"Searching for Soul" by Reg Stickings. Think Dr Pickles on here is a mate of Reg or had something to do with distribution.

I Wish Bootleggers Would F*ck Off
What would you prefer us to talk about Chalky? A reminder of how people feel about bootleggers on a forum such as this does no harm in my eyes.

I Wish Bootleggers Would F*ck Off
OK you've had it since '77 Pete but in those days there was no alternative. Would you still buy a boot today or would you get it on CD, MP3 instead. Must admit in this day and age I really have difficulty understanding the attraction of buying a boot for playing at home. My guess is that in the main they're being bought by "DJs".

Moaning About High Prices
The records that intrigue me are the 'difficult to obtain' category, which some confuse with rarity. These are the records that will plummet in value during the next decade. The truly 'rare' records will always command a premium IMO.

Trends & J. T. Parker Wanted
If you can afford it and you like it why not? Having said that, the situation regarding boots/reissues would put me off spending a significant sum on anything R&B at the moment.

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
Sorry Andy - that's what happens when going off to make tea and toast halfway through typing a reply :-)

The Sudden Abundance Of Re-Issues / Boots
It's not something I like particularily when records are produced as facsimiles of the original. If they came out in bright yellow colours with 'Noddy Records' written in red then maybe I would alter my opinion, after all it would make no difference to those who just want to own a copy of something they can't afford would it? Until that happens I'll form my own view.

Marginal Records, Belgium (Cd Issues)
Some of the 'Soul,Soul'Soul' series were very good for early soul/R&B. These came out on Sabam which I'm fairly sure was connected to Marginal.

Best Way Of Carrying A Couple Of Lp's
Very occasionaly I might play off an LP. Up to now I've just taken the album with me and hoped for the best, but would be interested if anyone has a simple way to keep them safe without carrying a bloody great box around. Was thinking maybe one of those student portfolio cases with a couple of thin ply stiffeners might do the job?

Best Soul Mags
'Shades of Soul' for me too. They also put together some cracking tapes. 'Soul Notes' was a local mag for Penrhyn Old Hall in North Wales which contained a good mix of content. The Old Hall finished at 2.00am but nearly always turned into a niter for those who were lucky enough to be invited back to Bob Shaefers after. Dave Mcadden wrote a great review of this venue in 'Manifesto' which I loved for its irreverent slant on things during its early days.
