Carol Jones - Don't Destroy Me - Mutt
labels on strings version are the same as on the 27320 release, but runout groove of one of them (drrrrrrr, can't remember which) has 27320A-X and 27320B-X instead of just 27320A and 27320B. "Problem Child" side is different on all three, two. i think the one on the flip of the strings version is blisteringly fast--almost sounds like they ran the tape at the wrong speed. there's also the original version of "problem child" by scotty bray on true-soul, a very nice record. eagerly awaiting documentation of the alleged alternate versions of majjestees, little leon, and milton harris.

Carol Jones - Don't Destroy Me
really?!? i thought i knew all the mutt releases....must have had 20 or so milton harrises but never noticed that any were different. how do they differ? only had one majjestees so wouldn't know....but there are actually THREE different carol jones versions: the two you're talking about and the striped-label one, which has two more takes.

Eddie Rey "i've Got Something Of Value" Vs. Z.z. Hill "don't Make Promises You Can't Keep"
for price difference there's also the fabulous apollos on valtone vs. the andre williams on ric-tic, but in that case the expensive one is the better record, i'd say.

Eddie Rey "i've Got Something Of Value" Vs. Z.z. Hill "don't Make Promises You Can't Keep"
are there any other pairs of records with the same backing track where the arguably better one (better lead vocal, at any rate) sells for such a tiny fraction of the price of the other one?

Tommy Dent On Cobblestone
curious about just how rare this is....i know of three copies, all in new york. i think y'all might like the northernish flip, too....

fantastic, fantastic record...both sides! i played one side on the radio here: https://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/22259 it comes on about 34:20. much better than the fame single, imo. must say it's one of my all-time favorites. good luck with the search.

The Matta Baby

Clarence Reid "you Knock Me Out" Alston
some of reid's alston 45s never got distributed outside of florida apparently. alston had some kind of distribution deal with atlantic, but there are certain 45s that didn't get atlantic distribution as far as i can tell, perhaps because they came before or after the atlantic deal? two other reid alston 45s that just don't turn up: "gotta take it home to mother"/"you get your kicks" "miss hot stuff"/"mr. hot stuff" in fact, looking at the alston discography at https://tinyurl.com/2fmqo2 i see several more unfamiliar reid alston titles: "you got to fight"/"three is a crowd" "come on with it"/"mr. smith's wife" "shake your butt"/"caution love ahead" "just another guy in the band"/"i'm excited" "you get me up"/"it's hell trying to get to heaven" anyone heard these???

Finishing Price Of New Yorkers On E-bay
what's the deal with label variations on this? got mine ten years ago in u.s., and label is light blue but a simpler design, no football player, tac-ful straight across the top.

Anyone Know
you tell me. i know nothing about this record. i've had it for years and have no idea where i got it. flip is called "go on and leave me." cliff chambers/zeke strong/james carmichael...

Anyone Know
"What're You Doing to Me?"...Beautiful midtempo sixties soul. Can anyone tell me anything about it? What's the story with the apparent gender confusion in the credit? I will most likely play it on the radio tonight...if you don't know it, you should. (Downtown Soulville, www.wfmu.org, 7-8 p.m. New York time...)

Run Run Roadrunner Jerry Williams
mine's surely jamaican, on red-and-white calla but with a dodgy, bumpy, falling-off paper label.
-
Rubaiyats On Sansu
saw that and considered it overpriced for the condition it's in; hence my query. thanks, thorsten. you're not selling?
-
Rubaiyats On Sansu
to clarify, i want the rubaiyats on u.s. sansu, not u.k. action. what's a fair price for this, £25-35?

Mr. Blue Brad Hales
he's a close friend of mine and still slow to respond to my emails despite that....but he's one of the finest people you're going to meet in the soul world, honest as they come.
