Teaching People To Dance Wtf?
I wonder if Gok Wan could do a 'Teach people how to Dress' night?......

Poll: Bbc Culture Show - Northern Soul - Your Take ?
It's interesting that it's always refered to as 'The Nostalgia Scene', yet I don't ever remember people stood around the Casino in 40 year old clothes waiting for messers Winstanley and Searling to play the same 20 records every hour. Very often a track would go from unknown - to floorfiller - to pressing plant - to being dropped from the playlist, all in a few weeks...... shame they couldn't be a little more 'Nostalgic' for that side of the scene.

Poll: Bbc Culture Show - Northern Soul - Your Take ?
Shame some haven't got a Mum like that today, Pete!!...

Keep The Faith
Given some of our waistlines 'Eat The Cake' would be more apt!.

Poll: Bbc Culture Show - Northern Soul - Your Take ?
They've all pulled out, Winnie..... apparently someone shown them the costume department.

BBC2 Culture Show - Northern Soul Tonite Wed 25th Sept 2013
I wish it was the 70's again,....... could do with a power cut about now!.

A Bout Time They Let This Go
They didn't!.... Why on earth would they wan't to travel on public transport late on a saturday night to some strange Northern town, just to listen to obscure black American music?. Much easier just to go to the pub on the corner and get pissed listening to Status Quo on the Jukebox.....
-
A Bout Time They Let This Go
Does this mean we'll get a similar thread on the Next Stafford/Mecca/Torch/Wheel Anniversary?, or is it just reserved for venues where people wore comedy trousers?.

Another Early Wigan Live Tape
I'll bow to your superior knowledge (and memory) Pete. Those couple of tracks just remind me of my early days at Station Rd..

Another Early Wigan Live Tape
'If you ever walk out of my Life' and 'We go together'..... 1976?.

So Many Djs... Why?
"Why so many DJ's?"..... Easy!, you just need the following...... 1: Ebay. 2: A disposable income. 3: One of the many unused function rooms at your local working mens club. Add in an over inflated ego and Voila! - you've got an instant DJ.

Going Out Just Can Be Arsed With It Anymore To Many Do's On
With the odd exception, I've long since given up on the scene..... there REALLY are only so many times you can listen to Moses Smith.

The Thinking Man's Oldies (New Northern Soul Podcast)
Fantastic playlist again, Pete... Tracks like these remind of everything that's right with Northern Soul.... and the fact they're rarely played out reminds me of everything that wrong with it. Thanks for posting.

Last One For Now: Wigan Casino 21.5.1977
Another great recording Pete..... remember that night very well It's interesting that there isn't an unfamilier track to any of us, yet I've not heard the Lovelites, Florence Devore or even Popcorn Wylie played out in a long while which is a shame as they're infinately preferable to the usual Wigan oldies that make up your typical 'local soul' night......

Richard Searling Wigan Casino 7Th Anniversary Phenomenal
Awesome Pete..... If only some of those on todays scene would realise there was more to Station Rd than fooking Frank Wilson and The MVP's....
-
Sidney Barnes - Standing On Solid Ground
Proberbly because it's todays equivalent of Frank Wilson, ie an overplayed pop record for handbagger nights.....

Mary Love R I P
RIP Mary, and thanks for the Music......

Venues Too `sterile`?
The general idea (for the purpose of debate) is when you post comments like this is to say exactly 'why' you think it's "total bollox"?.....
-
Venues Too `sterile`?
Most people frankly couldn't give a flying fook about the atmosphere in a venue. As long as their mates are there, it's got a late bar, and all the DJ's have a copy of Ruby Andrews then they'll have a good night.

Mr M's Wigan
Slightly random but...... Why whenever there is a thread about Wigan people ALWAYS feel the need to add 'when it went crap' for them?..... Down the years on this forum I've read Wigan went crap in 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80 and 1981......... so that's only 2 years where the fooking place was any good, then!..
-
Mr M's Wigan
Dependant on what time the train got us into Wigan we used to do the early sessions before the main room opened - don't remember much about the layout though as it was always so fookin dark in there!!.

35 Years Ago! Searling Playlist Wigan 10/11 June 1978
Agreed..... Vicki Baines, Dee Dee Barnes, The Agents and even CW are all well known oldies, yet they may as well be rare and upfront to your average 'oldies' DJ....
