  1. I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has talked to many artists that have had misinformation spread about them via rumors posted on the internet which have been repeatedly copied as fact. They might be pieces of plastic but real people's lives were involved and they get angry and feel powerless to stop the misinformation or even to just get properly credited for their life's work. Sure it's a discussion forum, I'm not saying not to discuss, just saying to take a minute to try to actually make an informed post. If you're honestly interested in answering a question vs. just participating in banter, I would think you would want to do that.
  2. with respect to steve's post, i also personally get annoyed at speculation posted as fact, etc. however, annoying nerds like me (probably a fun / productive activity) isn't the issue, the issue is that it's being posted on the internet which then becomes googleable as some sort of authoritative source of information, and then "facts" spread by being copied across different mediums. It's different than talking to your friends in a bar or email. even i've said stuff that ended up being wrong, my only point is to put in some due diligence (e.g. at least a quick google, doesn't take hours) into looking into something if it's gonna be posted. also, you often end up learning about interesting things / connections you never thought of before.
  3. please report back, I'm interested to know if the cloth you have really does work better. If you're looking for something to get more in the grooves though, the microfiber cloth definitely will do that better, it has tufts that work their way into things, and the tufts don't come apart (e.g. it's lint free). They also suck up liquid via capillary action.
  4. wait, what is a furry gonk?
  5. it's a kim weston cover also
  6. it is a reissue / repro label. the wax museum is a record store in North Carolina. This is their record label. You frequently see their press of the commands "no time for you". This is their website: https://www.waxmuseum.net/ They mainly focus on Beach Music.
  7. if you collect reggae it's all vinyl, right? People should take caution with a heavy tonearm approach if cleaning styrene records so as not to cause burn. Why don't you clean it first and then play it through on the heavy turntable? That way you are not pushing around / embedding / scratching the vinyl with the dirt. You could even do one quick clean after that to get any gunk that was dug up at the end.
  8. Honestly after trying tons of different things, a microfiber cloth will work better than that "record cleaning cloth" and is more guaranteed to be lint free. You should buy some and do some comparisons. Post back if you disagree after comparing. It's not like they hired some special designers for that cloth, they just wanted a soft cloth so as not to scuff the record (and it doesn't even say that it's lint free).
  9. The internet opens up some previously insular worlds of collecting. The record is still very rare, I happened to get one copy being in Chicago at the right place at the right time and I bought the other one on ebay (not for cheap). I think it's been on ebay 3 times over maybe a 10 year period. It was on my want list for a long time. My point is just that counting the number of copies is a pointless exercise because there might be 30 copies in people's collections (even if someone can only think of two in their circle) but the record could still be extremely rare. And the record is really good, I think you should post the track on youtube or soundcloud at this point so other people can hear it -- you might have promised not to circulate it but it's not a secret anymore and I can even send you audio of one of my copies if you want.
  10. you keep telling me the thing about some sort of extra thick vinyl, but both copies are just (good) vinyl presses, nothing weird. both have identical deadwax and are from the same plates btw
  11. my copy is the only one without the logo that I've seen. I've been told that this group had members of the doowop group the Quintones on Park (who are from the same housing that the doowop group the Debonairs are from).
  12. actually now collectors need both label variations. i'll take a photo in a second to prove i'm not BSing.
  13. boba replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
that practice only started in the 70s though (obviously with some exceptions such as one-sided chess records), in the 60s X's or "plug side" printed on the label told DJs what to play. I think the main reason is that they are royalty free as Ian mentioned (although the tax thing makes sense too).
  14. and the orr record is a 100% male group
  15. "why pick on me" has nothing to do with those other groups, although it is vaguely related to the chicago doowop group the debonairs on ping. it is a chicago group, and they spell their name the Deboniers. I actually have two copies with different label variations.
  16. fyi, there are other people's houses as well as public places
  17. If you're going to pay someone to flatten vinyl, you should contact a record store that has a real expensive vinyl flattening machine rather than someone who has a dinky $99 record clamp and heating bag. The machine is the safest thing. However, there are definitely cases where you can still render a warped record unplayable by flattening it (usually when flattening a very sharp warp -- it will cause the needle to jerk back and forth rather than up and down, and that may be too much for your turntable and might skip).
  18. I bought it after reading positive comments from people who used it with the heating bag. However, I'm guessing that if your stereo is sensitive enough to pick up fidelity changes from a light warp, that after flattening the original fidelity issue or some new issue would remain.
  19. i bought one a month or two ago but haven't had a chance to try it out yet (haven't even opened the mail packaging). will report back in this thread when i have some results. I also bought the heating bag, my oven is barely a safe place to put food, much less records.
  20. their other cotillion 45 "Thief" was a BDP sample I think. They are the same nola group as the Jades on Mode.
  21. yeah my comments were specific to the US site, have no idea what goes on on the UK site. With all those boots, etc. it looks like the soul music red light district.
  22. thanks for clarifying the value of this record
  23. I interviewed them; interview is on my website. "al-tog" stands for "all together" and is just another Scott Bros owned label. The Scott Bros mixed out most of the group backing and mixed up themselves (the band) which was unfortunate. They were supposed to sign with Stax and the Emotions song "Toys to boys" was originally intended for them but they didn't sign due to bad management advice. They only released those two different 45s (with one coming out on two labels). One of the members, Vandy Hampton (deceased), was later in the Chi-lites.
