I wonder if Gok Wan could do a 'Teach people how to Dress' night?......

It's interesting that it's always refered to as 'The Nostalgia Scene', yet I don't ever remember people stood around the Casino in 40 year old clothes waiting for messers Winstanley and Searling to play the same 20 records every hour. Very often a track would go from unknown - to floorfiller - to pressing plant - to being dropped from the playlist, all in a few weeks...... shame they couldn't be a little more 'Nostalgic' for that side of the scene.

Shame some haven't got a Mum like that today, Pete!!...

Given some of our waistlines 'Eat The Cake' would be more apt!.

Does this mean we'll get a similar thread on the Next Stafford/Mecca/Torch/Wheel Anniversary?, or is it just reserved for venues where people wore comedy trousers?.

With the odd exception, I've long since given up on the scene..... there REALLY are only so many times you can listen to Moses Smith.

Fantastic playlist again, Pete... Tracks like these remind of everything that's right with Northern Soul.... and the fact they're rarely played out reminds me of everything that wrong with it. Thanks for posting.

Another great recording Pete..... remember that night very well It's interesting that there isn't an unfamilier track to any of us, yet I've not heard the Lovelites, Florence Devore or even Popcorn Wylie played out in a long while which is a shame as they're infinately preferable to the usual Wigan oldies that make up your typical 'local soul' night......

The general idea (for the purpose of debate) is when you post comments like this is to say exactly 'why' you think it's "total bollox"?.....

Most people frankly couldn't give a flying fook about the atmosphere in a venue. As long as their mates are there, it's got a late bar, and all the DJ's have a copy of Ruby Andrews then they'll have a good night.

Slightly random but...... Why whenever there is a thread about Wigan people ALWAYS feel the need to add 'when it went crap' for them?..... Down the years on this forum I've read Wigan went crap in 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80 and 1981......... so that's only 2 years where the fooking place was any good, then!..

Dependant on what time the train got us into Wigan we used to do the early sessions before the main room opened - don't remember much about the layout though as it was always so fookin dark in there!!.

Agreed..... Vicki Baines, Dee Dee Barnes, The Agents and even CW are all well known oldies, yet they may as well be rare and upfront to your average 'oldies' DJ....
