That`s the whole point of taking a 50-100 45 box to cover ya set for requests/records already played etc. That way you can go light on lp`s . I always take at least 3 sets worth in case you get an extra hour or cover for another dj. Weekenders are a whole different ball game. That`s when i try and get a lift lol. Sound man is on beer Tokens lol
-
Your a braver man then i for admiting to carvering your lp collection up.Personally i think it`s a waste of money, you could buy more good lp`s and double up your collection then get loads of grief when playing carvers.i always play/bring lp`s to gigs if i`m djing ,yes it`s hard graft carrying 2 boxes and your luggage if staying over. Ways round it if your not driving or being driven, use a record bag and just take 15 max. There not heavy to carry over your shoulder and for an hour set you only need 20 records to play out.So with your 45 box, your sorted. Re low recording then 45`s,not hard to turn gain/master/ or volume up . Then adjust back down for 45`s.Get a mate to stand at back of venue as your sound man ,job done. I`ve heard Timmion are the best for carvers but vinyl carvers in London are pretty good as well(so i`ve been told).Better order a tin hat while your at it lol

Ha ha very good Steve .Your be pleased to know i avoided all the tour de France yesterday ,most of the jobs were away from event . Looks like the Robert Tanner 45 was a mid 60`s recording going by Sir Rambling site(he`s usually bang spot on) so discogs is wrong . Will check out and ask mad lad .Thx for the help chaps
-
Not sure that info is correct,i did see that website ,that`s why i thought i`d put it out on here. Sweet Memories-Robert Tanner 45 was from 1970 who was one of the Singers in New Sounds so i would imagine it would be around `69` ,maybe 1970 before the 45. It was also done by New Sounds/Written by Dawson Smith band member. Didn`t a member interview one of the band a while back?Maybe someone could post up the interview .
-
Does anybody know/remember when these 2 lp`s were released? Self titled-Optimistics tu 7001. Self titled-The New Sounds Tu 7002. I know Lonnie Youngblood live lp is from 71 Tu 7003. Seems to be little info about on both these great lp`s.

Sunday 10Pm-Midnight On Starpoint Radio Bob Smith/wayne Arbon
Hammersoul replied to Hammersoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Me and Bob are back `live` tonight 10pm-midnight .Due to the sad loss of Bobby Womack,we will be doing a mini tribute of around 30 mins or so to some of his great music over the last 4 decades plus.I got a feeling this one might run over a bit. Also is a 90`s soul special tonight,so first 30 mins will be mid-uptempo . Last hour we go into them the more independent side of the 90`s.a lot was on cd but there be a few vinyl tracks in there as well. Last 30 mins we go Down-tempo, deep, 2 step .You can still have the tv on mute watching world cup .Personally watching Greece is like watching paint dry lol .Hopefully you can join us and keep us up to date with score. https://www.starpointradio.com/ -
Good news is my mate `forgot ` to post it back about 4 years ago to Records by mail.Plonker forgot to tell me so i looked a right idiot trying to get my money back/credit. In the end i lost the will to bother looking for another copy(Sorry Jeff) Just checked with my mate and it`s basically been mis labelled onto the Bill Merriweather 45 which i `ve already got with correct labels. So if anyone wants an odd / wrongly labeled 45 for a £10,it`s yours. It`s also got the good b-side: no stronger love.
-
i had one off Records by mail a while back with same problem.i returned it and forgot to make a note of artist and never did pick up Percy and Them lol.Must look for another copy.
-
Thx for input chaps . Sounds like a confusing/tricky one to work out lol. Never knew it was on a lp Micky as well,i like the other track you mentioned .
-
If you get no joy, have you tried contacting the label owner?
-
I have 2 copies of this(not for sale sorry),the Purple 45 with Beach on flip is best mix/ist press /the one to own .Sweet version more xover style. The 12" is more modern and i prefer that for radio only hence why i keeping both. The Red was faster/funky and was a boot/reissue if you go by Artist`s comments.Good luck with your search.
-
I have an orginal u.s lp for sale Daz if that`s the format your after.

