Marcell and the Truth, great shout! Another quality contemporary act which is recommended is Kindred the Family Soul, you have any of their output? Best, Melismo
  3. As far as I know he´s stayed faithful to Motown all the time, not recording for any other label. He did however record (for Motown) under the name of Eivets Rednow (his name spelt backwards) an album of instrumentals. This was his "secret" album...lol... Also of course he has guested on other people´s albums, duetting, co-writing, producing etc, sometimes outside of Motown.

  9. Great mix from Tommy, quality from start to finish, thanks for posting Mike, my top fave must be the Danny Hunt, since his vocal style reminds me so much of early Stevie Wonder Cheers, Melismo
  10. Today I posted the two discs for the bonus late addition swappers, Malcolm and Alan. Do they have OUR addresses as well and do they know that they are now officially part of the swap? Have my CDs arrived yet, folks? Have received two confirmations so far. Thanks for all the CDs I have received so far, looking forward to the ones that will arrive within the next week or so. Cheers, Melismo (Mats)
  11. Cheers mate! Yes, my real name is Mats, but in soul music circles I am known as Melismo. Right now listening to Ismael Garcias´s CD, which arrived the other day, quality from start to finish. Best, M
  12. Cheers mate! Just received the addresses for the two bonus swappers so will send out CDs 22-23 sometime next week.
  13. Have posted the 21 CDs today, going off in different directions: England, Scotland, Finland, Sweden and Spain. Would appreciate some sort of confirmation later to verify that the discs have all arrived safely. I like to have some sort of theme for the CDs I make, and this time I have opted for "blue-eyed soul". And don´t worry, or rather: listen without prejudice, most or all of these artists sound really "black"...LOL... Quite simply this is a collection of some my most treasured blue-eyed soul favourites, hope you enjoy folks Regards, Melismo
  14. Talking of (former) communist states in Eastern Europe, I was in Poland about 10 years ago, visited several shops, big and small ones, selling used vinyl, but didn´t find a single soul record anywhere! Soul music never really caught on in those countries I believe? Americanisms were shunned at all levels presumably.
  15. It is kind of ironic that Motown was (at least in the beginning) more or less a black-only company and still their music sounded very "white", whereas Stax Records were white-dominated but gave us music that was very "black"-sounding. I love the violin. In the 70´s and 80´s there were a number of commercially viable soul violinists - like Michael White, Charles Veal, Noel Pointer, and Michael Urbaniak. In mainstream modern jazz John Blake is an important name. More recenty hip-hop-violinists have begun to crop up. Here is a prime example, duo Nuttinbutstringz: https://www.nuttinbutstringz.com https://www.myspace.com/nuttinbutstringzmusic https://www.amazon.com/Struggle-Subway-Charts-Nuttin-Stringz/dp/B000HKDE7Y/ref=sr_11_1/104-8699175-4748744?ie=UTF8 Stringing me along... /Melismo
  16. Hi Bob! Enjoyed the show as always. Some of my personal favourites this time were: Intrigues - In a moment Liberation - Take my best shot Jimmy Morris - We could work it out Counts - What's it all about Dynamic Upsetters - I want a man to shag with me New Emage - Either you will or you won't The Long Night - Who can I turn to Quickest Way Out - I don't want to lose your love ... and the final track which wasn´t playlisted, think it was by the Five Stairsteps. Regards, Melismo
  17. Hi Barry! Brilliant show! My top picks: Latimore - Around the World Wreckin' Crew - Seasons Willie Banks & The Messengers - God's Calling For The Liars Lou Wilson & Today's People - Settle Down Quintus McCormick Blues Band - There Ain't No Right Way To Do Wrong Roscoe Robinson - In Time You'll See Barbara Perry - Unlovable Bogard Brothers - One More Time Lovells - Pretending Dear Teddy Pendergrass - It Don't Hurt Now Regards Melismo

A rare album from 1967 on the Love label. Music contained therein is northern soul as well as beautiful falsetto balladry, Ron Tyson of Temptations fame involved with singing, producing and songwriting for the group. Price of the album, well, seen it listed for around 120 Euros also seen it go for considerably less and sometimes even more than the aforementioned sum, maybe someone else is better suited for nailing down the current going rate. Here´s the bio of the group, taken from the AMG All Music Guide: Formed in 1967 in Philadelphia by Ron Tyson, Joe Freeman, Carl Enlow, and Andrew Collins, the Ethics combined Motown-styled songs with sweeping string and horn arrangements in a nascent version of what would come to be known as the Philly sound. Led by Tyson's considerable songwriting skills and Eddie Kendricks-like tenor, the group recorded for independent labels Wale, Kent, and Golden Fleece, turning out songs like "Standing in the Darkness" and "I Want My Baby Back" that certainly deserved a wider audience than they received. Working with Vince Montana's rhythms and Thom Bell's sophisticated horn and string arrangements, the Ethics were truthfully just a little ahead of their time. The Ethics had split by the time the 1970s dawned, and they watched from the sidelines while newer Northern soul groups like the O'Jays followed the same template to massive success. Tyson later joined the reconstituted Temptations put together by Otis Williams. Hope this helps Best, Melismo
