five; plus one unknown member. Also, Now on Now might be the same group as the ultimates.
  21. if you hear something that sounds like a harpsichord in a soul song it's probably a clavinet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clavinet
  22. no, i haven't had the energy to figure out the XML yet. i'm sure it's not even very hard.
