There's a sound clip further down the page. Is there some mental health issue here or simply a way of getting noticed/talked about to market other sales. It's beyong stupid, is the "0" key stuck on his/her keyboard?
  2. Think to some extent it depends on the record and the collector. Depending upon rarity, there are those where many collectors simply want the pristine, as near to mint as possible. Over the year I've had sleeves signed, as that personalizes it to me without "spoiling" a label if I want to sell on. Thanks for replies, interesting stories in this grand vinyl/styrene collecting world. Dean
  3. Topic inspired by receiving today the quite ordinary SS715 Lp Earl Van Dyke - The Earl of Funk. Ebay add said "Some writing on sleeve". Upon arrival writing (handwritten) on sleeve goes: "To The Sweetest lady I Know God Bless You George Benson '70" Thought the writing on label was more interesting than the album. Must be a story there. Who was the sweetest lady George Benson knew? I'm aware this isn't "On Broadway" George Benson, but the Jazz detroit saxophonist from the Funk Brothers. I just love the history of these records, and the hand writing just makes it more of an item fo me. Got any label/sleeve scrawlings that are interesting over the years?
  4. Could be selling it for a friend across the street and using a long lense to take the picture?

    Overlooked? 2 good sides IMO
  6. £5 was the standard price for emi discs in the mid 70s wasn't it, strange sort of NS cartel in opperation there. Amuses me to think how credible we thought they were in our youth. Hindsight would make us all rich, but I often think what I could've bought then for £5s that I spent on Emi discs. I've had a great knack of buying the wrong records from an investment perspective, which I think I'm still engaged in. The one that started me collecting from a more serious point was a SOUL b/w demo of Jr Walker Road Runner. I got the sleeve signed at Wigan one night, I remember stumbling across the stage before he'd really finished his spot. The same night I saw S35001 Shorty Long in a box, I had a couple of others on the label and decided to get the whole run. That was before Frank Wilson arrived on the scene, or at least before it wasn't Eddie Foster. Not a big buy that started me, but that moved me from boots and re-issues onto label pride.

Damn cheap and bloody damn good. Must be two of the best soul records to be enjoyed over and over again and again:

1978, last on label, well worth a play:
  10. Speaking to Dave Rivers at Rugby last night, he's got some tales of note to tell about the early years.

I think it's often sellers looking for a price guide or indication when to sell Paul. can be frustrating though when you think there's lots of interest and . . . . . . . nothing.

Not such a big ticket item like some mentioned above but this amused and frustrated me last night. Very nearly got this for UA demo of Ray Pollard's Drifter$28.51 ($1 above $27.51) from ebay, that would've been a bargain! Winning Bid $103.50 My bid $101.00 previous bid $27.51 There were about 10 bids below $27.51, I thought mine was optimistic at $101
  13. My shout would probably be Rob Smith, unasuming always been around since my first ventures, doesn't shout about it, does it. Oh and dazdakins Mrs even though I've never met her.
  14. This may have been covered a few times but my poor memory can't recall this exact label design. Looks like the boot promo but without the concentric swirl lines. Any opinion?
  15. Several others are still $9.99 no bids, Vibrations, Ron Butler, Originals, Cody Black, James Carr, Candi Staton, JJ Barnes. Earl van Dyke seems to be attracting most attention. I thought they were interesting.
  16. I'm sure this will annoy someone, not my intention. Thought it interesting enough to share. Have you seen those signed contracts going through ebay https://cgi.ebay.com/Earl-Van-Dyke-Signed-Contract-Motown-Northern-Soul-Wow-/390258578132?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5add3952d4 That one is a Earl Van Dyke, Motown contract. Loads of interesting items. Please could I ask people not to bid on the Eloise Laws Love Factory from the seller, I was thinking of trying to get that cheap.

A few parcels when home today. Don't know if it's related to security searches but I didn't think Americans did Irony? Notice at 9 o-clock "Unbreakable" , the fine line at 5 0-clock is hairline crack

  19. . How you doing big guy
  20. Thanks, probably not missing anything as you say given date. Curiosity was getting the best of me.
  21. I took a punt on George Tindley - Fairy Tales / Just for Her on a neat Parkway demo from a seller on ebay. $9.95 and $10 postage. Didn't know it, dont't know it, and couldn't locate any sound clip. I was looking forward to the brown parcel to satisfy my curiosity and in the always present but often futile hope of finding a new (to me) good tune. Ended 24th Oct. Got notice today that seller has opened a case to cancell the transaction on the basis that they now realise the record is broken. I don't want to be hard on the seller, accidents and mistakes happen. I am always sceptical about these things but that can be my problem. Does anyone know the tune? Am I missing out or missing nothing?

Gypsy is of those marmite sounds that some love some hate, with equal passion. I love it. Last two I've had: Paid about £80 about 4 years ago, last one saw going through ebay cheaper bought and re-listed and think I got about £90 3 years ago. There were quite a few bidders. Value can be quite influenced by sudden raised awareness and there had been a couple of discussion topics about the disc at the time. About the same time JM auctioned the Ellen and the Shondells (is that right?) disc and only got about £140, which I thought would be worth more. Not noticed any going through lists and ebay more recently. Hope that's a little help. Dean.
  23. Seller is in Hawarden, Chester. I wonder what 25 boxes ended up in Hawarden in the 70s?
  24. That's not the first time I've done that. Been looking for some subtle print to miss the bleedin obvious. Really didn't see it until you pointed it out . . . . . should've gone to specsavers.
  25. So Was Frankie Beverly booted on Sassy? This doesn't say demo in the demo column on the list. I'm struggling to recall an issue boot? And who's asking the question . . . . . do you live near Mansfield?