  19. Hi Sebastian! As we all know your taste is flawless, so once again you´ve treated us to a wonderful mix The following are my personal favourites: Jack Sass Band - Where Is The Love (You Promised Me) Kool Blues - Can We Try Love Again Bobby Finch - Get A Hold Of Yourself Jeff Floyd - Don't Leave Me Chain Reaction - Search For Tomorrow Elegant's - Show Me Casual T - All Out Of Breath I have the Phillip & Lloyd album, can´t say that I am too fond of the album, but the track you played is actually a very nice dancer. Talking of LPs, the L.A.X. LPs are really nice too, even if some of the tracks are very long, extended playing time as was the case with lots of disco music at the time, great male and female vocals on the L.A.X. project. Unfortunately it seems like the brilliant male vocalist didn´t record much else apart from the L.A.X. tunes?! Casual T - that was the group made out of GP doctors, right? Tack Sebbe! Melismo
  20. Since the band members are reading this thread, I´d like to take the opportunity to say thank you for the music you have given us, massive respect, I love your recorded work guys! And yes it´s true as have been mentioned above, there are a few different soul groups that have opted for the name Spice, just as there are numerous groups that have called themselves Slick etc. etc. This is a recurring "problem" throughout the history of popular music, there´s always a great risk that the name you chose for your group has already been used by someone else somewhere else...lol... Regards. Melismo (Sweden)
  21. Very interesting to see those, eye-candy for a Motown enthusiast. The missus hails from former Yugoslavia and I have asked her if she can recommend any Yugoslavian soul music, but so far she hasn´t been able to help me. However, at international record fairs I have been directed towards for instance some great Polish and Bulgarian soul acts from the 60´s and 70´s whose records are now in my collection! Sometimes it pays off to dig a bit deeper, some very nice soul music came out of other places than America. Sorry for slightly diverting from the original topic.
  22. Tammi I say without hesitation - and that would also have been Marvin´s own choice. Marvin was hopelessly in love with Tammi (he wanted to have a relationship, but she was the one who turned his invitations down) and of course he was devastated when she passed. it affected him deeply.
  23. I am soon done, have written addresses on the 21 envelopes, didn´t know there were more swappers involved. if the official number is now 23 (hasn´t been confirmed yet I think), that´s no problem for me, just need to have those addresses please. I´ll await confirmation from Cliff who initiated the CD-swap or Pms from the two bonus swappers
  24. Hi Bob! Excellent show again! My picks: Neptunes - Girl that's an awful thing to say Globelites - I've got to find me a love Vibrations - Remember the rain Bill Avery and Love Co - Hey Girl Donnie, Fonnie, and Lavorn - A woman who'll let you be a man Billy Butler and Infinity - I don't want to lose you Billy Butler and Infinity - Hung up on you Gregory Havrilak - Proud Woman Table of Contents - Wrapped around your finger Lucky Jamal Davis - Love is better (than ever) Bunny Davis - Six Million Dollar Man Electra Fyd Revue - Emptiness Spectrum - Let's fall in love Barrons - I'm so lonely Regards, Melismo
  25. I have so far received five discs from four different people: Lars, Brett, Gary, and the two CDs from Robert (SOULWV10), yes, Robert sent out two discs, a wonderful bonus. Enjoying these discs, I have listened to all five of them already, couldn´t wait, and I am glad to say that they were all top notch, you´ve set the standards very high gents My CDs won´t be ready until the end of the month, but within the timeframe that has been set, unless something very unexpected happens, like me falling from a cliff breaking legs and arms or something similar. It will take some time to select the tracks, burn the CDs, compile tracklist, put addresses and stamps on the envelopes etc. Will let you know when they´re done and/or has actually been sent out - and everytime a new parcel drops on my doormat I will let you know in this thread as to confirm that they´ve arrived safely and also post some comments on the actual tracks if I can find the time. Once again thanks for the CDs I have received so far! Cheers, Melismo
