Anita Baker's "No more tears" session which according to the lady herself as told to Richard Searling, was done on one take only - absolutely amazing. Also to understand the complexities of group harmony and how it all dovetails together, the sessions that produced the Platters "Smoke gets in your eyes" - perfection.
  2. £40 per JM's 4th edition for Bobby and Wallace.

Towanda Barnes - "You don't mean it", could never get to grips with that cardiac arrest beat!
  4. Paid £8 for Jimmey Soul Clark -" Sweet darlin' " on Soulhawk 1973 (possibly 1974) at the Mecca. Seem to recall I bought it off a DJ but can't remember who it was.Definitely not Levine.
  5. Sorry Trev, why does that make him a div? Are we saying that there can be no representation of Northern Soul at all, anywhere in the media, by anybody other than those that are the "sacred few". No wonder the scene is considered elitist.
  6. Movie is out on 11 May. Martin Freeman's a soul fan, isn't he? Maybe he suggested the sounds.

JM's 4th edition has it at £400. One went through e-bay in 2005 for $553
  8. Ron Holden "Born 7August 1939, Seattle, Washington, USA, d. 22 January 1997. Holden's career had a unique beginning: he had been arrested for driving with alcohol and marijuana in his possession and was in the police station when a police officer heard him singing. The officer, Larry Nelson, told Holden that he was planning on quitting the police department for a career in music and gave Holden his phone number. The teenager called Nelson upon his release from jail and Nelson recorded Holden singing his own composition "Love You So". The ballad was issued on Nelson's Nite Owl label and then sold to the larger Donna label, reaching the US Top 10 in the summer of 1960. An album was released on Donna but further singles on that and other labels did not recapture the flavour of the hit and Holden retired from the music business." Is this the guy?

  17. Dave, according to the 4th edition a '0 has been dropped, making it £150. Typo in the book or your post?
  18. I didn't miss it Pete, just keep them coming!
  19. According to info at www.seabear.sa the second "hit version" (presumably the faster version) pressing has master number 45-L13. Does this add anything to the debate?
  20. Jaco posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
That really is very good, definitely an authentique feel to the musicianship and production

Nobody's mentioned "Love has taken over me" - Herbert Hunter. Storming, crash, bang, wallop of an intro!
  22. JM 's latest has it at £40.
  23. This listing shows the final bid at $155,000 which turned out to be a bogus bid. When it was re-listed it achieved $25,200.

With the current thread running about FW and the previous one about the most expensive 12 inch single, any details of the most expensive soul album?
  25. JM's 4th guide has it listed as "unconfirmed test press" for VIP 25031. This issue number is also for "Don't be too long/Do right baby, do right" by Chris Clark. Perhaps it should read VIP 25034 which is the issue for the Velvelettes "These things will keep me loving you" as apparantly the two records were scheduled to be released on the same number. Info from www.seabear.se.