I used to be a big buyer on ebay international (not uk) ,i even used to buy off Vince on a regular basis . While there are still bargains to be had,it`s too much hassle now with high postage/Customs fees etc. Plus in the old days you could build up orders on ebay, now you get hassled(not from the seller) to pay for them next day even if you told seller your doing an order. I`ve got my contacts on there and i ask they pull it so i can build an order over a few month to offset against the postage. Buying cheap £5/10/15 even £20 45`s now ain`t worth it anymore from overseas with $11-15 postage. Eve worst with lp`s at $19 a pop, most times the postage is more or double what the lp is. I use Discogs now, sellers are better at gradings and it`s s more user friendly. I`ve even bumped into a few Soul Source members on there lol. I still use the sales on this forum but last few months it`s crazy trying to keep up anymore. In fact i would say there`s more people selling then buying now with the age group, lot of people are due to retire etc in next 5-10 years. Also wages don`t stretch to what it did 10-15 years ago so less income about. Other problem is so called hard to find/rare records are now turning up every week so now people are `wiseing up` a bit and holding back for the bargains/better priced items. The cheapies/easy to find,it`s even easier to be patient,i`ve been doing really well in this market.Plus i get so many emails /lists etc,i can`t keep up and hear any i don`t know or look for the more unknown tracks. It`s too time consuming ,i would`t go to work or sleep if i tried to do every email. So now i try to select the best if poss and delete the rest. Vince: get on discogs ,your do well on there, let me know what your id is .Re the Smoke 45,reason that might not sell now is cos it`s on the lp with i`m so glad you came along which for me is the killer /far better track plus there`s others. Downside is you have to pay a bit more then £15 .

Sunday 10Pm-Midnight On Starpoint Radio Bob Smith/wayne Arbon
Hammersoul replied to Hammersoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Tonight `live ` on Starpoint between 10-Midnight,me and Bob Smith welcome Olindo Di Tizio from Italy as our special guest.Olindo will be spinning modern/2 step/connoisseurs from the late 70`s/80`S.Last year he played some killer tracks ...and was given a `lock in ` Status .We also have the new Prince Phillip Mitchell 45 which will be released in early June.We gonna spin both sides of that for those of you that are not paying attention lol. Hopefully you can join us in the chatroom for more banter and top music. https://www.starpointradio.com/listen.html Really sorry not for not having the time to post up playlists/podcasts since 14 April. Been really busy but you can catch them on mine or Bob`s (try uptight records facebook page) facebook wall . Or podomatic(see links above). -
Terrible idea Nev . I could see a lot of friends falling out over this. Personally i would`t lend any of my records out and would`t ask to borrow one either. If someone`s got better record/s then you, either book them or get your promoter to do it. Looks like this idea is on the back burner Nev

How Do We Get Young Djs Spots St Events?
Hammersoul replied to Put herald's topic in All About the SOUL
Personally i think the scene is very healthy at the moment with the great selection of old, young and no so young dj`s/collectors playing great/across the board Black music from all years. Re booking young dj`s,i have no problem with that and we have booked a few over the years at Filthy Soul, one guy that stands out is Neil Birnie.Neil plays at his own events and also played at Majestic and Carib soul. For me it`s not a an issue,be if your old or young, the key is can they bring something new to what we already have or keep to the ethos of what we believe in,having fun,no politics,O.v.o. etc. There`s a few more(some not mentioned yet ) who i know have great collections/Good ear who i will book next year or in near future. I do feel that you still have to do your collecting apprenticeship of say 8 years before you can really start to play out.I know when i first started collecting,it took me a good 10 years before i would have even thought of playing out.Bear in mind i was like a hoover when it came to vinyl, buying like a madman and i didn`t have it all.I`m sure some of the young ones might have found better/more records before that time limit but that`s just my view. I feel the European scene at the moment is very vibrant and young with no hang ups and having been to Bilbao and Stockholm weekenders, both were musically superb with the mid 20`s- to maybe early 40`s guys playing some great sets .Tha`s not to say we don`t have our own young guns cutting the mustard here in the uk. I just feel it`s harder for them cos a lot of the soul scene are in there late 40`s-60`s, are musically stuck in a time warp. Also last thought, let`s not dimiss the mid 30`s-40 something collectors who been buying away who have now been asked to guest at local/smaller events and who for me play much more interesting records then the `big boys`.This just my thoughts .
