  1. Of course they can be the same thing. And yes, some records have been played because they are rare, not necessarily because they are good soul records. But that becomes rather subjective.
  2. Of course not every record was rare. I think we are in danger of getting into semantics.
  3. Some of them are collectible. But surely you're just contradicting yourself? If they're not rare or expensive why would people need to play them from boots?
  4. Hi mate. morality may be seen as a strong word by some but yep that's part of it. The other thing is that ovo dj's spend a lot of money and time in building collections and discovering new records. For many it's their livelihood. Imagine that you'd travelled to the states, unearthed an unknown record, bought it back and the record became massive. Then three months down the line someone somehow counterfeited it and started playing it. Wouldn't you be angry? Loads of other reasons too. Well be here all night mate! Anyway welcome to the site. Pete
  5. Ha! I'm not a dj mate. Just a small scale collector. The ovo issue isn't just about what gets played by who. Counterfeiting records is wrong on lots of levels. Dancers and punters travel to hear records that they wouldn't normally be able hear anywhere else. Anyway, as I said I'd be here all night trying to explain. You're entitled to your views mate - I just don't agree.
  6. If you can't grasp that fundamental point mate I doubt that I would ever be able to explain it to you.
  7. But surely you're missing the whole point. It's a rare soul scene.
  8. So you're saying that certain dj's choose to play unpopular records. Not sure why any dj would build a collection of records that punters didn't like. They wouldn't get many bookings. As for boots are you saying that anyone should be able to play popular records from boots to keep the dance floor busy? I think you're missing quite a few points.
  9. I'm not sure that many people would admit to playing boots - even if they do. I suspect that lots of SS members know who does and who doesn't.
  10. So is the question about dj's playing boots or dj's playing for themselves or both? Plenty of threads on here about boots. There are two running at the moment.
  11. It's not as if this person isn't well known - they've been involved for years. I don't get his attempt to sound as if he doesn't know what he's doing. For example his silly definition of a counterfeit. It's theft at the end of the day.
  12. I knew I was pushing it with the pies! I've not had a decent pie for yonks. Steak and kidney would suit me real fine.
  13. Limited New "test presses" of old records. WTF is that all about? Is test press the new word for counterfeit?
  14. Give me your records and I'll teach you to knit.
  15. Have you told Mike? I'll report my own post just in case!
  16. No one had ever heard of Wigan before all the "bad shit" Brian!
  17. I think some do Julian. It's up to them and as you say they dont get a sale anyway. I just ignore those sorts of sellers and buy from people I know and trust.
  18. Nice Kev. Has a very 70's feel about it. Pete.
  19. Love the sweet vocals on that one Martyn.
  20. How do you know that? If you want to flag it to the mods then use the report function in the actual post and someone will look at it. You may want to review your own post to judge whether or not you think it's sufficiently polite.
  21. Nice one Gogger. Jerry Butler - surely so under rated. Great stuff. Pete
