  1. what is up with brits and leonas, that place is disgusting with shitty service and like 10 locations. you're the second person to post that here. for good chicago style pizza go to lou malnatis or giordanos. there are also some good upscale type pizza places in the city. unfortunately i can't recommend any record stores, don't really spend any time going to any stores anymore. the most likely one to get soul 45s at is record dugout on 63rd. that new direction lp isn't common but it isn't really anything.

you should lock this thread, this is identical to the "guilty pleasures" thread
  3. i would be very cautious about dewarping a record that plays perfectly. if it has a big dish warp i might send it get dewarped, otherwise i would leave it alone.
  4. for what it's worth there is pretty much no 100% safe way to flatten a record and different types of warps respond differently. Brad has an actual dewarper machine though so it's at least safer than putting it in an oven.
  5. it looks and sounds like it to me. what 60s records even have that font?
  6. I'm a sweet soul fan too. Unfortunately there's almost no tracks about having a baby. That masqueraders track is the closest I can think of. If you want a bazillion tracks with "baby" in the title in reference to someone's girl, let me know.

    awesome record

for what it's worth I was impressed by what you dug up ... I read the original post as a "is this random record I found worth a million dollars?" type post. Anyone genuinely interested probably would have googled to at least find out who Brenton Wood was and known that this was a hit.
  9. Robb, I'm pretty sure there were no other Hopkins 45s. Maybe you are thinking of the Harrison Brothers. The Hopkins Brothers on Magnetic are from New Haven, CT and are exactly the same group as the doowop group the Chestnuts on Davis ... it also happens to include Sylvester Hopkins of the Five Satins. The record is from 1971. The group members don't have any copies and aren't even interested in licensing. Some of the members also sang in later versions of the Five Satins.
  10. the intentions record is pretty rare, a-side is an in demand group funk title. the band on the record is the pharoahs. the intentions were the rival group of the siberians and members of both groups were later in the new testament band.
  11. it's a pretty generic name, and there are lots of cases of same named groups in the same city or adjacent cities. for example, there was an enchanters in chicago, gary, and milwaukee. there was a traits in chicago and gary. etc.
  12. there's literally hundreds of soul tracks (maybe even thousands) with 'baby' in the title. are people really trying to list every one? I did a search for 'baby' on my radio show playlist page and found 114 titles. more relevant would be songs about babies or children
  13. I think this is a different prelude label than the one the original poster was talking about. There are many releases on this later prelude label.
  14. i'm using chrome and successfully added two things to my cart which still were there when i went to checkout. i didn't "check out" because I wasn't actually trying to buy anything though, so I can't tell you if the final step wouldn't work. I don't know if this helps you or makes it more difficult of an issue to reproduce and resolve!
  15. also, there are a few tracks that compare people's love to being a baby. e.g.: Flint Emeralds - Just like a baby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFaqHWiSONI and Helene Smith "Like a baby"
  16. masqueraders - a family
  17. also, maybe not exactly what you want, but the lovelites - how can I tell my mom and dad. also, the bitter and the sweet - i won't have any babies for you
  18. how about anna raye - will you love my child?
  19. This is a surprisingly hard request, especially given how many songs there are about relationships, marriage, mothers, etc. I haven't been able to think of one so far.
  20. for the record nick grades very conservatively
  21. but is that with or without benzos?
  22. nice playlist
  23. I can't comment on anything related to northern history, but I can say that group soul collectors knew about this record back in the day and it apparently some copies at least were available... I wasn't there, this is just what I know from talking to people. It's not like an unknown record that was recently discovered (or at least it was known outside the northern scene).

  25. Thanks everyone. It probably doesn't exist but it would be hard to get some sort of final confirmation I guess. Thanks again.
